that smell is crazy!!! i remember in highschool we had a darkroom and the smell was so strong one girl passed out while inside.

A few photos I've taken, no filter, just mild adjustments. Need to find my portable HD power cable to find a ton more beauties.

Canon 5D MK2, 50mm lens, 1.4f

Low quality JPGs, need to see if I have the original RAW files somewhere.

Really? we had one too, I took photography for a couple years, I dont remember the smell at all tbh. It was a long time ago now though so maybe i've just wiped it from my memory.

I miss taking my camera out. Much like most people who enjoy it but never got serious, it just feels like the phones are close to doing what I could with a camera 99% of the time.
But those shots where you nail it, a phone can't come close. It's such a great feeling, and the part I liked most about it was it's just an excuse to go somewhere.

Definitely does feel like that until you break out the DSLR and shoot in raw...

But you need a big, high-resolution screen to really see all the incredible detail. I can't even imagine what a cutting-edge camera can do, especially viewed on something like a 70" 8k screen.

I think a ton depends on skill too. Like some of the best shots I've taken where I've actually post processed and shit I can see a difference a lot, but those aren't the norm for me. I understand aperature and shutter speed and such well, but I think my composition often sucks, so there's lots I take where I'm just like, oh. That's it?
Those shots above you took are rad as they have a consistent feel to them. I feel like I haven't got that in my shots yet. Like I don't have a style really.
I have a Nikon d2500 and a couple lenses. The equipment is good enough but the operator needs work. That said I know I just need to go shoot again. It's always fun, but time is tight, and feels like it's a little bit down the list of hobby priorities.

Blood moon tonight. I’m already fighting to stay awake…. Drinking coffee and hoping I don’t fall asleep. It’s cloudy right now but even then it’s still quite gorgeous

Photography and writing are similar in a sense; technical skill gives you a master key, practice and innate talent gives you a ladder to an open window, but soul kicks in the front door and burns the house down.

I once got half into photography before realizing I have absolutely no eye for composition which made the rest of it kind of feel like a waste of time. Very rarely I'll luck into a decent photo where I think it would've been neat to have shot it with proper equipment but they're so few and far between it's not worth it lol.

Skinny wins it for sure.

NVM is a close second. Those are so amazing it looks like that famous YouTuber Simon d’treamont.
Wowowoowo talented !! Wildlife photography is the most expensive genre.

I don't know my birds, but is that a golden eagle?

nope. juvenile baldy. I was at New Brighton Park and this guy starts flipping small stones and sticks along the small tidal beach and starts catching these shrimp/prawn critters. barely 20 meters away, probably too young to know better.

there's a few resident harbour eagles that have learned how to catch sea food, which most eagles would have no idea

Badhobz 03-14-2025 11:22 AM

^ you must have a batshit crazy expensive lens!

that thing is sharp enough to sell at cut-co

Jason00S2000 03-14-2025 11:57 AM

Yeah... what lens / camera / settings?

N.V.M. 03-14-2025 02:57 PM

it's an R5 with the original 500mm f4 Canon lens. the trick is to bring enough whiskey to make sense of why you're standing knee deep in a pond at 5:30 am waiting for the sun to come up.
