It’s not the size that counts !!! It’s…..uhhhh…. in this case it really is the size that counts.

Looks like we have a resident birder here. I saw this bird in my backyard - what is it?

^ there are apps that identifies birds, birders can vouch whether they are any good. I understand there are a few out there.

I ran it through and I'm getting 'generic small bird with orange forehead'.

Badhobz 05-05-2025 04:05 PM

I believe that’s an orange head trash pecker. I’m an expert on birds.

spoon.ek9 05-05-2025 07:36 PM

Google AI says "...likely a Pine Grosbeak (Pinicola enucleator). It is a large finch found in coniferous forests, particularly in northern regions"

radeonboy 05-05-2025 07:56 PM

ChatGPT gave me "White-crowned Sparrow" when I asked before posting here, but I ran it again just now and it said "House Finch" which sounds incredibly generic :lol

I have a couple times, I've got one of the lens cleaning tools with a retractable brush, used it to loosen anything that didn't move with just air, then blew it out. If you are seeing dust in your viewfinder check the focusing screen, right above the mirror, I had more settle there than the actual mirror

N.V.M. 05-06-2025 03:02 AM

its a House Finch.

Badhobz 05-10-2025 08:00 AM

My best ones yet!!! thanks for the tips on the sensor cleaning. really glad I did that! no more spots.

How do you always come across so many coyotes?

Badhobz 05-10-2025 04:27 PM

I don’t know.. I’m just naturally good with wild animals I guess. forest puppies seem to love me (or maybe they are just trying to eat me cuz I’m fat and always smell like LA chicken)

spoon.ek9 05-10-2025 04:47 PM

the only time I ever saw coyotes was super early in the morning when less humans are out and about. other than that, perhaps at the dyke occasionally. so it would make sense since hobz is an old fart waking up naturally around 5:30am to grumble while taking photos on his own.

N.V.M. 05-10-2025 05:38 PM

I seem to have a lot of luck with trash pandas.

CUTE!!! me wanna shoot one too, but can never find them in their natural habitat. only in Stanley Park running around the zoo, or around my garbage can... i guess that is their natural habitat now.

spoon.ek9 05-10-2025 07:07 PM

One time I came home late with a bag of McNuggets. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I saw two raccoons standing behind a tree looking at me lol. They could probably smell em!

CivicBlues 05-21-2025 01:20 PM

Just back from Ireland. Great countr(ies)...nice scenery, good food if a bit repetitive, chill laid back vibe, not a lot of wild animals/birds to shoot but sure as hell a lot of livestock and domesticated animals. Possibly the whitest country I've been in outside of Eastern Europe. All the tourists are white too. Yeah, and even all their animals too.

Ireland’s food is a huge step up from England imo. Which isn’t saying much but it’s actually generally palatable lol

You do a day trip from Belfast to Giants causeway?

CivicBlues 05-21-2025 03:42 PM

Yeah we had a car, stayed in Belfast and drove up for the day. Shocking how much Belfast actually looks like England...I mean technically they're the same country I guess but still was surprised how many curry shops there were. We had curry in a pub with no Indian people, it was decent and cheap - restaurant food was so goddamn expensive there and we ate out 95% of the time. We're so spoiled here at home for choice/value I can't bring myself to complain anymore.

Badhobz 05-21-2025 03:43 PM

WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THAT!!!!

how were dem sexy Irish women!?!?! :fullofwin:

When we went to Ireland in 2018 Belfast was more expensive than London for most things.

Vancouver alone has more quality options than Europe combined imo.

CivicBlues 05-21-2025 03:56 PM

Dat accent...dem Irish eyes...lotta blondes..Pretty good, pretty pretty pretty good...:fullofwin:

Felt like a dirty old man though, so many JB. It was like 15-20 degree highs with sunny weather the whole time the LGs were wearing the skankiest shorts and skirts like they were rebelling against their whole repressed Catholic lives.

On the flip side though, like much of Europe these days, everyone else is old as fuck. Everywhere we went to eat or drink it seemed like a sea of grey hairs. Seemed like the perfect place to go on a retirement trip.

unit 05-21-2025 05:14 PM

true thats what i remember abt england as well... even when its cold at night all the girls are wearing super short skirts. why havent we adopted that here i'll never know..

Badhobz 05-21-2025 05:18 PM

It’s the land of skanks!!! Would be heaven for a lecherous old man like me.

You didn't go clubbing on Granville St in the early 2000s? :D

Only thing about British girls they cake on their makeup so much it looks uncanny mannequin. Irish ones when they go out appear to favour a more natural look.
