I was gonna buy a drone to fly and chase down forest puppies out on the dyke but donk showed me the huge amount of no fly zones. They are quite significant! The only place you can fly a bird is at the tip of Gary’s point. Rest will automatically not let you take off.

I put it here hoping Badhobz can jump in, spend $5000 and then report what are the good ones to start on. | Depends on what you want to do.
If you are looking into FPV drones, you can either look into pre-built or custom everything. The scene is decently developed now, so, if you are familiar say putting a PC together, it's not whole lot different.
Of course, you can start with something like DJI FPV or Avatar. They are very well designed and would get most of the headache out. The Avatar kit is about $1500 IIRC and it's quite complete.
Oh, and you need to take the basic drone pilot exam for anything over 250g. It's not very hard. I downloaded the PDF, watched a few in-depth video and passed it in one go. More than anything is get you to know the basic rules in Canada that govern drone usage. Then you can continue onto advance and complex pilot licenses if you want to play into the big guns.
IMHO though, I suggest looking into a DJI Mini 3 Pro or Mini 4 Pro. They require no license other than you should be aware of no-fly zones. Get a used one, see how you like it and go from there. I've had friends who started something small and went onto having a small drone filming company and do anything from FPV to big rigs. But also have had many who bought the latest shit and just to have it on the shelf collecting dust.

Yah, I thought @Matsuda might be into it to add to the repertoire of his still car photography.
I did look at the DJI neo ... I like the idea that there is this mode where it can follow you on your activity. You can adjust the height at which it follows you and the distance. And you don't need a controller, you can do it all on your phone app. Damn ...
But yah, once I zero in on a model, def buy one used and see how I like it.

No way. The correct answer is to buy the 1k Costco drone kit. Use it for however long and then return it once you’re bored of it.

I have a Mini 3 Pro with the screen on the remote and it's more than capable for casual aerial shots.
I don't use mine much besides doing roof inspections and the occasional aerial shot in a remote area.

Are some quieter these days? They can get awesome shots but every time I've seen one the sound is very grating.

I think Hehe is wondering why the drone is so close that the noise is that audible?
Once past 15-20 feet you can't hear my Mini 3 Pro IMO.

The blinking lights will probably tell on you much further out than the noise IMO

A larger rig... maybe. But FPV or DJI mini?! Impossible once they are 150ft+ because if you could hear it, you must be going nuts all the times because all the noise around/near you would be driving you crazy.

Can those dinky little things fly that high? I used to see them occasionally in the area, I would hear a drone and look around and eventually see a tiny black dot.
My depth perception is poor, so can't really tell how far or how big it is.

Although sometimes I question the legality of it. At 300ft, it's nearly impossible to see the damn thing. And somehow we are legally required to keep VLOS (Visual Line Of Sight).

This our ice racing track at max height - I was at 120m and it wouldn't let me go up higher.
