geez.. now i gotta find something to keep up with you! hahaa

Haha, your Meister's have convinced me to go wider! I am thinking of getting identical tire sizes as you for both my 9.5 and 10.5" wheels.

trollguy

you should! the RSR runs a bit wide, and as you can tell (maybe? i still havent got a good pic) a 255/35 stretches nicely on a 10.5 :)

a friend of mine has 245 on his 9.5 and it stretches nicely :)

Prices differ so much compare to locally...paid $8.99 usd for 1.89L meguiars gold wash compare to $19.99 cdn tire, eagles wax/spray under $5 usd compare to $8-9 cdn, mothers clay bar package at $18.99 usd compare to $29.99 cdn tire, mothers carnuba wash $8 usd compare to $15-18cdn, meguiars tire shine was under $6usd compare to $12 cdn tire.

Few things I couldnt find like 303 aerospace, simply green glass cleaner, autoglym wheel cleaner, showtime spray and some other stuff...

And got this in the mail few weeks ago...product made in germany...

Time to start cleaning...2 Hondas, 3 Toyotas, 1 Lexus...

Good to hear. I'm putting good cash money into a set thats all prebuilt and ready to hook up by a guy who's pretty well known on the bmw forums. I didn't think I'd be dropping mod money on headlights so soon, but 90s euro cars in my experience have birthday candles for NA spec headlights.

How come you went PS2 instead of PSS?

The Alpina comes stock with PS2's which are the correct factory specs, PSS's don't come in the correct sizing.

And I don't drive my car during the winter so it's all good.

well that's not very nice.

To be honest I have been looking into doing a projector housing conversion, my issue right now is finding a substitute for the factory glass on the housing. I also don't drive much at night time, I only run my corner lights during the day.

I've been thinking maybe E30 Projector housings may fit my car. We'll see, need to do some more research.

I want to order this stuff not even because its probably awesome, but because Larry seems like a pretty genuine guy, and his videos have taught even myself some amazing things...

His videos are great and his customer service even greater. You can actually e-mail him and ask him anything and everything about detailing.

And if you're looking to order I would highly recommend ordering SKIN. I've added two layers to my car and the depth and gloss on my car is epic. One other thing I would recommend is having the products shipped to a mailbox across the border, you save quite a bit in shipping.

I don't know exactly what the product he used is, but N-motion (an RS sponsor) sells Oracle tinting film, it is made specifically for reflector and taillight applications. They have it in two different darkness'.

Oracle looks great and it really doesn't affect the output or reflectivity of the surfaces you use it on (which is really impressive). But under regular light it really darkens everything up and makes it look way better.

Ordered some vinyl to tint my rears;

Left tail is tinted.

Looks sick man, car should have come like that instead of that pink looking colour it had stock. Did you end up DIY'ing it?

Are you going to do the two little reflectors as well?

Beautiful colour by the way. Thats a really nice car...

Not sure what brand because I haven't received the tint. I ordered the tint from the guy below, he's on the BMW forums. Honestly it's the best tint I've seen for the rear lights, it's not too dark and looks OEM.

Thanks meme405. I agree, the tails are way too red but the 2013/2014 7 Series now has tinted rears. I'm actually going to have it wrapped professionally because I want it clean as possible and install isn't going to be too much. I might get the little reflectors done as well if I have left over material.

Let us (me) know if cops give you a hard time. Doesn't look like they will but given their failure to prioritize traffic violations of importance, I'm curious to know if they'll leave you alone.

I don't think anyone will give you grief over it, unless you go extremely dark.

I have it over my two rear reflectors and my third brake light and no problems. I even got pulled over for the tint for my two front windows, and they didn't say anythings about the lights when they did a walk around of the car.

It's not dark enough for a cop to hassle you, if you go darker than you risk getting pulled over.

And funny you mention cops, I got pulled last night before Cambie St bridge for having front tints even though my tint is very light. The cop who pulled me over was super cool and his exact words were "just be careful of traffic cops, they're dicks" lol. He also said he liked the front tint because it made the car look nicer and it should be legal for nice cars so it really depends on the cop.

Hate to say it but :bullshit:. I HIGHLY doubt a cop would tell you other cops are dicks, and the laws he's sworn to uphold should be changed...

Oh, and i guess if it's only legal for nice cars, you couldn't tint your tails then, could you? Only Lamborghni's, Ferrari's, Bentley's, etc right? Oh that's right, everyone's definition of "nice" is different. I think my car is nice, but because it's not worth nearly as much as either of your cars, i shouldn't be allowed to tint my tails, but you should? What about someone who has a classic car? Can they not tint their tails because it's not as nice as your car?

It should be legal for nice cars? Lol.

Go ahead try to define a nice car, thats why they made it illegal across the board. Not saying it should be illegal, but I can see why they aren't going to start making exceptions...

My tint was very light as well on my car, actually it wasn't tint at all, it was just coloured film to make my front windows have that mercedes blue hue. I bitched a little cause I had to spend like 2 hours pulling off the tints and getting the glue off and my car looked almost exactly the same. The visibility into the car was identical, but w/e I knew it was illegal and the cop found it So I pulled it off went and showed them, and all was good. There was no fine associated with my ticket, I just had to fix the issue and show it to any detachment.

Agreed. Based on his logic I think my car is awesome so I'll just limo tint my taillights and it'll be all good.

It's not obvious by the amount of light in the pic? Reverse lights are not designed to aid in vision but are safety device, used to indicate a motorists intent (such as a turning signal). On dark streets, especially in the rain, having brighter lights when parking makes things a heck of a lot easier.

Your post is confusing, first you say they're not supposed to aid in vision, but then you say you use them to help you park. While these HID's might make it a bit easier to park if you're too blind to use the regular reverse lights + brake lights to see, you've now just blinded everyone behind you like an asshole.

TL;DR - You're an asshole.

Not saying I agree with HID reverse lights, but I think he meant that regular reverse lights are dim, and only meant to signal your intention to other motorists or pedestrians. Brighter HID reverse lights therefore, would greatly aid in vision when backing up in dark areas.

I am doing an HID reverse light upgrade on my car as well. Helps enormously with the backup camera, especially since I park pretty tight so I want to be able to see the camera easily at night as well.

I am wiring mine into the switch for my windshield wiper (I deleted the actual wiper), first speed setting turns both lights on, 2nd speed setting is going to make them "strobe" (flash at an interval, I will see how fast I can get it to be with HID's, before I destroy a bulb or ballast).

Tailgaters will be banished from my rear bumper!! :fullofwin:

^Two concerns:

1: Flashing HID's is a bad idea, as the consecutive bursts of large current draw will fuck something up. HID's use less power than normal bulbs, but they require more to ignite...be careful.

2: Lighting up reverse HID's, while it may be very useful to ward off tailgaters, carries huge risk because at some point, there will be a police officer somewhere behind you, and you will have a terrible headache soon thereafter lol

High voltage and low current draw.

It will probably mean the ballast will die quickly, not to mention if anything bad happens it won't damage the fuse but something upstream. I am not sure where you park, but it takes a while for the HID to warm up to full brightness.

It situations like the latest generation of LED especially COBs would be better.

1. I know there is a ton of negatives to this, and it won't work well most likely. Just a thought I had as to how far I can push it.

2. Electrical malfunctions can really be a hassle...:troll:

Gonna have a look at some new LED's maybe even the Triton V3's or something like that. If there are other options that can get near the same brightness and bi-pass some of the huge pitfalls of the HID's I will take them into consideration. The warm up of the reverse specific HID's is something I have been curious about, I was hoping that they just warm up super quick.

For LED lights, cooling is most crucial for maximum brightness. Any LED bulb no matter the chipset will not be bright if there is not decent heatsink connected to the chip especially the NP junction.

I have yet to see a "plug in" LED replacement that has a decent cooling design. The problem is once the heat reach the heat sink, most reverse light compartment is way to small and there is no where for the heat to go.

There are a lot of science in LED headlight design, there are cooling air current that pull heat away etc.

Before I saw the HID reverse lights, I thought my cree 7w LED reverse lights are crazy enough...lol can't wait until someone install projectors there

I agree, also all that flaming was uncalled for and flat out rude. We all make threads of every stupid thing that comes into our head yet this member is trying to do something different, she makes a vlog on her modding her car. Instead of flaming her or calling her an attention whore, why not critique her on her video, give her tips on how to make it better, where she can improve. She's putting herself out there with these videos, and it is a difficult thing to do for a girl in a male dominated community. Yeah we all know this thread exists and a couple others similar to it about recent mods, BUT is it costing YOU anything that this member made a new thread? and it's not even like she does it often.

One last thing, at least her posts and videos are related to her car. This member is keeping her posts and videos relevant to what this site represents. It's not like she's walking around wearing scantily clad outfits in heels saying "oh look at me work on cars." I am sure if a male on this forum did the same thing, it would not get the same reception.

Tl;dr... play nice, especially to new members.

edit. My left headlight went out so bought CN brand replacement bulbs at 6000K.

not everyone is baller enough to buy a vorsteiner trunk, u compared buying a replica spoiler costing arnd $200 to a full trunk that costs $1500+, really?

besides, what is wrong with replica parts for looks if a) the quality is good and b) the price is right?

r u now gonna pull the "if u cant afford the parts, then u shouldnt have bought a bmw" card now?

And yet, Neither the 1500 trunk deck nor the 20 dollar spoiler do fuck all for the performance of a street car. Get off your high horse and go Troll elsewhere.

A more appropriate comparison :It's like saying someone cheaped out cause they didn't buy a brand name oil cap. At the end of the day as long as it seals the oil into the car who gives a fuck. Neither one is going to do anything more than that.

Completely different. Performance spoilers look good, fake vents don't. If it fits and looks perfect, why not?

Not everyone wants to replace their OEM body parts with aftermarket ones.

Why get stressed out over fitment, paint matching and all that crap when you can just buy a $150 spoiler off ebay that can be installed and uninstalled easily?

And you do realize you're comparing a $100-$150 carbon fiber spoiler with a $2500 carbon fiber trunk?

It is not that it is cheap, it is designed to attract people who think more is better. You might want to check to see how much voltage your alternator is giving during your car startup. A surge will kill LEDs just like that, if you want your bulb to last always have a voltage conditioner before the LED bulbs. LED are essentially chips, it doesn't take much to fry them. On the bright side, most people who retrofit LED into older cars will blow out the lights right away, rather than on the road with the horrible glare with HID retrofit.

Take a look at Luxeon bulbs they have 2 LEDs but with good cooling design and will be way brighter than the bulbs you got.

the more reliable bulbs are the one from Cree or those with single giant diode, they tend to have better material and brighter

If that's the case, then you would need to install an in line current limiting resistor. That should help protect against some surges.

Kits are plug and play, installing LED's is as easy as changing the dome light with any regular bulb. If you can get the plastic cover off the light that is really the hardest part of the entire job.

I saw that thread, didn't know that was your STB though.

It seems to be isolated to the 2nd generation FX's. Seems to me from what was posted it is a problem with poor manufacturing on the actual car from infiniti (the part of the fenderwell in the engine bay is not completely flat as it should be).
