Need to order tires soon as well. Between direzza dII, Sdrives, Falken fk453. Trying to decide if Direzzas are worth the extra 200+ dollars. Any insight?

Assuming by "Direzza" you're referring to the Dunlop Direzza DZ101? If so, don't waste your money... They're a budget summer tire. Not ehm three worthy imho. FK453's are a bit better, however i'd still put a better tire on your car. What size(s) are we talking?

02-12-2014, 06:25 PM
^No he's not, Direzza II is the replacement for the DZ101.

No personal experience with FK453, Direzza ZII or S.Drives but it depends if you're after shaving seconds off the track, drivability, etc. I'm looking to get Direzza ZII's myself (hopefully this summer) but from what I've read, they're a bit harsher on the road but have TONS of grip.

All I'm looking for is grip. Tread life doesn't matter, comfort matters even less, road noise? I drive a 15 year old car on coilovers. It sounds like a maraca anyways. DIIs are probably the best choice from what I've seen. I really was hoping to not have to spend 1200 bucks right away :okay: And I've had falken RT-615s which were awesome, and of course the 512/912s which were just TRASH. Never tried the fk452/53

215/45/17, 235/40. After taxes, mounting, all that shit its around that locally. Getting 700 bucks of tires from the states works out to be about that too after duties, taxes and the grossly inflated shipping across the border. They are going around 1000 from 1010 tires but thats without mount and balance.

No pss?
Too rich for my blood. At least for how minimally better they sound than the DIIs, also supposedly have softer sidewalls.

If all you're looking for is grip, (and as you said the 615's are amazing) go for them! $811 shipped to your door all duty, taxes etc etc payed for, and you don't have to go down and pick them up.

My last wheel / tire package purchase was through 1010. It was expensive, no doubt but still ended up on par with purchasing through the US plus they took care of me because they underestimated the size of G8 studs:fullofwin:.

Also, that's what I get for buying 19s :okay:

DII's are really grippy but there was a bit of road noise and wore kinda quicker. After harsh testing i thought they performed pretty well on roads. They were pretty good in the wet too. haven't tried the falkens so i can't give my opinion on that :P.

Pretty sure the Dunlop Z2 or ZII (aka Star Spec 2) is replacement for the Z1 Star Spec. The DZ101s are a budget high performance summer where as the Z1 and Z2's are ultra high performance summer tires.

Z1/Z2's are comparable to Hankook RS3, RT615k, Federal 595 RSR, BF Goodrich Rival

DZ101 is more along the lines of Hankook V12 Evo, and FK452, Yoko S Drives

Major differences in tires, the later are more street while the former are tailored towards track/auto-x that can still be driven on the street.

In terms of reviews right now, the Dunlop ZII, Michelin PS2 are very good performers in the dry. For the more budget oriented build, Nitto NT05 and the Hankook RS3 (if you can find them since theyre on a national back order) are very good as well. Just depends on budget and needs.

Sorry for the bad cell pics, the lighting was pretty bad and I forgot to take pics inside the shop lol.

I also got a full set of Meisters a while ago, but one was really damaged. I thought it could be fixed. Nope. So I had to buy 2 brand new rears, since the set I bought first were S1 and those are discontinued, so I had to get S1Rs for the rears.

How the hell did someone pull that off?

Also I replaced the thermostat in my Cherokee today, super easy to access even if the reassembly took a couple tries because the tstat doesn't like to stay in place. It was definitely the cause of my problems seeing as the frame piece of the old one was shattered and the spring and such were just sort of floating around.

Great choice of tire for a place like Vancouver where we see so much rain. I run these on my car....excellent grip in the dry but especially good in the wet. The Continental DW were my other possible choice but figured I'd pay the extra and just get the PS2. They give great feedback at the limit and are pretty quiet.

I don't think it's bad if you want to learn how to drive your car better or just want to treat yourself to a day of fun. Be it for fun or education, the cost is relative. Some people don't mind spending a couple of hundred bucks on a meal.

Another driving school I wouldn't mind checking out is Dirtfish.

Seems pretty good considering the instruction they have, Hooked on Driving is about ~$325 for a day but their instruction seems more based around getting famaliar with a track whereas ProFormance seems geared towards teaching technique as well. The tricky bit is that a lot of companies are doing a lot of different events and it's hard to sort out which ones help you work towards more advanced stuff.

westopher
04-18-2014, 11:12 PM
It's not cheap, but it's the first step to being able to do lap days solo at pacific raceways and the ridge which are two awesome tracks close to home. Hell I'd pay 550 just for the solo licence, so I figure I get a free day of driving and instruction. I've heard from some people it's just a blast so I'm not worried about the cost.

You can purchase track day insurance but its crazy expensive. If you read ICBC fine print, it doesn't cover death or injury from "racing or a speed test" but nowhere does it say it doesn't cover your property on a track day. Either way. Its a calculated risk, and to be honest I think driving on a race track is 1/100000000000000th as dangerous as driving through richmond.

It might not specifically say they won't cover damage sustained at a track day, however good luck getting a claim approved...

If the car ends up in pieces it was for the right reasons. $550 seems little pricey but it's been a few years for me. I used to pay about $275 for an event with tons of lap time. Pretty much wide open in the afternoon to enter and exit the track at will. Some peeps on here would remember the Definitive Driving group.

As for insurance, you have none. ICBC wouldn't touch a claim that was on a closed course. That said, use your head and you'll be fine.

i wish more ppl had this mentality when it comes to taking their car to the track. there's a few ppl locally who won't go to track days because "they wont be first".. what does that even mean?

any track is as safe as it's driver. i've been taking all my daily drivers to the track for the last.. forever and i've never had any close calls (well just one last yr where i think i fell asleep for a second and went straight off the track.. lol). i also do push pretty hard but never beyond what i'm comfortable with (a lot of ppl oddly need to learn this...)

just be smart, check the ego at the door. enjoy your track day!

I hope I don't have a track full of cowboys thinking they are out to win 24 hrs of Le Mans, but I think thats another positive of knowing everyone out on that track is going to have an instructor in their car that day. If people are being stupid they are going to put a stop to it or they will be off the track by the end of the lap.

i know with proformance (and most lapping days), if they notice a lot of shit, they'll call a drivers meeting to try to clean it up =)

for what its worth, most track days are usually pretty safe. i'd imagine for the price you're paying, everyone has a mutual interest in learning!

Define true purpose? So tell the people who own civics and corollas that they are only to be used for appliances? Executive sedans like E klass, 5ers to sedately ferry executives in the back seat?

Sounds good when you read it, but horrible in reality.

Fundamentally, the true purpose of any motor vehicle is to be driven, regardless of what capacity. So yes, if it's left to sit and rot, it's being left to "die".

It sounds even better when you read it properly. I never said they were only to be used for that, but that it's a waste not to use it for its true purpose at all.

Using your examples, a Civic and Corolla are generally A to B cars but also meant to have some fun and sportiness. An executive sedan generally ferries around execs but also has the balls to really move when you give it the beans. Any of those cars are also wasted by just puttering around pointlessly their entire lives, the same way a big truck is truly destroyed by only being used to ferry kids to soccer practice. An extreme example would be driving to the mall in a semi truck. That is destroying a vehicle because you've completely missed the point of it.

IMO if you're not using a vehicle to it's full potential at least occasionally you bought the wrong car.

Picked up some OEM all-weather floor mats at Point Roberts this morning, they're not as durable or practical as weathertechs or Husky liners but they were only about $85 shipped and they're pretty!

I actually found these on Instagram haha. 2 of them were already this colour and then the other two needed to be refinished to match. The previous owner ran 16x8 +15 on all corners. If you follow stickydiljoe, you might recognize it:

You honestly have a way better chance of crashing on the street. These HPDE's are such a controlled environment, especially the Novice groups. As long as you have a good head on your shoulders and can drive half decent you will be fine. I feel safer on a track than on No. 3 Road.

I didn't know fiske was in Langley! They are definitely some of the highest quality wheels you can put on your car. Along with the likes of Kinesis, Work, CCW, etc.

BABU
05-07-2014, 04:43 PM
They are light. Same level as CCW, HRE.. hardwares all aircraft grade. Colors anodize mostly from them, not sure about powder coat option.

They are right beside the Langley airport, can get your custom offset measure out there.
