It took me literally 10 minutes to have it set up. Just plugs into the OBD and tape it up to your dash. It looks fine in day time which was my main concern. The hardest part is figuring out where you want to display it!

It was originally $110.00 from the manufacturer's site but got it cheap for $60.00 off ebay, suggested by another RS member

Aww damn, why'd it have to be OBD. I need a speedo like that but for an oldass car.

i want to trade for a manual, but i have one of the lowest mileage gencoupes and i'd end up with a higher mileage one, then i'd be spending more upgrading the manual tranny which isn't known to be that great to begin with

and doing an auto to manual swap is a pain in the ass

i do wish i started off with a manual though, but the deal for this car was way too good to pass up, so i'm going to make the best of it

Clutch Slave, Clutch Master, some brake line to make a clutch hard line, flexible clutch line, Exedy clutch, a couple 10" electric fans, aluminium radiator, electric fan relay kit, new wire crimps, terminals, heat shrink, water pump, thermostat, gaskets… I'm sure there's more.

Oh, and 2 days ago. 4 Speed transmission (Deciding whether to go with stock 4 speed, or use the unknown condition 5 speed I have in stooge), flywheel, manual distributor and starter, cooling fan and fan clutch…

Sigh. Once I seal the deal on a pedal set, I should have everything to convert the Z over to a manual. It should also be reliable with a whole new cooling system.

Are you sure your driveshaft and trans mount will work for both?

hud 91gt
10-16-2014, 08:59 PM
I'm just going by what the interwebz tell's me. It says yes! I'm scared shitless to do it. Hopefully no drama. This car has been a learning experience. From only ever having changed struts, wiring stereos and doing oil changes to full suspension/bushing changes, steering system overhauls, brake overhauls and now adding cooling system and transmission work to the list i'm getting all the boxes ticked. ha

If only I was more patient with reconditioning/restoring the parts it would be a lot prettier :p Living in an apartment sucks sometimes.

That's cool. Hope it all goes relatively smooth.

I'm not so lucky. My current brake master is where the clutch master is supposed to go. So I have to drill out a reinforcement plate on a donor car and plug weld it into place, then take the pedals off it too. I think the trans tunnel might need some trimming to get the shifter in.

Best way to learn is on your own junk. You can take your time and do things to your standards.

hud 91gt
10-16-2014, 09:14 PM
If there was welding involved I wouldn't be attempting it. Seems to be a pretty straight forward process. I envy you. ha

I don't really know what your meaning by this. But right now that is the plan. Keep it looking fairly stock. No gawdy flares, massive front spoilers etc.

auto to manual should be too bad, especially on a RWD car. Just be sure you don't end up with too many spare bolts at the end.

Too late now, i've already ordered it all! Although, I wouldn't mind having a clutch line on hand to copy. Might as well make a new one since it will match all the other new copper nickel brake lines. As for a pedal box form your buddy, unfortunately a '73 box is different then the early box's.

Well you got the silencer so you'll be alright. I find it's reasonable...I've never felt the need to run the silencer. It sounds damn good when you get on it as any titanium system gives than kind of "Tin" metal sound similar to time attack cars.

I just run their cat-back. Their downpipe is 2.75" which Tomei claim is the best size for good torque and response but many believe that's if your keeping stock like pressure. For elevated boost pressure I prefer a true 3" from the o2 down to the tip. They do offer a test pipe as well...probably should have got it as a SS test pipe is surprisingly heavy for its size. Maybe later down the road.

Until the eca-2 arrives (shipping is delayed another week) I'm focusing on interior and maintainance over the next few months

Bought EBC Red stuff pads that went in last weekend. Ran these since I purchased the car and love them. Break in is noisy for the first 100-200 miles but it's worth it thereafter: little dust, very quiet and they can take some decent abuse on the track while maintaining good bite on the street when cold.
4 bar omni map senor as my current 3 bar is only accurate to about 28-30psi. I log boost on my laptop via the map sensor when tuning so this is critical for me down the road on E85

New winter tires and rims - had to get rid of the 15"s as they felt like they were rolling over on the S2S.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how does a sequential shifter with the 5 speed box?

The black box looking thing under the shift knob is a drum assembly that rotates through the h pattern as you pull back or push on the shift knob. It makes for quicker shifting and no chance of a mis-shift.

How did I never know those existed? I always thought a sequential setup required a $$$ transmission.

dared3vil0
11-11-2014, 09:53 PM
^ Same. I thought a sequential gearbox was the only way to have that effect. Never realized you can get sequential shifters... Though it's not a true sequential where you only use the clutch for downshifts.

Tbh there seems to be a slight issue with that unit. Most videos I've seen you do not have to put it back into position after pushing/pulling on the shifter handle. Almost like there is a spring broken some where..

Either way I can't wait for it to show up so I can play with it!

imo, gears are the best performance upgrade, where accelearation is more important than top speed. When I switch 3.62 gears to 4.11 gears on my E46 M3, the car woke up big time. The best part of gears is not even the acceleration, it was the improved city driveability

Triple Weber 40 DCOE w/ Canon Manifold. Merry Xmas Mr Datsun.

I actually am not sure if I'm going to use these or not, but they were much too good of a deal t pass up. I have slight turbo itch, and I think FI using megasquirt may be the smart way to go for the time being.

Multi-carbs are so sexy though.

I had a dual Weber 48 DCOE setup for mine but sold it in favour of OEM Solex 40's. 48's are way too big but I still want the nostalgic setup and they sound wonderful.

I guess it all depends on what your going for with the car.

Bought my first ever car parts online a few days back. Bought a stereo off a newer model VW from Black Forest Industries (OEM fitment yay), as well as a shift knob/shift pattern coin. Total price before taking exchange rate into account: just under $450. Never thought I'd spend $160 on a shift knob, but it's just so beautifulllll.

No. This is a different set.

This set was requested to be built to Rookie's original specifications. Basically Rookie had these exact wheels before he went widebody, the specs were 22x10 ET22 w/ 2.5" lip in the front, and 22x10 ET22 with a 3.5" lip in the back.

After he went widebody he went crazy and altered all the inner and outer barrels to make a 3.5" lip in the front and something crazy like a 7" lip in the rear.

I likely will get new wheels long before I reach that point, but I couldn't pass on the opportunity to do my own version of an FX with these wheels.

woah, molded bumper

Rear bumper is completely molded to the rear quarter. Side skirts are molded to the front fender. I would never do that, the car is essentially impossible to work on now.

Granted Viet's FX is a pure show car through and through. The thing sits in a garage now for months or years on end, but previously would travel from show to show, or shoot to shoot. It's not a vehicle that sees very much road use. There is simply too much work invested to use the vehicle. It's kinda sad actually.

Got a tune to get more out of my bolt-ons. Exceladyne Poweraxel module loaded with Beyond Redline stage 1 tune. What I like about this module is that it holds 3 different tunes - Stock, 91 octane & 94octane - so I can switch in between different fuel maps. The tune's suppose to put out 245whp & 290wtq, not badd from baseline of 187whp. Once I get some more skrill I'll be upgrading to 550cc injectors and a piranharace werks stage 2 tune; should push out 260whp & 320wtq. Goodbye OEM clutch.

Yes.

The price for a lot of stuff is going to go up locally sooner rather than later.

Nothing has changed, the US is still miles cheaper.

As a comparison I am getting a new set of tires right now. KalTire wants $458 a tire, whereas discount tire in the states had them on sale for $170 a tire when I bought them 2 weeks ago.

Even with the exchange rate, my time, my gas, taxes, I am still miles ahead. Couple that with a grocery trip, and a 1/2 price tank of gas over the border and it offsets my costs greatly.

I agree that local pricing will start to increase to reflect exchange.. I'm already noticing that on items I've been watching on CDN websites.

However it's not necessarily true that the US is still miles cheaper. Your situation was not the norm as it was on sale. What was the regular USD price and is KalTire the best comparison for tire prices in CAD?

With that said, I've been trying to buy locally now due to the exchange for most of my items unless it's a US only item.

Yes, it has affected the amount that I shop for car stuff. Not new stuff though, mostly private sale stuff from various classifieds. When the dollar was par(or close to it) I was buying wheels like crazy(I'm a bit of a wheel whore) but now that has taken a backseat. Same with rare, discontinued hard to find parts. It has really affected my desire to buy a car from the US now as well. NSX and P-car shopping has been put on hold now.

Since my company pays for my gas I could give a fuck about gas prices and wish our dollar was better.

Regular price to regular price comparison is basically $224 USD vs 499 CAD.

I got the cheaper $450 price from Kal Tire when I told them the US price for the tires. Volco said they can do as low as like 400, but then once we nailed down the sizing he said he can't get those tires (i'm pretty sure he can get them, but he just dug himself a hole on the price, and didn't want to honour it).

There is a way around this, just buy a ton of USD right now. The dollar likely won't be going back unless something sparks a change, and you can either spend the money, or just change it back and make money off the exchange rate. I mentioned somewhere else, I exchanged a bunch of money awhile back at a good exchange rate, so I don't fret about it any longer...:)

...my wife and Mom rented me a new 911 turbo for a day for my 30th birthday. I'll be spending April 14th with it. Its money spent on a car, so I figured I'd post it here.

So what time you picking me up?

As for my goodies, I grabbed some GSC s2 cams, Kiggly beehive springs, retainers, HLA and Supertech valve seals....going to turn the mistubishi into a honda and rev to the moon. I'm at 58,000 miles so I'll be ordering a 60k service kit soon (water pump, belts, tensioner etc) soon. Thinking of painting the valve cover when everything is getting done. Leaning toward the "matte blue gun metal" the volk te37 ultra comes in (last pic for colour reference)

Just got Discount Tire to put on a set of 225/60R16 Ohtsu FP6000 (rebadged Falken Ziex 512 with a different sidewall) , down from crappy grand touring all-season 235/65R16 monster truck tires.

Took a 1hr cruise to Lynnwood and 2hr cruise back home after meeting with a friend. Average speed was around 80mph, my car has never felt so planted and sure-footed. No more vague steering feel or floatiness at highway speeds. Much less understeer and car feels much more confident at its handling limits.

And best of all (minus the crappy CAD), after taxes, installation, and all the other miscellaneous recycling fees, I only paid $327 USD :alonehappy: which works out to about $405 CAD which is still a hella great deal.

No longer have monster truck stance, completely ready for coils and slam next week!

^I had the Falken Ziex (the 912s though) on my car when I bought it and I hated it. But then again, it's just an Element so you shouldn't have any issues :troll:

The service attendant tried to sell me the more expensive Falken Pro G4S A/S (Ziex 950) citing its increased treadwear (65k instead of 35k miles) but the tread pattern is more all-season than performance-oriented and non-directional with mini sipes for snow, which honestly I do not need as I rarely do any driving in snow :fuckthatshit:

I actually had one of these before and the colour matching was pretty good. Of course it's not blended so it might look a bit "out of place".

ACPT carbon fibre driveshaft for the GTFour. More than I wanted to spend, but it popped up at too good a deal to pass up since ACPT sold off the design and the buyers jacked the price up by a stupid amount.
