slightly off topic question for people with a US shipping address... what service do you guys use? and do you guys have some sort of health/travel insurance for when you cross over? i know it's a short trip but awhile back i read about someone on another message board who got hit by an uninsured US driver and what should have been a 1 hour round trip turned into a 2 week hospital stay in the US :(

i don't know if you can all see how jacked up the rear end is... wheel offsets are wack too. but at least they all point in the same direction this time. paint has issues... and once again i ended up with a small warp in the roof. also, look closely at the rear window... sigh.

happier with this one. 9/10? because of the same old paint blistering issues. wilkinson's said it was because kyosho can't seem to get it right during the paint process and the bodyshells are not properly cleaned of contaminants after casting. thankfully it's only in an area of the rear quarter panel where it's hard to see.

egh, i only paid $180 for mine.

having said that, i am forced to not recommend that you get this one. it's really detailed, but the execution is still not up to par. as far as resin models goes, otto mobile/gt spirit are are much better.

i have more to rant about. they screwed the car down to the base so deeply that it flatspotted the tires. the tires should not be touching anything because of the spacers underneath but they got compressed.

maybe in time autoart will release one...

yes they are, but they are better known for their smaller scales, and they used to be under the HPI brand before getting cut loose by the company to be on their own as ignition model.

but after this last one, with the uneven quality control, high prices and there being only one distributor in the US (because they are no longer part of HPI) which makes it so difficult to get on this side of the world... it's not worth it :(

having said that, i've seen posts online where others buy these as upgrade projects knowing there are issues to be fixed, and then add upon them, from making them a rolling chassis (it's strictly a non-roller static model straight out of the box) or add lighting to it because resin models have no opening parts so it's a hollow shell inside with lots of room to do electronics... and they turn out pretty spectacular.

i'm going to have to search youtube again for the video i saw of one... it had engine sounds (recorded from gran turismo onto a sound card), and interior/exterior lighting (with working turn signals, etc.). it was part of a diorama that replicated a scene from gran turismo (the builder had a screen capture on a computer monitor in the background).

I got my grubby hands on this oddity thanks to a friend in Japan... it's actually that crazy stupid expensive Mark model that I posted awhile ago of the 1:18 2002 NSX-R that was nearly $2,000... except that you can pick the model up in its unassembled state! It's kinda cool... you have to paint the body yourself and it's got all the photo etched parts and everything, you even have to put the seatbelts together with the little buckles and cloth straps... I am undecided about whether I want to build it or keep it the way it is... I'd have to have a pro shop paint it, no way I would attempt it and eff it up hahaha

I have no idea if it's part of the limited series, I'm going to say probably not because there's no base with a plaque or any paperwork indicating it's #/whatever or anything like that. She found it for me on the PostHobby website and ordered it without even asking me if I wanted it actually hahaha good thing I did :p

She pre-ordered me one of the black ones too, so we'll see how that is when it gets released!

Big thanks to Toast for selling me his UT Porsche 993 Turbo arena red. Shipped it Monday the same day I paid and arrived safely today. Nicely packaged in styrofoam peanuts and wrapped in bubble wrap. All doors taped closed with masking tape. Perfect condition model and exactly what I wanted. The quality of the UT surpassed my expectations so I am happy!

He did a few modifications too it including: Red painted tail lights (North American style), chemical dipped front signals clear, raised hood badge, Tamiya painted grey interior to make it look less plastic.

But for real. The 1/12 Rosso nsx is an pretty old model but it has full opening doors and engine cover. I am just missing this one to complete my 1/12 r32 and rx7 FD. There is also a suzuka edition for the nsx. Has the extra safety lights on the roof.

.... that's the price they were always sold at though. Expensive for rare discontinued ones is like the Type-R's and Ford GT's and stuff like that which are in the $250-300 range or more.

They start at $150 nowadays for the low end models. Their new resin line that's coming will be lower priced, but they suck pretty hard from what I've seen so far...

Ya, I was debating between the white or blue one but the white one was cheaper so I went with that. The mirrors was such a bitch to put on though since the screws is so small.


I got mine from Wilkinson's. The price difference was only maybe less than $10 between the white and blue or black. Mirrors were definitely tricky. Had to readjust both ends of each mirror multiple times to get it in the right position and as symmetrical as possible. IMO, still worth it for the level of detail.

...so I have a fairly decent collection of 1:18 Autoart models (all sealed in boxes) that have been stored in my parents crawlspace for about 5-6 years. The collection was skewed towards Japanese sportscars and WRC competitors. My intent was always to bring them home once I had an adequate display case. Unfortunately, my parents had a flood in their crawlspace a few months ago and they lost virtually everything... this is the first time I have been able to work through what was salvaged and all but three models are gone. :(

The lesson? Enjoy your models while you have them .... I had about 20 that I never enjoyed and now all but 3 are gone. I'm going to bring them home and park them next to my GF's F1 1:18 scale Minichamps model even if I don't have an adequate display case. :)

That's a great point - my parents settled with their insurance provider but honestly given how much damage their property sustained and how much work was in front of them it didn't seem at all appropriate to ask for some of that money. They offered some but they needed it far more than I did at the time so I didn't pursue. :)

The only stupid thing is I swear by storing things in sealed plastic totes but for some reason my models were in cardboard boxes. Oh well. :)

It sucks about the cars but what is heartbreaking is that I lost all my academic research works, journals, all my published materials, etc. :( but again, my fault. :)

There are a lot of moving parts on this Aventador Roadster and the build quality is super impressive....... I made some videos of various things.

The doors actually have door handles you push forward to pop the doors and they are spring loaded. They open regardless of whether the roof panels are in or out:

Three main places I goto in hk are ModelcarExpo, NewAce, and Hung Hing in wanchai.


When I goto to the hk side. Another option is contact some of the ebay sellers that are from HK. If you see any models you like, you can ask them if they can meet up instead of shipping. I did that before.
