Because it's paid for by your company. Execs at big banks get monthly allowances on Rental. Let's ignore Morgan Stanley or JP Morgan, but even someone like ABN pays about $200,000 a month for each exec to live... and they are all living in houses on the peak or Southside

So no one really would pay to live there, but their companies would! haha

Yea I think people know that, but so what kind of work are you doing in HK that requires you to wear them exclusively?

Kiton and Brioni..... lol well I guess it's true that if I have to ask, I probably can't afford it :p

any recommendations for a place to get nice dress shoes that are COMFORTABLE? Kinda contradicting but the pair I got right now is messed up and it hurts my left foot so much it swells up after I walk about 30 mins in them (HTF do women wear those insane fashion statements?). Or maybe it's the way I walk.... lol but yea anything that looks dressy (hard wood sole and leather), but maybe with more cushioning or something? But please don't tell me about that place that sells made to measure shoes for 20k, I want something a little cheaper :p

lay ho yao cheen.
you are not appreciating your wealth my man.

downshift 01-27-2008 06:48 AM

Wow... 20k+ suits? Armani suits? Versace suits?

What do you people do to require such working attire? Care to hook up a fellow canadian with a similar job? haha...

But seriously, any of you care to share what you guys do?

I work in HK too, and I have yet to meet anyone that needs to wear 20k+ suits... or maybe my social circle is just too small... hahaha....

SE3P-T 01-27-2008 07:58 AM

Titus.. i am UP for a meet :)

btw i didn't see people wearing 20k+ suit..
WAIT. i think i did see it ONCE, he was the GM of PCCW.. LV's his monthly income is over 100k..

yau1225 01-27-2008 12:27 PM

Try Bally/Prada/Church's. I find their shoes really comfortable.

I know, Jeez... I'm wearing $600 suits... and they are the ones that are on sale and the last ones on the rack.

I admit it... I'm not cool enough to wear $20K suits... dayamn... I also don't own a Ferrari or a PorSHA to drive on a Sunday run...

Fuck, some of you are too bling for me,I will likely skip the next meet!

dna82 01-28-2008 07:51 AM

i'm so bored in HK, if your not into prostituion or shopping, this sucks.

PS, 20K HKD really isn't that much money. Any name brand suit would cost you that much, 900HKD suits are dirt cheap.

lol even when the Director of the new company that hired me told me to "dress up" to see the CEO for the final interview, I didn't bring myself to buy a 20k suit....

Well let me join the club too inzomniak, I don't have one either, only related to people who do... but then you don't see people like us turning into guys like Hyde and go on and make shit up like "yea I bought that C4S and I cruise with it to my 3 storey home on the Peak on week days and take my F430 to my mansion in Repluse Bay on weekends" to feel good about ourselves. We work hard to feel good about ourselves, with or without the C4S or F430 or 600hp EVOs....

But yea FYI to the guy who said I'm not appreciating my wealth, I'm working 2 jobs, a day job at my family's company (and yea I actually work my ass off and get my hands dirty when we need to load 8 tons of denim onto a truck before the Chinese border closes. And when I say load, I don't mean getting behind the wheel of a nice propane forklift like people do in Canada, I mean load as in lift and tow/push each pallet up by a manual hydraulic jack. So yea I get pissed when people ask me if it's really nice sitting in my family's office and just wait for money to arrive in my account) and also a night job as a support staff at a US law firm in HK (hence I'm posting this at 4am in the morning here). Even then, and even if I had the money I wouldn't buy myself a 20k suit... It's when you have money flowing in like no matter what you do or don't do, you get the money anyway that people buy 20+k suits. Anyway, gonna go for a change when I come back from Chinese New Year vacation and see how it goes....

I think long as you're willing to work and think with your head, one can go far in HK right now especially in this day and age where kids grew up so fucking sheltered (I had a guy at my office that managed to break all the staplers somehow when he tried changing the staples. And then another guy asks me "how do you use the jack lift?...." and I almost lost it and told him you're a fucking guy, figure it out.) If there's one thing that pisses me off the most is people who can't/are unwilling to solve problems that can be solved with elbow grease and you'd be surprised how many new graduates are like that these days. So if you could do better than that you're already heads above them... Ok... going off in a tangent here... but yea my advice would be to go into the financial sector; people have said for years that HK is declining as the financial hub, I say BS. If you're not qualified, go for another cert like securities dealing, etc. Even if you're lucky enough to get hired by a foreign company that doesn't require mandarin, go take some courses and get yourself familiarized, it's critical in a job market that lists every job as "Requred: Fluent English, Cantonese, Mandarin, (and Japanese/French/German preferred)". I think you shouldn't bother with a MBA till you have least 5-8 yrs in a management position. It's mostly for connections and such, your needs would be better served in an accounting course or something.

About the GM of PCCW, was he the one who lives in Mid-levels and called the cops on the Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank who was seen assulting a taxi driver? LOL saw it in the south china morning post last week..... guess PCCW won't be getting any corporate rate/deals from Standard Chartered for a while ROFL

SE3P-T, hmmm maybe we could get a movie meet since lol not many of us actually drive in HK (I'm planning on getting a sportbike sometime this year though)? But not a lot of good movies lately... probably after CNY?

Thanks for the shoes info, hmmm... yea I see Churchs ads sometimes in the paper..... but then I'm always reluctant to go into those stores only to want to walk back out after seeing the prices.... lol anyways yea guess I'll have to go soon before my new job....

achiam 01-28-2008 02:29 PM

Titus this is Ah Charm. hilarious to see you're on here too lol

SE3P-T 01-29-2008 06:50 AM

Titus, i got no problem after CNY, but where are we heading?
sai kung? and i dont know much road in hk...
