I think living in HK really demeans the human experience..... everything's an endless grind.... people trudging in one direction through tunnels to work..... one can wake up and never get more than 10 mins of sunlight as they go from home to underground MTR and into their windowless offices..... can make anyone feel like an animal..

I moved here a couple weeks ago - just got an apartment last week. It's not as great as yours though, but it's good enough for me!

When I get settled in, I'll take lots of pics and post them on my blog. I've already been writing about it since I got here.

I see what you mean about the grind, but since I am never gonna be part of it, it doesn't get to me at all! I just make sure that Sunday is my "work all day" day, so I avoid the REAL grind - shopping on everyone's day off.

whats the HK way of washing a car?

isnt it all the same? i see no difference in washing a car in hk compare to canada, just that its alot hotter in hk and i dont have to do the work.

or I guess ppl living in the suburbs like new territories or a house can use hoses in HK?
anyway, the management at my place posted notices asking ppl not to use hoses and only use damp clothes to conserve water
to me washing/waxing a car is more like a pass time than a chore :p

i forget the exact area my cousin lives but they is a spot in the car park where you can wash your car with a hose... but the place she used to live at before... it was strictly bucket and washcloth like you mentioned before.

most ppl in hk get their car washed by someone else anyways.

Yup I am here permanently. I had to decide whether to 'settle down' and buy a house, or take the chance while I am still young to live abroad, and try new things... Well you know what I decided - the ridiculous prices of real estate sure helped to make that decision ;)

Maybe I'll go back after 2010 olympics, and the bubble will have burst by then.. Wishful thinking I know, but who knows right?

As far as work goes, my main job is to run my site www.hardcoreware.net. I have been doing this since 2000...

My typical work day? Well lately it's not a lot, since I haven't had the chance to settle in. Once I am settled in, I can have 2 hour work days, or 10 hour work days, depending on what needs being done. Same thing goes for the week - can work every day for a week, or no days, depending on the needs of the site, and whether my other writers have something to be published instead. It's pretty cool but at this point doesn't get me your nice view or car ;)

yea it's ridiculous the way property prices (in HK and vancouver) are going these days..... all thanks to those property "friers" I guess

one of my friends from vancouver's doing something similiar too but he's focusing on chips for TV, and home appliances and spends quite a bit of time going to korea and such... I think it's way more interesting than what I'm doing right now... thinking of switching fields just for a change... like you said while one is still young! but I find in HK ppl want to hire lifers and they don't really give any training opportunities unless you're in a big western corp. and everything (decently paying) requires a special degree whereas I found most decent jobs in vancovuer you only require to have A degree not really a specialist or anything?

We're getting rid of the car I'm driving soon ASA we could find a decent buyer.... last bastard lowballed us and then on the day of the pick up, he said "no wait. I want to go 20,000 HKD less".... I wanted to say "I am out of word"..... lol

it would be nice to find a place like those in richdmond where you put in coins for a power wash hose....

I hear you on the 'lifer' thing. That is something I made a goal in life after my very first job - I NEVER want to work for ANYONE. EVER. Since then, I never have, and I can confidently say that I never will :)

The way I see it, if someone can afford to pay me a certain amount for my work, they are almost certainly making MORE than that from me. So why don't I do it myself and skip the middle-man! :lol

Let the drones work the same monotonous jobs 9-5 every day of the week. I'd rather control my own destiny ;)

But I did come here to broaden my horizons - get into selling something at all. Last time I was here in 2003, I was selling anime DVDs at www.hktoyz.com ... can't really do that now, so I have to figure something else out. yea, that's a thing I noticed too, most cars are clean in HK
like someone mentioned earlier ppl who could afford cars in HK usually get theiir maids or "bun bun" or "yun yun" to wash the car on the weekend
there's already someone washing our cars for us but I liked to do it myself... call it a weird... hobby :p

quite a few canadians there who died defending what was part of the british empire along side indians.... interesting to see grave sites of christians, jews and muslims who died together defending the same cause 60 years ago and now see followers of those same religions battle each other with suicide attacks and M1-Abrams....

Yeah, the problem with cars in HK is that they are OVERWASHED. Meaning you can see all the swirls and scratches in the paint.

I was washing our cars myself the other day and I noticed swirlmarks already!!! it's not the fact that there are swirlmarks that pisses me off, its the fact that we PAY AND got the swirlmarks!
Got my first look at HK road rage last night when I was driving my gf home from dinner with her family... I was following her dad and mom on Princess Margaret Road (the biggest let down when I first expected it to be some pack of twisties that could rival the sea to sky) and this honda fit starts tailgating me for no apparent reason other than I was going 10 above the speed limit and I wasn't about to speed pass my gf's dad with her in my car. So anyway, he pulls out and cuts me back off between my and my gf's dad and I'm like whatever buddy..... then he starts tailgating my gf's dad's Modena and almost rear ends him when he slows down coming off Princesss Margaret..... the clown continues this until my gf's dad decided to loose him (and me!). It turns out the guy was dropping off his gf off a block where my gf lives... what a small ____ syndrom trying to prove to his gf his Fit can beat a Modena (which he probably can if the traffic was bad enough during rush hour).
and speaking of Princess Margaret Road, the was a MORON (and I THOUGHT the stringent testing and complex roads would make any driver okay if they're smart enough to get a licence) trying to BACK UP 10 meters after he passed the Caltex gas station. For those who's not good with HK roads, imagine someone trying to back up on Oak St, after they missed the last exit before Oak St. Bridge. Oh, and do that at night time during rush hour (all hours are rush hours in HK compared to vancouver) in a dark navy Golf too. Yep, that's Moron with a capital 'M'.
Though I must say other than these incidents I'm very impressed with the level of rage control drivers have in HK considering the traffic conditions and gridlock where cutting people off is MANDATORY if you want to get to the place where you want to go without circling five districts! I dare even say that it's mellowed ME out when I got back to vancouver in feb. (I actually let MINI VANS PASS ME when I was on my way to Tofino and Whistler with my gf LOL!)
but anyway.... I think HK's killed my driving passions... it's become quite a chore... sometimes I'd rather pay for taxi and have someone else do the driving and salvage that 30 mins ride for some sleep!
HK really makes a person take time seriously and use it to the max where I used to take time for granted (reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Peter thinks of all the food wasted in the house, and to think of all the time I wasted in vancouver LOL)
So here I am at my gf's place trying to relax before this tropical storm "ChunChu" hits tomorrow.... which isn't even a category T8 so I can get time off work =p

hey rx awesome updates, its so true wut u say about taking time for granted in vancouver then in a new environment. I am currently working in miami rite now and i realise that I try to fill my days with more things to do then I would, if i was in vancouver. keep the pics coming.
