^That first shot is awsome! looks like it could be an ad for sure. Second on looks like you missed the focus slightly? hard to tell this size, but the leaf looks more focused than the sign.

MikesJo 10-08-2007 07:47 PM

I agree with 77civic on the first pic. Great capture and the quality *thumbs up*.

mc25 10-08-2007 09:05 PM

Sorry, i have to follow the pack and vote for #1 as well. I love the colours, the blue water with the green grass, wood barrel, and flowers.

Senna4ever 10-08-2007 09:24 PM

Agreed, the first pic is the better of the two. Not good enough to be used in an ad, IMHO, but still good.

ColinK 10-08-2007 11:48 PM

Thanks for the great comments guys! :)

Senna, what are you thinking I could have done better? Besides the powerlines in the back, nothing I could have really done about that....

Senna4ever 10-09-2007 12:09 AM

In a commercial ad, the name of the company is always quite prominent. It is prominent in your picture, but the letters need to be facing the camera head on. In your pic, the letter side of the barrel is facing slightly away. The lighting should be even on the barrel too. The right side of the barrel is too dark compared to the left side, and the highlights on the bands shouldn't be there. In a commercial shoot, they'd use huge diffusers, softboxes & reflectors to get rid of any distracting highlights and shadows.

I'm only just writing this because you wanted an explanation (which I should have written in the first place) and in no way is meant to take away from your effort. :) In retrospect, I would have used a little bit of fill on the right side of the barrel, via a reflector or off-camera flash.

Wow, that first pic looks amazing!

A landing picture :p

Sweet. Too bad the bird is slightly out of focus.

Senna4ever 10-09-2007 01:11 AM

I went into an abandoned house today. Kinda creepy, but was able to take pics of entropy.

^ Nice shot! How long of an exposure was that? The light at the top of the staires takes away that "creepy" feeling I think lol

Heres another photo I thought was alright from yesterday

Yeah, I wish the bird wouldn't be out of focus...Those things are quick tho! There's no way my camera could keep up with them haha..

The pic of the grapes is really nice..I don't think I've ever taken outdoor pics with my 50mm f/1.8 prime lens..Maybe I should start doing that hehe..I love the soft blur effect..

Some duckies from yesterday :)

i love the last one. it is a lot more natural than the others. It doesn't seem as posed. :) nice work on the lighting.

Senna4ever 10-12-2007 12:06 AM

Thanks! That would be the studio we will be using. :)

Senna4ever 10-12-2007 01:04 AM
