Merry Xmas from Hong Kong!

GOD it was busy... full of mainlanders taking pictures of the lasers with their P&S cameras (always making sure to turn the flash on!)... I barely was able to find a decent spot, and this one is a crop... Still managed a decent shot with this 1.6 second exposure

ColinK 12-25-2008 09:56 AM

^ nice shot!

Tim Budong 12-25-2008 04:49 PM

i need to find a day that im not partying/shopping and just photowalk HK...
goddamn..this is hard..
HAHAHA

peazs 12-25-2008 07:08 PM

i only had my P&S when i was watching the light show. i know what you mean when i see all these flashes going off... lol

ColinK 12-25-2008 07:13 PM

I remeber being on the arc du triomph in paris and people taking pictures of the eiffle tower, which is at least a few km away with flashes haha

But how should they know any better? the camera is on auto, so it should work right? Ohh...no, that's right, they need a more expensive camera for that to turn out good

[/end rant]

Shot with 5D mkII & 24-70 f2.8 L in video mode. 3200 ISO. Great thing about live view is how you can preview the bokeh.

When you take the shot in video mode, are you limited to 1080px?

No, you have full RAW capture, but AF is slow and the screen blacks out so it's hard to track a moving object. The video mode is useless for most applications though - USM noise is horrendous. Pre-focusing is a must.

Senna4ever 12-28-2008 01:40 PM

5D mkII w/24-70mm f2.8 3200 ISO handheld.

From what area of the image? It's a little blurry due to being hand held.

ColinK 12-28-2008 10:29 PM

was just curious to see what iso 3200 looked like at 100% so doesn't even have to be that image.

I posted 6400 ISO images with 100% crops in the 5D mkII thread - page 4. :)

I know you can zoom in video mode, but can you change auto focus (or just manual focus) in video mode as well?

Senna4ever 12-29-2008 09:05 PM

What do you mean by 'change auto focus'?

Soundy 12-29-2008 09:11 PM

I think he means, does AF operate while recording video?

I don't think so...I've already addressed that in the post I wrote and which he quoted.

peazs 12-30-2008 09:42 PM

Oops, yes, I meant does AF operate while in video mode. Ignore 'change'. Hmm... the part I quoted you on said "AF is slow." But you also did say pre-focusing is a must, so I got confused.
