How about just using "misinformed". Ignorant has such a strong negative connotation to it that people take offense to it. :)

Anyways, less talk, more pics! :D

Here's my contribution - this was from a month ago when I was in Denver for training. Decided to see Sid the kid play the Avs. Took this picture while I was there:

Too bad it wasn't a bit more centered - it was a moving shot and I was way up in the upper bowl so it was a bit difficult to compose the shot on the fly. (yes, I'm an amateur) :D

Exactly why it has a negative lean to it, telling someone they have a lack of knowledge is basically like me saying "you don't know what you are talking about". Just because someone has a different opinion on what works as a HDR, doesn't mean they are wrong, it just means they see it differently.

Oh, for fuck sakes. I don't want to drag this any further, but the word, "ignorant" in its pure, English dictionary form DOES NOT HAVE A NEGATIVE CONNOTATION! The word is misused by people to have a negative connotation by some people, I guess, but it really does not have, or is intended to have such a slant to it. I used it in its Queen's English form, not the way some people have twisted it to be...please understand this. People who say, "You're ignorant," with the intention of being condescending are not using the word correctly. In university, we ended up wasting a whole English lecture on words like 'ignorant,' 'unique,' & 'couple' and how people frequently misuse them.

Please let this be the last post on this subject.

Heh... Build Your Own Book. Don't Langara full-timers get the invite for this?? Students from the big photography schools in Vancouver get invited to work with John Casablanca's models, fashion stylist, hair stylist & make-up artist students and do a shoot together. It's a great way to network and build up a portfolio with people whom you may end up working with in the future. Do you want to tag along if I get called back? They do this every 2 months or so. The John Casablanca students have to come up with 4 or 5 looks and the photographer just has to take the shots. You're free to bring any gear you wish, and you can shoot in studio at the John Casablanca's campus or go out on location, which is what I like to do. I think next time I'm going to take the 7 foot Profoto umbrella with me! :D

bikerx 02-09-2009 09:03 PM

More photography, less English!

Well, those two words are absolute terms, meaning they can only have one meaning. For instance, 'unique' means that the subject being described is the only example of its kind. One, and only one. It is often misused by saying that "_____ is fairly unique," or "_____ is somewhat unique." There is no such thing as 'fairly unique'...something is either unique or it isn't.
The word, 'couple' means two. Not three, or four or five. Just two. For instance, people misuse 'couple' by saying, "A couple of minutes," or, "a couple of things," when they really mean to say, "few." The word, 'few' is vague...I was taught that it can be anywhere from two to seven.

This concludes your English lesson for today. :)

Sweet! You'll be sharing the shoot with me, not coming as an assistant, although I will have to ask you to assist when I shoot, and vice versa. :) Yeah, bring your octobox...which speedring adapter do you have?

Oh, and check out this thing. The quality of light is amazing....easily outpowers daylight: http://www.profoto.com/products/prof...-reflector-240

The set-up we got cost $10,000. That's for the whole kit though, including the light and generator.

Finally got around to looking at some of the pics I took when I did my road trip back in December. Some touristy pics from Santa Monica Pier:

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8638/img2120st7.jpg

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/1267/img2123tv1.jpg

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8373/img2135ip7.jpg

I really need to work on my composition. The 3rd picture would have looked waaay better if I wasn't zoomed in so close...
