now to find a microSD card... any recommendations? A-Power is selling the 1GB Kingston for $18. |
Get the Kingston... If that's the cheapest you can get it in Canada, go for it I guess. Make sure it's made in Japan. |
Is compc down for everyone else? |
hey everyone, so i was considering buying a DS today because it looks like it has alot of old games which i would love to play but whats with all this downloading etc. games? anyone have like a link to a dummys guide regarding the DS and all it's capabilities? |
i've been looking into buying a DS too so here's what i've found... to sum things up... some very smart people have figured out a way to "trick" the DS to running games off of non-nintendo cartridges. they call these cartridges "Flash-Carts" b/c they use flash memory inside to store the games. They come in two flavors: removable memory, or built in memory. the removable memory kind has a slot in the cartridge for you to fit a MicroSD card, and the built in memory kind has the memory already built in. Basically, what you do is you download games on the net via newsgroups or Bittorrent and load it onto the MicroSD card or the built in memory on the flashcart (usually via usb cable), and then u plug the device into the DS's cartridge slot and away you go! you can also play movies, use applications and other custom-made "homebrew" applications. There's lots of different types of to choose from, but the most up-to-date ones are: R4DS, M3 DS Simply, and Supercard DS One (there's others, but i think these 3 are the most popular). These are called "Slot-1" Flash-carts because it fits on the top cartridge slot. Older Flash-Carts were called "Slot-2" Flash-carts b/c they plugged into the bottom slot that is intended for Gameboy Advance cartridges. The problem with these Flash-Carts is that they only stored the games... you still needed to "trick" the DS into thinking that there's a legit DS game cartridge plugged into Slot 1, so you either needed to reprogram the inside of the DS (which voids your warranty), or you needed to buy a device called a "Passme", which plugs into Slot-1 and makes the DS think that there's a legit cart plugged in. The newer flash-carts (R4DS, M3, Supercard) are an all-in-one solution because it's just one piece and it both allows you to store games and also tricks the DS. What you will need are: 1. Nintendo DS 2. Flash Cart (R4DS, M3 DS Simply, Supercard DS One) 3. MicroSD card (1GB recommended) 4. Download games off net. I think SkinnyPuppy has a deal going on for the Flashcart and 1GB mem card, you might want to ask him for details. here are some helpful sites. http://www.dualscene.net/ http://www.ds-scene.net/ there... 1 whole day's worth of research all summed up for you to read in 5 mins :S |
wow thanks alot eklypse very much appreciated anyone buy Theme park yet? i remeber playin that back on my buddies old POS mac with |
i 'have' theme park ;) it's a straight up port so don't expect anything new... however it's still fun and it works well in a tiny 2 screen form. |

It'd be sweet if they made a DS version of Theme Hospital... I loved that game. |
Hey SkinnyPupp, I've sent you a PM, not sure if received it. ;p |
K, went out and bought a DS today along with Theme park, been playin it for the last like 3 hours :D Anyways, here's a question for all u with the chip etc. I dont want a headache with all this stuff, i want to buy a Micro SD card, and one of the chips or w/e to be able to play the downloaded games, i dont want to have to swap stuff over etc. so what do u guys recomend? what is straight plug and play downloaded games, what works the best with least headache? also where can i get it? i REALLY dont want to have to go into crystal mall :S |
talk to Skinnypuppy and ask for the hookup! LOL buy a BIG microSD card (2 GB) so you can load all your fav games at one time without having to unload and reload them everytime you want to play diff games. R4DS, Supercard DS One, and M3DS Simply are all super simple.... load up games on MicroSD, plug microSD into the Flashcart, plug the flashcart into the game slot on the DS and away you go! |
If you buy from me, I'll explain exactly how to use it :D I'll ship it to you, it would take about 3-5 business days. |
LOL i keep calling you skinnypuppy and not skinnypupp |
man i've been playin theme park for like 3 days now and only passed the first park :@ i hate how u have to design it for the people and not how an actuall good park would look lol |
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... my R4DS from KickGaming hasn't arrived yet :( |
anyone else psyched about pokemon pearl/diamond!?!?!!? so sad, im an rpg junkie. currently hooked on harvest moon |
Only 1.5 weeks away! |
man once my R4 comes i dunno wtf im gonna do with my life, so many games i want to play even stupid theme park has got me hooked, my DS has probably seen 15+ hours of play in the first 3 days i've had it maybe it's time for me to get a job where i work more then 2 days a week :S |
Anyone having problems with some of the second generation cards? E.g., the M3-Lite, or Supercard Lite? I can't seem to get it compatable with some of the newer games e.g. Theme Park even though I updated the software and firmware. |
same here, cant wait for pokemon.. i beat the japanese version up to the 4th badge with FAQ's, but it got pointless. eddoe: check out dualscene.net (forgot the exact URL, but its called dualscene) - big compatibility list for your supercard or M3, w/e. of course, you should ALWAYS check eng.supercard.cn for the newest firmware and converter program versions (or wait, unless you're talking about supercard DS one, then you don't even need to convert roms :D) |
the R4 from dealextreme works perfectly the keysfactory case from DX feels exactly as one i ordered from renchi u just can't beat their prices |
the new r4 firmware allows for cheats. do you think this will cripple wifi? |
