Recently went to Horseshoe Bay to pick up snow tires for the new car... got a little lost, missed the exit to the Village and ended up heading to Whistler. Called the guy who I was buying from, made U-turn on Ansell Place and then took an exit to the old Sea to Sky highway! I haven't driven on this old friend for quite a while... I remember the first time I had my N and was heading up to Whistler with the family, it was quite nerve-wracking.

Followed that back to the guy's house... boy was that fun! It's still as twisty as ever, but now it's mostly smooth blacktop and there was no traffic at all... I was the only car there until the end! Then went into Horseshoe Bay village proper... dark, no streetlights, streets are super narrow and change elevation very quickly! Also quite fun.

Trying to find it again on Google Street View, as the normal Google Maps View doesn't reveal it... will post up what I find!

EDIT: it's called Marine Drive now... http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&sourc...226.47,,0,5.97 this is the turn-off I remember. I can't get in it via Street View. :(

I just discovered that google street view has been done for most of the interior of BC! Great way to checkout these roads..

Its paved to just after Otter Lake in Tulameen, then it turns into gravel. It's a great road. I have pictures on page 2.

The Tulameen area in the gravel area is good road to drive, but when u are lowered probably be a bumpy ride all the way.....

Thanks! I have gravel phobias, after getting rock chips and flat tires. I'll definitely check this area out this summer. Was there cell reception there? (in case anything goes wrong?)?

Well, make sure nothing goes wrong, because cell phone reception is non-existent. No drifting on the gravel either, as you can fall off the cliffs, or hit a cow.

East side of Harrison Hotsprings there is a super hardcore road that goes to provincial parks. Take it at night, BUT WATCH FOR PEOPLE WALKING DOGS (evening)... you have no Idea how close I came taking a corner posted at 20kph doing 80kph.

ryan rd. and that backroad most times at night wondeful use highbeams to watch for shadowy ppl and turn em off when u see reflections so u know theres oncomming cars

Went to Mayne Island last year and recalled that there were amazing stretches of road with absolutely no one around. Picturesque island life, reminds me of those village drives in the old Need for Speed games. I drove around the whole island in 30 minutes but the scenery was amazing and not a speck of traffic in a mid-July day. Definitely worth a trip for the drive and the quiet coastal life. Galiano, while nice, by comparison was much worse of a driving island due to there being pretty much just one road that everyone takes.

I drove on the Crows Nest Highway on the weekend back and forth to Osoyoos. (Stayed overnight at Spirit Ridge wine vineyard/resort with groupon)

That was so fun winding back and forth between the mountains. I've definitely learned how to handle my car better and appreciate having a standard transmission. Now I have a greater understanding when it comes to downshifting and up shifting plus I can probably conserve gas a lot better. I barely even had to use my brakes when driving standard. (Yes I'm relatively new)

Even when it was raining heavily up and down the mountains I was able to keep up with my little Suzuki. Sometimes I lose confidence going so fast downhill when the road turns tight, but I've learned so much.

Most fun I've had in a long time. Make sure to have enough gas if you do take the drive. -and I wouldn't recommend this road if your car is too low, there are some serious pot holes.

If anyone is in the Okanagan traveling between Kelowna and Vernon or Kamloops, consider the Westside Road instead of Hwy 97. While the "Posted" limit is 50km in a lot of areas, the fun is taking the twisties a little faster!
Lots of lake views, nice road, lots of narrow twisty bits in the southern 45 km and wider straighter bits in the northern 25km.

Spences bridge where it turns into the number 8 is a good run through all the canyons

This!! Especially since it was repaved a few years ago, Kaslo to New Denver is an absolute joy. Continuous curves, almost too good to be true!

Also Lumby to Needles (east of Vernon) is a nice stretch of road to tie in to the same trip.

Back side of Chilliwack Mt. is a fun little blast. Gotta be careful though, it's narrow, and there are lots of hidden driveways.

I just travelled on Chuckanut Rd, just south of the border off of the I5. I know it's not BC, but for Vancouverites its awefully close. Beautiful drive with trees over the road through a state park. 25mph speed limit (windy stuff with lots of ups and downs).

i find dem so sweet tight curves from the ubc highway heading northbound into beaches start from thde chan center i think they call it not sure cuz i never went to ubc just leavin once from ubc hospital bud suggest smokin up at spanish banks beach so drove in nice curves in.

Port Renfrew Hotel to Sooke, BC - Google Maps

Sooke to Port Renfrew is pretty awesome, the second half from Jordan River to Port Renfrew is a roller coaster with blind corners and lots of s-curves. It can get a bit bumpy in sections but much of it is relatively smooth with minimal traffic.

for me best roads in the west coast during the spring/summer.

Up the 99 from Vancouver -> Whistler -> Lillooett, BC -> Lytton -> Hope
or just Vancouver -> Whistler

Along 0 Avenue from White Rock to Chilliwack then across the Mission Bridge back to Port Moody.

Hope to Osoyoos to Trail is a good 8 hour drive one way.

If you want fairly local, go up ioco and take a right at the four way stop (cant remember the name but it goes to white pine beach) if you follow it past it tur s into some fun twisties, id go at night , noo traffic and theres a few different turn offs you can take for more enjoyment. Its called belcara
