first off, i do believe macs do things better. especially multi tasking. i can have my photo editing software open, my photo gallery(iphoto) my email, and my music open, and it doesnt slow down. My PC on the other hand, though a year old, struggles just opening the picture viewer! 2nd of all, the new 20"imacs are only $1299! That is sooo cheap! I bought my G5 imac 20" a year or 2 ago now, and it cost me over $1700! You can always get a piece of crap computer for $500, but if you compare a similiar spec'd PC with mac, as well as all the things it includes like monitor keyboard, software, value etc, imacs arent that bad in price. PS: Those who want to try a mac, id suggest they go for it. Macs are like civics, super high resale value. Even previous generation imacs and macbooks go for quite a bit. My imac is still worth about $1k, looking on craigslist. |
They do do everything "better", well most things :). And they don't hang as much as a PC would doing similar tasks. I've gone months w/o restarting my laptop, always just closing it and making it go to sleep, it still performs the same each time I open it. Try that with a windows machine. Holding their value, again, is also a plus. PCs and their laptop counterparts diminish in value quickly. I sold my iBook G4 a year after the coreduo laptops were out and it still fetched $700!! For $700 you could've but a much faster PC laptop. You won't go back to a PC once you've started using a Mac :). You'll also turn into fans like us, haha. I thought I never would. The phrase "It just works", will become a part of your vocab when describing the Macs. |
I have a macbook pro and i think it's the biggest piece of shit ever. OS X is slow, clunky and is slow as a mofo. A similarily speced PC (unless you looking at laptops) is no where close in price to an Imac. The argument that macs hold their value long is just plain silly. OF COURSE THEY HAVE HIGHER RESALE VALUE.. THEY ARE MORE EXPENSIVE NEW TO BEGIN WITH. I'd argue most Mac fanboys don't really have a clue what they're talking about when it comes to computers. |
BUT in the end of the day, you can't argue that mines prettier then yours :) settled. |

Ive owned 2 PCs, and operated several. THEM on the other hand, have NOTHING but problems. They crash, and freeze, and just fucking suck. PS: OS X is a beautiful operating system, and though I have had a couple of problems with it (msn crash, sometimes safari crashes, starcraft crashes) I think its an awesome an near flawless OS. Why do you think microsoft is trying SO HARD to immitate it???? And ya... macs are much more sexy then PCs |

Macs are more expensive to begin with but you do have to agree that selling a PC you built yourself within a month of making it you'd probably lose 20%. A mac, maybe 10%. You'll loose a lot more on a PC than a Mac. Let me ask you, why did you choose to buy a macbook pro? |

If you have problems crashing and freezing, then I'm going to say that you really don't have a clue what you're doing with a PC. So let me guess.. your computer got infected with spyware? That's more of a user issue than anything. Dont get me wrong - I love the rabid fanboyism culture that Apple has created. All it means is that Apple could release a white turd and call it iCool and they'd STILL make a shitload of money... which will drive the stock price up more. Mike: I bought it because it sureeeeeee was pretty and because at the time, the price was the same as if I had bought an eq. windows PC laptop. Mac products have just as many flaws as PC products. Off the top of my head - overheating macbook pros (and their fans subsequently dying), bulging batteries (of course.. almost EVERY laptop manu had that problem), defective touchscreens on the itouch, poor design on the G4 laptops, logic boards dying on the G4 laptops, etc Of course, no fanboy is going to admit to it because "Macs are better in every way". |
I agree with the thing being hot though. The macbook pro you arn't going to be using on your lap if you're using photoshop. The bottom gets hot to the touch. I do however love the customer service I get from SFU Microstore which sells and services mac. My old iBook G4 had some blotchy spots with the screen. I took it to get replaced and they did it while I was in class! I also did not need my receipt for the warranty service. All they had to do was look up my serial #. |
lets move this to the offtopic... i hate how the mbp gets so warm/hot... goes up to 65~ when im watching clips in firefox.. .=( |
Use SMC to bring it down then. |
The mac dispute has now been put in here |
theres nothing to dispute. macs rock. plain and simple. they might have the odd flaw, nothing is perfect. Myself, i have rarely had issues with my macs, but I know there are some out there. PCs, on the other hand are just a bundle of problems, and sloppy OS and machinery. |

Jordan got a 3 fan stand from crystal mall and says his temps go down 5-10 degrees when its plugged in... Does anyone else use an additional/external fan? |
oh wow.... |
I don't usually turn on SMC unless the temps hit over 60 celsius. When it gets that hot I turn it on and it brings it right down into the 50s. If i'm running what you're running, ahd have SMC on, my temps are under 40 celsius. The fan is at 4000 rpm though. For me, under 60 is fine. When it hits over 60 I turn it on or it usually kicks in pretty soon. I like to hit it before it kicks in, lol. I'm not using an external fan either. Just make sure you're using it on a flat service. Best air flow. These things do get hot :). The mbp that is. Kwazy are you on a mbp? |
It's a good idea to get an external fan. It will help especially for mbp Quote:

so, they are still more sloppy manufactured, and cant touch macs in quality. |
OSx just uses them a bit better. PCs can run well too if the OS is configured properly. |

On the PC end, it's all consumer choice. The difference with Mac is they cost more, hardware isn't upgradeable, you’re stuck with performance, but they look nice and function right out of the box. STD safe too. Stop kissing Apples ass, they both have +/-'s |

OMFG.. steve jobs touched it! It's worth 2x more now! God you're a mac twit and you dont even realize it. |
I think mc25 is just trying to find the slightest reason he can to justify his purchase. If he never used Windows recently, I don't blame him for being mislead about it. But he did so obviously he knows how stable it is... unless he uses Windows 98. How many Windows users still get viruses and crashes? |
Why do you think the price can vary by 100% or more for the same spec ram sticks? Why do you think the same type of motherboards can vary 200-300% in price? After all, any board you can drop a certain chip into is as good as any other board, right? Get your head out of your ass. There's a wide range in quality of components, and the QUALITY ones that Macs and high-end PCs use are a far cry from the parts used in a cheap-ass $300 starter PC. |
