That would be HUGE and inconvenient.

Flash writing > DVD writing.

Need a 1ds to complete a swimsuit calendar w proceeds to charity, willing to pay a realistic value for a camera model that came out over 10 years ago, even if it has 5,000 shutter actuations, it only has a resale value odf so much.
Like a fine automobile that listed in 1992 for a 100,000 dollars is now selling for 5,000 obo. We are talking a S Class mercedes 430. It has dropped 95,000 !

A 1Ds came out new with a price tag of 4900.00 and it has 50,000 shutter actuations with some signs of wear. I think $800.00 for a 1Ds 11.1 is a very fair price to pay, and 1200.00 for a 16.7 megapixel is very fair.
I will have cash around the 10th or 11th of April.
If you want to take a Cash deal for your 1Ds , then let me know, i will put it to good use, i do not buy cheap and resell on ebay ! I am a retired photographer needing equipment to come out of retirement for charity projects.
Look at it this way! If you can part with your camera for the price i am offering, you will be contributing to some needy charities !
Sincerely !
Nigel

Insanity. Talking down to photographers like they don’t know what their camera’s value is borders on absurd.

Current market value in Canada for a 1Ds is around $1500 to $2000 depending on condition. A 1Ds Mk.II is around $3500 to $4200.

Both were $8000 CDN new (plus tax and shipping) and the 1Ds did not come out ten years ago. It was released in 2003.

Charity or not, people don't give $1000 or in the case of the 1Ds Mk.II $3000 away.

You see that is the problem with most in the photographic industry, they sell you goods at top dollar, and when you want to trade up to the newest model, they offer you less than 40% of what you paid, and you pay extra for the new camera, so, don't tell me that i am insane, i have been photographing for 40 years, and i have seen it all.

The 1Ds is just an upgrade from the 1D, and it was out in the early 1990's, i am sorry, but the marketing of Canon continues to charge the cost of importing thier camers into Canada, and we still pay a lot more than U.S. customers pay for the same Camera, ie; 1Ds 21.megapixels in the US. is $7900.00, in Canada it is 9,990.00, why? When are dollar is worht as much or more ! Don't be arrogant ! I am not asking anyone to be a fool and doubt their value , but consider this , in Britain the 1Ds 11.1 megapixel is considered Obsolete. The 1Ds is = to Nikon D200 , and the market dropped out on it, and you can get a D200 for 950.00, why is $800.00 considered "Insanity" ? You my friend would do better if you Had a warm heart!

dub.dub 04-03-2008 09:29 PM

lowest i got is 1.8 but that's on a 50mm only...

i'll go with the f/4 but hope IS will help me through and bump up the ISO

77civic1200 04-03-2008 10:47 PM

I'll be there after work, with a dslr, but only because I don't have a point and shoot.

Maybe I should just use auto mode? pfffft ha ha

dub.dub 04-04-2008 11:45 PM

i decided to be lazy and use my P&S again after i charged my DSLR batteries over night... took some pics when i got there with my P&S and it ran out of batteries...

^ maybe this will help?

Wired posted a tutorial on installing a custom firmware for Canon cameras utilizing a DIGIC II or III processor that adds or enhances features never before available.

Quote:

Digital cameras have powers beyond what is immediately available to the user. On a standard Canon, for example, the fastest shutter speed option offered is 1/1,600 second, but the hardware can handle much more than that -- up to 1/60,000 of a second.

CHDK, the Canon Hacker's Development Kit, is an open-source software project that can be loaded on cameras using Canon's DIGIC II or DIGIC III firmware platforms. It unleashes new features including RAW file format, live histogram display, a battery readout, and the ability to run scripted actions on a camera.

CHDK does not replace the existing firmware on your Canon, so the process is completely reversible. The existing firmware stays intact, while the CHDK software is loaded on demand from an SD card.

The list of cameras supported are here.
Full tutorial here.

^ wow thanks. i'll take a look :) i hate how the battery notification comes up and before you know it, it dies on you.

Levitron 04-10-2008 12:01 AM

Damn, here's where I wish I had bought that SD1000 :( My SX100 isn't hacked yet!

ColinK 04-10-2008 07:33 AM

you gonna try it dub.dub? I think I'm going to. Being able to shoot raw and have battery life shown would be SO awesome!

bikerx 04-10-2008 10:13 AM

i just did the hack on my sd1000 its pretty sick who needs a DSLR now hawhawhaw. theres some pretty cool options on it. well worth trying out. if you follow the steps and lock the card it will auto boot the firmware each time. if you don't ... wel you have to reload it each time.

dspirit79 04-10-2008 03:05 PM

Hmmm... I tried this and I can't seem to open my RAW file. Anyone else have this problem?

bikerx 04-10-2008 03:16 PM

yeah i can't open the raw. but i don't really mind because i use lightroom and its basically making any file a raw :)

dspirit79 04-10-2008 03:20 PM

Err... how does that logic work?

Do you bother to save the RAW data anyway then?

Soundy 04-10-2008 05:42 PM

You can't "make" other file formats into RAW. RAW files are exactly what the name suggests: the raw data from the sensor, unprocessed. Converting to any almost any other format, even TIFF, involves data loss. You can't take a JPG out of your camera and "make" it a RAW file.

dspirit79 04-10-2008 06:27 PM

That's what I'm thinking.

But it does allow you to collect RAW data, I just can't convert and open a file. Oh well, if you figure it out Jordan, let me know.

Soundy 04-10-2008 06:34 PM

You may need an update... most manufacturers' RAW formats change with each new camera generation, which means most RAW-capable software needs an update.

You could also try IrfanView - the plugins for it should support the newest Canon RAW format.

bikerx 04-10-2008 10:34 PM

yeah i have the "raw" data but ... opening it is another story... i'll try figuring it out after my finals

ColinK 04-10-2008 10:49 PM

whats the file extension?
