5D MK3 Officially announced. Doesn't seem to wow me anymore. :/

Yay, a 5Dm2 that can focus on moving things.. Given the price it's commanding ( $500 more than the D800), this is the camera that 5dm2 should have been, back in 2008.

I like everything released about the 5D3... except the price. Its got everything I want in a flexible DSLR without features that I don't really need. Hopefully the price will come down a bit in time. Until then, i'm starting a swear jar for it!

why would anyone want the new ST transmitter unless they had a bunch of 600's ... maybe an RF adapter to make it work with all the pre-580exii models ...

LightRoom 4 is official! $149 US , not bad. (i think $79 to upgrade.)

I need some help with post processing. I am trying to center an image for printing. I would like Planet Hollywood centered in this image. It is off center because the location where I shot this image was not directly across from the hotel. I don't want to crop the image because it will mess with the composition of the image so figure I can stretch the image from the right side until the Planet Hollywood hotel is perfectly center. Can that be done in Lightroom?

First you need to fix the tilt, but no, you cannot do such a thing in Lightroom. I think it's fine where it is, personally.

Sorry to vent but.... holy freakin' shit! I've been struggling trying to balance my GoPro with Battery BacPac on my Flycam nano for a week straight and I still cannot get it perfectly balanced. I've read so many articles and watched a bunch of videos online and still no dice. I've tried to balance it many ways. Adding weights to the top and/or bottom, removing weights to the top and/or bottom, sliding them in and out, sliding the center piece up and down, adjusting the stage mounting the camera in different positions. The possibilities go on and go on but the results are the same. Cannot balance.

If I balance it horizontally, it just fails vertically and vice versa. So annoying! If I don't get this thing figured out by the 18th I'm selling it. I even made a sweet ass comfy handle other then the bullshit one that originally came with it.

I'm sure what I'm about to say has nothing to do with it but... cheap shit, you get what you pay for I guess. Time to bend over backwards and cough it up for Steadicam Merlin. Although I'm sure that will fail as well as the GoPro is super light.

Why don't you make an "+" bracket of sorts so you can distribute the weight further from the center? I imagine its because the gopro is so compact, it acts like a point source weight and its difficult to distinguish it's center of mass.

Thanks Richard, I'll have to look into that but for now I'm still leaning towards selling it. Just a bit frustrated and disappointed with it I guess.

I still can't balance this thing correctly. The test footage is not that great either. I've had better results with a makeshift handle that I made for the GoPro. I might just use that instead. We'll see. I still want to make this thing work though :(

So I made a DIY softbox today. $10 led desk lamp and a $6 photo frame from Ikea, and a piece of tracing paper. Not too bad, I'll have to play with it more. It'll mainly be used for food photography.

Not much of a test but I think I got it.


I'm holding the Flycam Nano by the handle with one hand in the first clip. After the cross dissolve transition thingy, I'm holding the stabilizer with two hands. One on the handle and three fingers right under the gimbal with the other (thumb, index and middle finger)

You can see the shadow of me holding the camera in the corner so you guys compare the clips and let me know if there is any camera shake and if its smooth.

Nice one Euro! Will be cool to see the results that you will be getting from this! With better subject matter of course. What do you want to shoot with the setup? Car shows n stuff?

As it turns out, LR4 was only $69 on student/staff discount. I got a copy using my wife's staff discount. :D

Initial impression is pretty good. The overall speed seems a tiny bit faster when loading my library side-by-side with LR3.

The most notable changes are all in the develop section. In LR4, you get things like highlight, shadow, whites and blacks now all as independent options right after exposure and contrast.

The noise reduction algorithm seems a bit changed. Now it gets more of a brushed effect.

I like the "Map" function. All the pics with geo-tagging can be nicely organized.

That's all for now. Only played around for the last hour or so. So far so good.

Also, LR seems to be handling video files much better. But I think I will stick with my FinalCut for now... :fuckyea:

Hey! Thanks! Yea, with a better subject and some post production it can turn out quite well. Yes, I'll be using this at little Revscene meets. I'm planning on trying this thing out at the upcoming RS Spring 2012 meet and my DIY slider cam as well! So I'll see how it all turns out. Hopefully its not a bust. But its all for fun so love it or not, I'll have a blast as its all a learning experience. :)

I'll do a comparison with my U shaped camera handle and see what it looks like. However, I'll have to twist my wrist to get more of a Flycam Nano effect with that thing hah.

I'll still be using my ski pole for the GoPro when it comes to snowboarding though :) Along with the GoPro helmet mount.

Oh shiiiet... 5DmkIII makes my 5DmkII feel so old and antiquated....image quality is stunning.

Sooooo.... what was your final verdict? 5DmkIII or D800...?

No final verdict...the D800's haven't come in yet. I may have one to play with this weekend.
