There is a 50mm 1.0 for sale here in edmonton right now but the guy wants $4k. I did some research on it and the biggest draw back is the fact that if anything goes wrong with it then you are SOL for any service from Canon. There may be possibility of getting it fixed but most likely you are looking at sending it to Japan. But then again for $2500 I would probably consider it for novelty sake. It does have some cool bokeh and can make some neat night photos.

My colleague's dad, a soon-to-retire pro-photog is selling his entire Canon equipments and moving to lighter Leica setup. I was gonna pick up a 5D MKII for some (relatively) cheap movie setup from him and this lens caught my eye and arm (it's humongous and weight at least 2lb).

He's asking 2.5k (he originally paid over 4k back in the early 90s according to the receipt :ahwow:) if I get it with the 5D. But reviews on the internet seems to be rather negative about this particular model. Admittedly, I'm a gearwhore, but I don't really want a 2.5k crappy lens as it's almost as much as other great/rare lenses like Nikon Noct.

Opinions?

Depends on what you think is worth it. The bokeh is unique. I've never seen that sort of bokeh from any other Canon lens.

On the other hand, sharpness all around is awful so it's useless for anything but that sort of portrait.

IMO really, really not worth $2.5k. It's such a specialized lens...not one you'd use often, I'd say.

our film buff members were bugging me to create a "Film" forum, which i did, and guess whose store they're talking about?

E-6 Kits In Canada (YAY!)

Senna4ever 11-18-2012 11:25 AM

^^^ :D

I'll see what we can do about pricing. The discrepancy between US & Canadian pricing is really stupid sometimes. This is partly because Canadian distributers' pricing often is close to US retail.

A question for photographers and videographers,

What inspires you to capture and/or create the images or video that you do? What inspires you to use your camera as much as possible?

Side note: is videography the correct word to use for someone who captures video digitally? I'm familiar with cinematography but does that only apply to film or digital media as well?

N.V.M. 11-23-2012 04:21 PM

there was a Nikon D3 and other gears stolen and i'm posting this because you don't see a lot of 600mm lenses around, so if you see one for sale it should really stand out and could be this guy's.

lol fuck whats a 600mm worth?

Senna4ever 11-24-2012 06:31 AM

The real question is why did he leave the gear in the car?? I hope he had insurance.

They are around $10,000 MSRP.

LiquidTurbo 11-24-2012 05:14 PM

What's the best way to get camera insurance?

Mines covered under my home insurance, had to pay a little extra ($30?) to top up the coverage in that area, but I can literally forget my gear on a bench somewhere and its covered.

^^^ i heard the "M" is actually decent with an EF lens, and use the touchscreen to focus on a specific point.

I'm not sure. I'll have to wait and see. I already emailed and currently waiting for a response. I'm sure they will ignore the email and just remove the photograph. I would like to be compensated for the unauthorized use of my work but knowing my luck it won't happen. It's going to be a cold Christmas this year :(

-EuroRSN- 12-02-2012 01:04 PM

dude take screen shots and document everything. Scare the guy with possible legal actions and demand compensation. If he doesn't straight up take legal actions! Win win regardless :) don't back down..
