we need more information first. what's your iso? are you shooting raw? if so, are you boosting the exposure in camera raw?

Hondaracer 01-29-2013 07:36 PM

shooting raw using AV mode mainly

basically i just tossed my camera on my tripod and setup in the house, in shots like those im unsure as to where to set my Fstop.. ISO is auto

so like on that second pic according to lightroom:

ISO 5000
18mm
F/11
1/40 Sec

and yea.. i started using my level on my tripod after that lol

sunny_j 01-29-2013 07:49 PM

iso5000 is way too high. you need to disable auto iso (iso100-400 is relatively noise free on some cameras), light your scene properly or get a tripod and drag your shutter.

Hondaracer 01-29-2013 08:26 PM

ahh kk yea, excuse my ignorance but i didnt actually think you could adjust ISO in AV mode

:okay:

this changes everything :ilied:

If you take it off Auto ISO, then even in AV mode, it will allow you to choose your ISO, then will adjust your shutter speed accordingly. However, with the same amount of lighting, you will end up needing a tripod as your shutter speed will be very slow.

I feel like some of those shots in the kitchen could use more lighting - like the dark face of that island, plus underneath all those cabinets, all seem too dark. Are there lights under the cabinets? Are there lights in the adjacent room that could throw more light onto the kitchen?

It would seem to be more inviting to me.

LiquidTurbo 01-29-2013 11:20 PM

Like I said before, you need to hire me. :troll:

Matsuda 01-29-2013 11:24 PM

or me, I'd totally put a car in that kitchen

Razor Ramon HG 01-30-2013 04:15 AM

How often do you guys bring your cameras out?

Totally regretted not bringing mine out when I went out earlier.. missed some nice shots :(

Senna4ever 01-30-2013 08:00 AM

I always have a camera with me - whether it's my iPhone5, P&S or 5DmkIII.

That does look pretty neat. Tempted to order it for my Nex. Not sure how I'll feel about hanging my 7D off it though.

Is there a simple way to do noise reduction in PS like there is in LR?

EDIT: Nevermind, found the noise reduction tool in CR.

For people who use viewfinders, do you compose with your left or right eye? I naturally use my left, but have been noticing a lot of photographers use their right.

I think the majority of people are right handed, and right eye dominant. I've actually met a guy who's right handed, but left eye dominant - and he would shoot (rifles) using a right handed grip, but put his left eye up to the sight/scope - probably the same thing you are.

Boostslut 02-05-2013 01:09 PM

I use my right eye, but always have my left eye open to notice other things that are going on around me.

77civic1200 02-05-2013 05:46 PM

I use my left, I see advantages of using your right eye, but I just cant make the switch

does anyone have a good suggestion for a wireless remote for a 5d2?

Hondaracer 02-06-2013 09:19 AM

I don't get why they wouldn't put a 2nd wireless remote sensor on the back of the camera..

Anyways, anyone got any pointers for shooting star tails? I'm going to my cabin up near kamloops and it looks like Its going to be clear so going to try and get some star shots

I had an idea that we have a fire pit near the edge of the lake, would it work if I walked out into the middle of the lake with a tripod and faced the camera towards the fire/tree line/Sky would I be able to get the light of the fire as well as the stars? Any settings in terms of ISO and Exposure for that?

Also in doing star tails where do you focus? I have the kit lense and 50mm which would be best?
