Nope, sorry, I don't do sales unfortunately, and we don't stock the low end lenses. Besides, that would be below cost!

When I did sales, I did give discounts to RS members though, but now I have no jurisdiction in that area, unfortunately.

is it important to register your products with Canon? are there any benefits?

is simply writing down your serial numbers enough?

Hondaracer - wait until Futureshop has its Boxing Day sale. The 50mm 1.8 usually sells for $99.

Senna - how much do you guys sell the ST E3-RT controller?

So today I was out at the van dusen gardens shooting Christmas lights, shooting all in RAW for the first time

Once I got home I tossed them all into Lightroom and I didn't think the pictures turned out all that great, however they looked much better once exported into JPEG, is this normal?

Yes, because with JPEG's, the camera has dome the processing of the files for you. With RAW, you have to process the files yourself to make them look how you want them to look.

Did your LR applied any setting when exporting? It should almost identical if none were made. Also, what viewer are you using? Some photo viewer have very different ways handling RAW as compared to LR. While they can decode it, the color/rendition might be completely off.

Can't say for sure. (cause it was a pkg price for the lens, 5D2 and whole bunch of other stuffs) But I got a pretty sweet sweet deal as a package. I might ultimately keep the lens if I like it. But for now, the idea is to bring it back to China and flip it.

The seller sent the 5D2 away for some minor repair and calibration/cleaning with CPS. I'm waiting the 5D2 to be back. I will post some shots when I get it.

So I guess what I'm seeing is when Lightroom "snaps" to to the true representation of raw? The initial preview looks clearer/sharper than when the True raw image kind of pops it looks much more washed out

Do you guys have a set of adjustments that all of your photos go through as they are imported/exported or do you guys adjust them on an individual basis?

What you're seeing is the JPEG file that is embedded in the RAW file.

I do each file individually, but I do have custom camera profiles that I made for my 5DmkIII, 5DmkII & 1DX in various lighting situations for accurate colour. I will apply that to multiple images at once if they have been shot in the same lighting.

So is it an acceptable process to simply convert raw to jpeg as your final product? Or should you be trying to make the raw look the best it can be before exporting? I guess it depends on the level of quality your looking for? I'm just trying to get a feel for RAW and Lightroom

I dunno, maybe it's me, but I was exposed to Photoshop YEARS before LR, and could never figure out how the import and cataloging worked on LR...

PS has a built-in RAW editor that i found much easier to use as well.

Can someone briefly point-form advantages of LR?

If you just convert RAW to JPEG without any adjustments, then you might as well shoot JPEG.

I'm not sure about the raw editor in PS as I only export to PS once I'm done on LR, but what I like about LR is its ability to mass apply setting/preset onto a whole bunch of pics.

I.E: Say I have a set of pics that were taken at one location/time. I could set a same setting of WB/lens profile/sharpness...etc throughout the set before going into a fine detailing of each shot. And for under $100 for the full version, it's a no-brainer.
