^So I tried Pho Vinh and it was the best pho I've had so far.

I've always pride myself of knowing where the best pho noodle houses are, but man was I misinformed. I thought pho thai hoa in Vancouver was the best but now I have a new favorite place.

I got my usual rare beef noodle soup. The portions of beef slices aren't as generous as Pho Tam, but the soup at pho vinh is AMAZING. I liked the noodles they used too as their thinner in width than other places. The lady who might be the owner was very nice as well as she recognized I wasn't a regular.

To give this review some perspective, I rate the following pho restuarants like this:

Pho Vinh > Pho thai hoa > Pho Town > Bao Chao > Thai Son > Pho Van > Vietnamese > Pho Tan > Pho Quyen

I've also been to some other ones but it's not really worth mentioning and I base this reiveiw on the soup base.

Yeah, the only bad thing about Pho Vinh is it's in Surrey. I live in Vancouver.

The drive back from Surrey always sucks balls because it takes forever to get on the highway. Going to Surrey isn't as bad of a problem. When I went the other day, I was caught without my seatbelt on. The cop who drove next to me just yelled accross the window. Phew.

Armind 05-14-2009 07:52 AM

^ Wow, so you traveled all the way from Vancouver just to try out PV? T_T

As far as it is, you should try it only if you're in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there but I have to admit, it is good and you should definitely try the Vietnamese coffee.

ShanghaiKid 05-25-2009 04:59 PM

omggg butter beef. SO GOOD.

Chestnut 05-25-2009 08:50 PM

Pho 101 just opened up on Hastings right beside Sushi Town.

I tired the house special with filet mignon, it was really good. The meat just melts in your mouth.

LIKE BUTTA!!!

ShanghaiKid 05-25-2009 09:05 PM

soooo.... back from pho vinh in surrey...

dukes was right, not really worth the drive unless you're from the area

got there and the restaurant was empty (given the hype from this thread, thought there'd be atleast a few tables), but that didn't stop me from trying it out

I was being typical and got the basic #1 with spring roll and a ice coffee, friends got the spicy soup based pho, etc.

Generally the only thing to really stand out for me was the soup base. It was relatively clear and very tasty compared to most pho places in the GVRD. Spring roll was a little overfried but otherwise decent (although small), and the coffee was just...well, coffee :P (dissapointed i didn't get to watch it filter and mix by myself though :( ).

Overall, my friends and I agree that the soup is worth going for, as long as you're in the area - but its being given too much credit from all the hype.

While there are some die-hard Pho Vinh lovers here, I like the food and all, but it's just too far for me. I found the quality of noodles and beef were pretty good and the soup is great.

The coffee, not sure what to say about your experience but when I had the coffee that one time, it was awesome. But all in all, I would not go out of my way to go there unless I'm in the area.
