Death2Theft 12-16-2008 09:43 PM

Hey, maybe you folks can help me... my wife went for her first pho when she was in Calgary a few months ago, and had some sort of rice-curry-chicken pho that she just loved. She's been wanting to find a place out here that has something similar. We tried Pho Hoa, and it was good, but they didn't have the particular soup she wanted. Any suggestions?

Hmm...I've never heard of such a dish before. A rice-curry chicken pho? That is new to me and it has me befuddled. Would like to know where this is served! :)

Soundy 12-17-2008 08:59 AM

Sorry... coconut-curry. She had the straight-up chicken pho yesterday, said it was like that, but with a coconut-curry broth.

Sounds pretty damn yummy, I agree. I had the hot'n'sour seafood pho, that was pretty awesome too!

I went to a good place on some street... all i know is there is a gas station, a italian resteeraunt accross the street, and i think a dry cleaner? It was around rupert street.

thai son richmond is in garden city plaza (where the self-washing car place is)
its upstairs on the right side of the mall if you're coming in from garden city

Closest major intersection would be Fraser and King Edward, on the north side of Fraser.

chr1s 12-18-2008 04:45 AM

Song Huong on Nanaimo and First. I'm going there soon! Yummy

willystyle 12-19-2008 05:24 PM

^ Besides their Bun Bo Hue, what else is so special about Song Huong?

Everything else there tastes average to me, especially their Vermicelli noodles, it's below par.

Vansterdam 12-20-2008 05:02 AM

^ i agree their bun bo hue keeps me going back lol

I went to Vietnamese Restaurant today...

It was good. I have the house pho special and it was tasty and the spring rolls. Everything I ate was good and the service was very friendly.

And yes, the name of the restaurant is vietnamese restaurant.

Yes just south of King Ed on the east side. It is between the butcher's shop and an Ethiopian place. It also has a huge blue sign that says "Vietnamese Restaurant" and they take visa, master, debit, cash.

Thai Hang

corner of E hastings and lakewood dr in east van

$6.50 for large pho dat biet

comes with free desert too at the end.

willystyle 12-20-2008 10:34 PM

^ Yah I've been going to that place quite regularly in the past few years. They have really good Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup and they make really good rice dishes and vermicelli bowl noodles as well. Their Pho is average, but everything else is pretty good. Im a huge fan of their salad rolls.
