DAMNIT.... my motor's fucked up.
to quote myself on othe forum:
"I drove home from a friends house.... stoped on my street. noticed my battery was at 10, so i reved it up to 4 grand lightly. It blew a shit load of smoke out. So i reved it a bit more...... Too much smoke i stopped there, poped the hood, and it sounds like somethng is loose in the engine. It sounds like crap etc. ****, this is not what i need right now Well, at least i had an appointment at Progressive tomorrow anyways
I don't understand what i did to it.
One thing after another. Once i get the problem fixed, the cars going on the market, and it's time for a better condition first or cheap 2nd gen."

Honestly though, if your just looking for power, the best upgrade for you would be to buy a decent Turbo 2...

Haha, right on Coal, Tercel's rock!!!
Oh yeah, one thing I have noticed since getting here to Kamloops is I have seen like 4 different Stealth TT's here, maybe 5, and loops is about the same size as Nanaimo, but I have only seen 1 rx7 and it was a stock GSL SE....no wait, 2 7's, there was a white TII Vert as well.
Anyways.....check back lata..
cheers

Does anyone know if theres any special things you have to do to install an aftermarket tachometer on a Rotary motor. Has anyone done this to their RX-7?

When upgrading the stock exhaust system on 2nd gen Rx7's, be wary of this little tidbit of information:
2nd gen's are equipped with "Auxiliary" ports. Basically, at 3800 RPM, 2 additional intake ports are opened and the secondary injectors start firing. The total duty cycle of all 4 injectors equals the duty cycle of the 2 primaries at 3799 rpm. You aren't getting more fuel, you're getting better fuel atomization. It feels somewhat like a "mini vtec".. Anyway, on the Series 4 Rx7's (86-88), these ports are opened by back pressure through the exhaust. If you buy a header that does not have a 'split air pipe' to open these ports, you will actually be LOSING power. 89-92 FC's were equipped with electronically controlled Aux ports.
If money was no object on my FC and I wanted to keep it stock, this would be exactly what I'd get:
Full racing beat "road race" system. (RB system has Split air pipe)
custom 3" k&n cold air intake in the brake ducting
Upgraded oil cooler
Walbro 255lph fuel pump / upgraded fuel pressure regulator
Koyo Radiator
S-AFC2 (or microtech$$$$$)
Mild bridge port on aux ports
2x720cc secondary injectors
MSD Coils/Ignitors
NGK BUR7EQ / BUR9EQ Plugs
NGK Wires
Streetable power before 3800, upgraded ports/flow above 3800 for race applications. Probably around 200 HP if tuned correctly

but where is the point when it becomes a waste on a N/a ?
Bridge and Peripheral port engines tend to have shorter lives then 13BT's.. So longevity needs to be factored too.
which is my reason for leaving the world of natural aspiration far behind. When with a turbo you can be at 200rwhp stock (S5) throw $500 or so at it, and be over 225 HP. Just a lot more bang for buck with turbo engines.
Btw, its not a horrible thing with the 6/5th ports on a n/a... just tap a line off the air pump hose into the ACV, and boom, full activation of AUX ports. Or do what some people do, wire them open. Simple shit.

A header provides a good power increase for cheap, but not much else will add the same bang for the buck. Everything on that big list except for the road race exhaust will add very little power.

Being a waste of money on an NA is a matter of what you want out of your car. If your happy having something that handles awesome but really isn't all that fast in a straight line then sinking money into an NA (even for HP mods) isn't really that big of a waste. It becomes a big waste of money though if you want a sports car that handles good and can go fast in a straight line (say faster then 14.0 in 1/4 is your goal). Once you get to the point of wanting something that pins you in the seat then putting any money into an NA is a waste. Much easier to do it turbo like James said. Remember, it takes a nicely modded NA to run EVEN with a STOCK TII, except in the corners which really comes down more to the driver.
And Phroot, you do any kind of Bridgeporting on your motor and you can kiss its lifespan goodbye, so unless you can afford to be buying motors every 2 years or so stay away from Bridgeports, large streetports are your friend if you want some porting done with streetable power and still keep most of your reliability.

That's why I suggested a bridge on the AUX ports, you're only putting extra stress on the engine when you're flooring it anyway.
And wiring the ports open has proven to increase low rpm hesitation and torque through the lower power bands.

Also, proven? Ever done it?

Haha, Sunfire with muffler....BURN!
I agree with Jeff on this, it does not add any hesitation, just lowers your low end TQ a little. In otherwords yes moving your powerband up a bit higher. And having a bridge port on the Aux ports only would still cause extra wear/tear on your motor wether at idle or WOT. The seals are still going over thos bridges no matter what throttle your at. A bridgeport is a bridgeport, its gonna kill your motor faster wether you like it or not.
