your talking to jason hes located in the royal oak area i drove his car back from vancouver with that engine in it so it does runs but not great it was a hard trip

RZ350 11-23-2004 06:44 AM

How badly was it overheated? Does it now leak oil? Any idea on the compression? Can it be heard running? If it's in Royal Oak then I am very very interested.

Paradox 11-25-2004 10:05 PM

ok guys. i got Gregs Rx today (thanks greg!) which has no stereo in it, and im a cheap bastard for now, thinkin' of putting in my stock deck from my first 85 Rx7

trouble is i dont have a clue which wires are which coming from the harness, looks like the deck was still running off the original power/ground/antenna wires but lengethed, so essentially what i need to know is what colored wires do what?

i found this link whick is kind of handy, atleast for the back of the stock deck

http://www.jimrothe.com/mazda/rx7stereo/index.html

any suggestions?

DC450 11-25-2004 11:45 PM

I Put my stereo in blind when i did my last one. As long as you can figure out the stereo wires coming from the deck you'll be alright, just some trial and error with a multimeter. Check out www.rx7forum.com they have vast amounts of knowledge.. I'm not up to speed on the 1st gen stereos

Good luck
Evan

Another bump for the price you slackers! Also does anyone have any 6-port intake manifolds they'll get rid of cheap?

good choice, doesnt disrupt wieght distrubution, and itll run an 11 in a FD in near stock trim

Paradox 11-28-2004 08:07 PM

woot, got stereo working in the Rex, and new starter in.

question for the first gen guys, about how many miles do you get to a tank? gas gauge doesnt work in mine, Greg said its good to about 300k, i just want to be sure...

RZ350 11-29-2004 10:08 AM

Steering is in! Woot! I can actually kinda see my car getting on the road again! All I need to do is mount the swaybar, engine and do some more welding. Although I'm looking at maybe slotting the holes in the subframe and moving the whole deal back about 1/2".

why? I thought 13B is really light...

Lemon 11-29-2004 11:48 AM

it is, but so is an ellis plus its more reliable and just as if not more ultimate potential *ducks flying apex seals*

RZ350 11-29-2004 03:58 PM

Not really a fan of the V8. It's not just something against pistons, it's just that I don't really like people shoving american motors into japanese cars and vice versa. No doubt the car is fast, but I'm betting it doesn't handle exceptionally well. Lets be honest, I'd say that most people buy an RX-7 for the handling. If they wanted stupid fast they could have done it for much cheaper with a domestic, but it still wouldn't handle.

actually with that swap the car keeps its 50/50 wieght distubution so it will still handle awsome

I believe you will find that most modern literature seems to indicated that a rearward weight bias is more favorable then a true 50/50. That and no doubt the measurements on this car were taken with a full tank of gas/tire/jack, meaning it could have a very significant forward weight bias when run in any sort of performance driving situation. Honestly even with the 13B once you start removing interior components you run into weight bias issues (at least with a 1st gen). Long story short: I don't like it. It wouldn't be the fastest way to get that chassis around a track, and working around that engine would be a pain in the ass.

ill agree there

91TII 11-30-2004 06:45 PM

I'd still rather have the REW engine in there....something very wrong about a V8 going into an RX7....keep piston engines in piston cars and Rotary engines in Rotor cars (except the Datsun 510, that car was meant to have a rotary in it).

Lemon 11-30-2004 08:10 PM

i personally wouldnt do the swap either, but i can see the appeal, now an ellis in a e36 3 SERIES MMMMMMMMMM

RZ350 11-30-2004 08:10 PM

I think I'd be all about a rotary swapped super-7 kit car! Something like the Locost-7, supercharged 12A. MMMMMMMMMMM 1300 Lbs with driver and 250 HP! If we're dreaming we might as well dream big. That car would pretty much just "do it" for me. A close second would be a rotary swapped Miata, the way it was supposed to be; but with a turbo.
