Are you sending Rx-7 Specialties a core for that price? Looks like a good deal to me. I think I know where I'm going to look for my motor.

EDIT: 8===D !!!

Yeah in Calgary what you do is pay $480 up front, they put you on list and then build engine, then ship it over. You take new core off skid and put your old one on it and send it back for your $480 refund. So that price I said is with sending my core back. Right now there is a 1 month wait list, he said it takes him about 2 days to build an engine, 2 or 3 days shipping (only $110 to the island). It is wicked, if I was to get used housings I would save $225 I think off that price. And porting costs around $200 I think.

I thought progressive is not rip off...
Staff Auto charges approx $8000+ for street port.

I dunno, I have only looked into 2 places, just that the place in Cal. is only 2450 shipping included for an engine with a bigger port job done and new housings and such, so I assume that Progressive is overcharging, I could be wrong (as I so often am).

There are so many variables when building an engine that prices will range all over the board. I am guessing that RX-7 specialties is building so many engines that they can offer deep discounts on the cost of the internal parts, or just using cheaper internal components on the whole. But there is always trade off's like if you have problems how easy is it going to be to deal with a company in calgary when you have a problem with an engine in a car on the island. Just my .02

Hey im kinda back , no rx7 any more though.

omg $8000!!! wtf is up with that. Maybe on a 3rd gen but still thats way way to high. Hell a street port usually doesnt cost more then $100 on top of your rebuild price. That price must be for a engine that they already have street ported and waiting to be installed. I dont think thats with taking in your engine and getting that worked on.

You can rebuild your own engine for less then $1000 in parts so ya wtf lol.

Also a plus to going to a local shop (even though its more $) is that if anything goes wrong you can take it back to them and most places usually offer some warrenty.

Also what the hell are upgraded rotors?? 3mm ones on a n/a ?? or do they mean upgraded from your old broken ones . Do u get like a 60 day warrenty or what is it?? ask both places and see if the extra money is worth the warrenty, if its a better one.

Yeah, good idea on asking about warranty stuff....forgot all about that.

The only thing is that I cannot really afford to pay over $1000 more for pretty much the exact same engine, only way I would do it is if the warranty was for an amazingly long period of time or something, it would have to be something pretty special for me to pay that much more.

And one bonus for me is I just found out there is a guy who worked for Mazda for 10 years and has rotary training and has done lots of work on them and stuff, only about a 30-40 second drive from my house, or like 5-10 minutes walking! So any problems (unless it blows for some reason :P ) will be easily fixable not far away.

Thanks for reminding me about warranty stuff.

later

Ok, I HAVE to post this place. It almost seems to damn good to be true!!!

http://jspecautosports.com

They sell JSPEC engines with between 30,000-50,000km on them. Compression tested and leak tested. Engine come FULLY dressed and includes the following (for a 87-91 13BT):

MOTOR
-Block -Intake Manifold -Complete Head -Sensors -Exhaust Manifold -Fuel Rail -Injectors -Throttle Body -Distributor -Headers -Alternator -Starter -Ignition Wires -A/C Compressor -Power Steering Pump

TRANSMISSION
5 Speed Manuel or Automatic Transmission
- With Clutch & Flywheel

ECU (COMPUTER)
OBD0, OBD1 or OBD2

FREE!!!
- Drive Shafts
- OEM Engine Mounts
- Half Shaft
- Wiring Harness (Cut as it exists th car)

All engines have a seperate list of parts, some come with certain parts, come without, but this list is the main stuff that comes with pretty much EVERY engine from there. Now here is the amazing part.... the Cost to get this and shipped to your house is around $1800 Canadian taxes not included! All I would need is new Intercooler and fuel pump! So it looks as though I may have found a solution to my toasted engine....

Now if anyone has any info about these guys if you've dealt with them or anything let me know, good or bad. I know it sounds to good to be true, but I am looking into it right now, I will get back to you all with details. Later.

-Justin

yeah a whole hour of whoreing gone

I will keep the red car now.. I put to much money into it to see it go and its too fun and suits me well... I just needed to get rid of those "mustang rims"

I think I will go pick up one of those turbo engines that Justin is getting there and put it in my car.. if my car had the turbo power then shit would hit the fan and I would be satisfyed.. It would be decent fast due to the lightweightness of my model compared to the T2 models..

Anyways.. RX7's RULE!
