Go back for their Salad with Pork Confit. Easily one of the best salads i've had. Topped with a poached egg.

Red Wagon

Tried their pulled pork benny - 9/10. Could've done without the hollandaise sauce. Eggs were poached to perfection. Pulled pork was excellent.
Co-worker tried their pulled pork pancakes. Should've gone a little more easy on the syrup but oh well. 8.5/10

Service - 6/10. Hipster waitresses there don't give a shit and one of them gave us our bill after we ordered and thought we were done eating. Stood there waiting for about 10 minutes before they asked us for how many and took our name down. Kitchen staff earned themselves a well-deserved 10/10.

Damnit,

Every place you try, I want to go try the next the day. hahaha living close to you and having you post reviews will cause me to go broke and get fat.

Go go go! :D

Shizen Ya

Started with:
Wild Sockeye Salmon Black Gomaae (fresh fresh fish, nice sauce)
Chicken Breast gyoza (came late but they compensated with 2 mini dishes of tuna tataki)
The gyozas themselves were excellent - well proportioned meat to veggie ratio

Main:
Dinner Combo that included Prawn Sunomono, Organic tofu Miso soup, 2 pieces of Salmon/Tuna, Kheema Curry

Food: solid 9/10
Service: 8/10
Quality: 10/10

6/10. Delicious food, but pricey for what you get... I probably won't go again.

Fortune City Restaurant (I think that's what it's called) on 1st Ave & Renfrew

Food was delicious and service was far beyond expected.

Soup
Squab
Steamed chicken - their specialty. It was not oily and the meat was lean and soft. Soaked in the right amount of brine making it just right. Delicious.
Pea tips - Run of the mill
Scallop fried rice - Not too oily and not too salty. Just right.
Seafood chow mein - Can't screw this one up.
Pepper beef vegetable stir fry - Pretty good except I would have personally preferred a much coarser pepper.
Custard tapioca dessert (amazing - by far the best I've had)

Food - 10/10
Service - 10/10 (They really took care of us at every given opportunity.)

I normally don't give 10s, especially to a Chinese restaurant but this place wowed me. :)

Edit:

The Cascade

Had some drinks with a few friends, polenta fries and calimari. Bartenders and service staff were great and lots of fun. 9/10.

Lasagna

Zeppole al Cioccolate "Home made chocolate stuffed fritters served with vanilla anglaise"

We also had Margherita Pizza and an appetizer that I could not remember the name of lol. It was thinly sliced eggplant rolled over some sort of cheese(taste like ricotta...)
Food was excellent and of good value. Crowd was unpretentious. Service was pretty attentive for a busy Saturday night.

10/10

Guu on Thurlow 7/10

What the fuck? They changed the menu and all the good stuff is gone. The staff and chefs are gone too.

Might not go back... disappointed that they no longer have:

Popeye Salad
Grilled Squid
Croquette

and no frozen grapes when the bill comes. :(

bcrdukes 05-30-2011 10:19 PM

Cafe Gloucester
Macanese Pork Chop bun w/fries

6/10
Wasn't that great. (Then again, this place wasn't ever that great to begin with.)

Worst. Place. Ever.

Do not ever go there. Shit is retarded expensive and it tastes like ass.

Fusion is already fucked as it is and the Red Door brings it to the next level.

Red Door is right next to stone grill in my books. Might as well throw money at a hooker on hastings and hope for a better outcome.

I used to work there, too.

You're right. This place is a tourist trap. It might be okay for drinks though.

Wow how did they ditch the pumpkin croquette (assuming its this) its like THE orginal GUU item.

Thank you for the head's up as the Guu on Thurlow is my neighbourhood haunt. I'll most likely avoid for the time being until they things revert to how it was.

sh0n 05-31-2011 10:31 PM

Might as well share this....and let the RS scene on the in.

Had the KFC toonie tuesday today at the KFC on David in DT

Worst KFC EVAR!!!

Chicken: The oil needed changing as the chicken smelt like paint thinner and had a very odd ammonia smell. I'm pretty sure they were reusing rancid oil.
Fries: Decent can't complain
Coleslaw: I like this here haha

2/10. Still ate the chicken cause I had craving for KFC. But I'll definitely think twice and most likely go to Church's from now on.

Yes.

Regardless, my experience was a complete opposite of what was blogged on the featured blog/website. (Food For Buddha or whatever.)

I was at Guu Gastown on Monday and though the exact same thing when they handed me the new menu. I noticed a lot of the items were the same, but a few that were missing. Still had a good meal though... and we got frozen grapes with the bill :)

Really liked the spicy sauce on their calamari.

8/10

The Daisy Cafe
www.thedaisycafe.com
Bellingham

Delicious brunch food.

I had the Galbraith Quesadilla + Chorizo Sausage (8 +2 = $10)
"Two scrambled eggs* with cheddar cheese and fresh homemade pico de gallo, rolled into two flour tortillas and grilled. Served with homemade pico de gallo, sour cream and country-cut potatoes."

Ingredients were super fresh and tasty. The spices were very fragrant in the quesadilla and a dallop of sour cream made it rich and delicious. Potatoes were good too (asked for them to be extra crispy).

The other dish was Great North West Benny ($11.5)
"Two perfectly poached eggs*, alder smoked salmon, golden english muffin, covered in our own creamy hollandaise sauce. Served with potatoes."

I thought it was a bit salty at times...but overall delicious. The hollandaise is very nice, light and tasty. The salmon is actually cooked and not that raw, smoked salmon we encounter here.

9/10 for great brunch food.
If you go to Bellis Fair and you're looking for decent eats, this place has it. About 2.8 miles from Bellis Fair.

Regarding Fortune City Restaurant, they recently changed ownership and most of the staff is different.

All blogs/sites talking about that particular restaurant is before the new owners. They try to be more high end with constant plate changes, better service, etc but the food is the same as before. Price is more expensive than before though.

Not really racist! 06-01-2011 10:17 PM

My friend's father is a manager there....^
