Bubble Queen

https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22229571779

Been trying forever to get to this elusive bbt place.. the times I've gone, they've been closed, switched locations, etc.

Tried their signature Mango Slush w/ fresh Mango Cubes $5.95 + tax = $6.66

Larger than any other bbt place I've been to, included a mix of regular & small tapioca pearls.

Tasted like mango pudding in a cup.

8/10. I like it but it's expensive for just "bubbletea" and paying upwards of $6 for a drink that's not alcoholic is just strange to me, so it'll be very infrequent visits for me.

How many places in Vancouver actually serve real wasabi?

Shima sounds promising, nice cause its so close by.

To all of the customers? None. Many places will serve real, fresh grated wasabi to customers who are connoisseurs and actually appreciate it, knew how to really eat sushi....at least, I did. If the customer ordered sashimi and nigiri suchi, then I would grate up some wasabi, but if there was any california rolls or BC rolls or dynamite rolls in the order I wouldn't bother...it would be a waste. Also would not serve it to people who drowned their food in soy sauce, or mixed in an insane amount of wasabi....that's just plain stupid.

Chronic Tacos on W. Broadway & Yukon

1/10. By far, the worst "Mexican" food I've ever had. Overpriced at that. Does not live up to the hype.

Tried their fish, shrimp and carne asada tacos. Salsa wasn't that great despite it being fresh. Definitely a chain designed to cater to the masses. A majority of the food lacks in flavour and tasted extremely bland.

Try Sakura Sushi instead if you want value, quality and authenticity.

I knew this place wouldn't be authentic just from looking outside, but does it rate any better if you expected gringo Mexican? I'm betting this place is along the lines of Taco Time with a higher price tag. Been tempted to go..

Likewise. I knew from the beginning it would be far from authentic but all the reviews online from the local food blogs etc. seemed to favour them.

And you know what? I'm going to have to say no. It wasn't any better than your typical Taco Bell/Taco Time. Maybe a bit better in terms of quality of ingredients but the bottom line is - better and cheaper Mexican can be had in this city alone.

In all honesty, I would not recommend this place for anybody with a hankering for Mexican food. I enjoyed my food at Taco Luis over this place. :lol

Edit: Their rendition of carne asada reminded me of canned dog food. And their guacamole would have been very insulting to anybody with Latin American heritage. :Puke:

Thank you.

Off the top of my head: Ebisu (Broadway, Robson), Sushi Hachi, Kura, Kimura, Shiro?, Toshi?

Shiro serves fresh grated wasabi. It's delicious with sashimi and a drop of soy sauce.

AFAIK, they don't - have you seen them grate it in front of you? The fibers you see in the wasabi is from horeseradish in a jar. IMHO, Shiro is a bit too low class (for lack of a better term) to serve it. Don't get me wrong, I eat there once or twice a week, and it's one of my favourites, but I highly doubt they have fresh wasabi.

I also recently ate at Mandalay Steakhouse. Started off great but got progressively worse.

Crab Cakes - 9/10
Chicken & Mushroom Tagliatelle - 7/10
Creme Brulee - 1/10

Seriously, the worst creme brulee I have ever had. Tasted exactly like vanilla pudding that you get in those cups when you are in elementary school. Did not resemble custard whatsoever. Completely ruined a decent meal. View was nice, but probably wouldn't go back anytime soon.

i remember ordering the katsu don at sushi han before and it was above average due to the crispiness of the katsu itself. give it a try.
