what didn't sell ya on it?

Meat & Bread 8.5/10

Porchetta Sandwich / Corn Soup
i loved it when i went there a few weeks ago. nice crispy skin w/ juicy meat. and the swipe thru the mustard made it all the better. i think it needed a mayo/aioli on it tho.

Seasons in the Park @ Queen E 10/10
i wish i had taken more pics but i didnt think about it until the end lol

to start, our table was sent a seared tuna amuse bouche by the chef. that really got my taste buds going.

entre i got the ribeye steak, and my wife ordered the fillet mignon. super flavorful and cooked to perfection.

dessert i got the Georgian Brandy Pecan Pie, and my wife got a Double Belgian Chocolate Truffle & Fudge Cake. Both were very good

amuse bouche is quite small, like a bite size. You guys didnt order any appies? The stuffed mushrooms are like a must for me at Seasons.

Well, for me, it wasn't exactly the warmest porchetta (same with HachiSix's.) Wasn't all that much flavour nor was the meat juicy. The mustard part was a bit off. I don't feel that it goes well with the sandwich itself so I found that rather odd. Definitely overpowered the rest of the sandwich. Overall, it just wasn't what the sandwich was made out to be based on word of mouth, online blogs and reviews.

i thougth meat and bread was great. great venue, decent food and it's what u normally pay anywhere. great ingrediences and I would pay that over any subway or quiznos shit anytime.

the bread was a bit hard but then i wouldn't want any cheap soggy bread either. I thought it was pricey but i much rather pay that than a burger at cactus club. THe only BEEF i have is the fact the menu is limited so they better change that shit up cause after the 3rd visit, you'll be like... there's nothing much else to eat.

Flying Wedge Pizza (Langley): went to see what all the hype was about. Turns out it's just your average pizza parlor, except it's fucking expensive. 10 bucks for two large slices of pizza and a drink--and it's not even large compared to some local gourmet joints.
3/10 would not visit again

Fatburger: Satisfying as usual, but after being spoiled by Vera's for so long I'm starting to find that I'd much rather go to Vera's. Good atmosphere though.

Hoi An - 9/10

Mi Quang. So good. :D

Expresso 07-01-2011 11:28 PM

If the pork in the Porchetta was warm/hot and if they were able to bake the skin so it was warm and crispy, I think the sandwich would be excellent. Otherwise it was good not great.

If Maruwa stopped serving farmed salmon, it would definitely be even more awesome!

Agreed. This is their biggest flaw unfortunately. :okay:

Culverin 07-02-2011 05:08 AM

Yeah, my friend was raving out this place. And then I saw the photos ducks posted and I'm like... wtf? farmed salmon? :failed:

Would be nice to give their management a headsup that the rest of their menu attracts a crowd that is beyond samurai sushi farmed salmon eaters.

Splitz Grill (Whistler) - 9.5/10

Their Legendary Splitz burger. Soooo gooood. :D

Bonka 07-02-2011 05:42 PM

Is the Splitz in Whistler better than the one on Main St? I've had the one on Main a few times and the patties are charred and dry and there are too many end pieces in the fries.

Five Guys
8/10
Double patty bacon cheeseburger

It had the right amount of greasiness on the bun, juicy patties and what I would consider it to be an above average non-gourmet burger. Fries were ok. I can see why so many people come out disappointed though.

Burger Burger
7.5/10
6oz double patty bacon cheeseburger.

Handpressed, meatloaf texture - very homespun style. It trades some juiciness for more beefiness. Cheese, mushrooms or bacon add on is expensive. Poutine is mediocre using a minimal amount of shredded cheese.

Yes, the one in Whistler is better. Lady friend and a few other guy friends claimed it was better for 3 years straight. Didn't believe them until today.

The Main Street location can be hit'n'miss. The one in Whistler is operated by the family who owns that location so they do take pride and care in what they do.

DUDE. Ok, I'm not the only one noticing that too then?!?!
Thank goodness I'm not going crazy.

Hahaha. Normally I'm ok with the little bits and pieces because they're usually crispy but those were like eating the skin off a peanut.

I've yet to find a good skin-on french fry.

Just got back from NY!

Shake Shack @ Madison Square Park (Their first location)
Despite the consistently long line of literally a 100 people which took roughly about 20-30 mins was worth it.

Ordered the Shake Shack Burger, Fries w/ Shake Shack sauce and Lemonade. Every item ordered was on point and delicious. One of the best fast food burgers I have ever eaten. Me and the GF went twice and got a double Shake Shack Burger this time; its that damn good. The burger is cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth. No ketchup or mustard, just their "secret" Shake Shack sauce.

Burger, fries & Lemonade: 10/10

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...e/DSC02361.jpg

Lombardi's Pizza @ Little Italy NY
Once again another long line up but fortunately we were two people and got in right away! I'll say it again, one of the best pizza's with the freshest ingredients I have had.

14" w/ Fresh Mozzarella & Pepperoni: 10/10

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...e/DSC02727.jpg

Wafel & Dinges @ Central Park
Was excited for this well known waffle cart and/or truck that roams NY. Ended up to be a slight disappointment though. Waffle was not fresh at all. Somewhat difficult to cut. Overall it was okay.

Waffle w/ Dark Chocolate & Strawberries: 6.5/10

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...e/DSC02683.jpg

Serendipity 3
45 minute wait for an overrated dessert. It was good but was not mind blasting at all. I'm not a dessert person to begin with though. The GF and I ordered a Fettuccine Seafood Pasta (Sorry no picture) which was probably better than the famous Frozen Hot Chocolate.

Fettuccine: 7.5/10
Frozen Hot Chocolate: 6/10
