hi genki 8/10 lineup was a bit long today but understandable since we went at 12. katsu curry, salmon and ebi fry and the spicy chicken karaage were all great. wish they would permanently have katsu hayashi rice on the menu...haven't had it the last 2 or 3 times ive went :okay: |
Sushi Garden Lougheed - 7/10 Friend wanted to check out this location. Line up and shitty service for mediocre food. Probably sticking with Sushi Nanaimo when in the area. |
Duke of Dublin. Kobe burger. Waitress was hot. Food was pretty good. 8.5/10 |
Abdul's Chicken sharwarma 10/10 edit: its a one man show in there but worth the wait!!! |
Season's in the Park 8/10 food was average, service was pretty good, but they had to put us beside an obnoxious middle eastern man |
Olive Garden After we were seated, our server offered us a sample of this new italian wine. We weren't much of a wine/alcohol type but we decided to try it. As usual, it tasted pretty foul and had a strong aftertaste. Started off with salad and breadsticks. Entree took a while to come out, but the salad and breadsticks were unlimited so the wait wasn't too dreadful. Had Eggplant Parmigiana with spagetti. Eggplant was nice and crispy and had just the right amount of cheese, but the spagetti/tomato sauce was a little bit on the watery side. Food 6.5/10 Service 7/10 |

Deer Garden Signatures in Richmond. It's a noodle house where you customize the toppings, soup base and such. They also claim no MSG in the soup. I chose Malay Laska for soup base, beef brisket, beef balls for toppings and u-don for noodles. The soup isn't too salty or spicy, which was perfect. Flavors are good. The only downside are the amount of beef balls, i think i only had 2 whole balls cut into halves = 4 peices or so. Came with a drink as well, so i had lemon iced tea. It was in a sealed cup so if you can't finish it, you can take it with you. Unfortunately, i left it in my friend's car... Total bill for this meal was around $11 with tax and tip. Overall it was good, i would go again and try other combinations. Food 8/10. Service 7/10. http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...2-08164128.jpg |
^ love that place. problem is they're always busy in lunch hours, so i only go there on sunday mornings when they open (11am i think). i like their pepper based soup the most. |
The Keg 8/10 Great service as always. Went for dineout had the primerib and cheese cake. Same experience as every other time i went. It was good. |
http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...75730764_n.jpg K's Cafe at Cancun Miso Crab Ramen, 8.5/10 http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...24283264_n.jpg Random food stall at isla mujeres Moist and cheap, came up just over 5 bucks for a huge ass fish with all the sides. 8/10 |
seri malaysia 8.5/10 they're closing for good on sunday so better go quick! |
black + blue, right beside coast and part of the glowbal group. ill rate on everything i tried -lobster, was sliced in half and they stuffed the tail and clawmeat inside the shell. Best dish in terms of entrees by far. 10/10 -beef wellington, i personally ordered one and it was alright if you are into reallllly well done meat. The pastry wasn't that great since the bottom part was melted from the foie gras sauce. 8/10 -the foie gras was the most powerful dish in terms of flavour :sweetjesus: wanted to order another one since one dish was so full filling but it costed almost 20 bucks :okay: 10/10 -beef carpaccio, do not order this rofl. waste of space on the menu -caesar salad, they grind up the spices in a wooden bowl and toss the salad with their egg yolk and if i recalled...they made the mayo infront of us. 9/10 -crap dip, bun was too hard, dip was not fit for dipping. do not order 4/10 |
Samurai Sushi on Fraser. I was in the area and accidentally passed by this place and so decided to give it a try. The first thing you notice is that this place is mainly a take-out venue in that the physical store is really small with only a handful of tiny tables. The second thing that really stands out is their sushi size. When the server brought me my House Roll, I almost burst out laughing. Their sushi is GINORMOUS LOL! In diameter, it's even bigger than my fist and it was impossible to eat it normally. You have to eat it almost like a steak, that is, you have to nibble at it. Samurai Sushi will not be winning any accolades from foodies any time soon, but I think it does serve its purpose well. It's very cheap and very filling and I think its oodles better value than your typical fast food. 7/10. PS. Cute girl working there too. |

i do to samurai sushi a lot near langara/oakridge because i go to school near there. The alaskan roll is the bomb! (salmon + imitated crab meat) :awwyeah: |
Went to House Guest tonight.. http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7187/...e52d9912_b.jpg Honestly, it's decent food, their method of taking rsvp's is messy, phone doesn't even work, not sure if anyone responds to their emails. Hipster to a goddamn T. Inevitably the first thing most people will say about this place is "horrible service", but it wasn't that bad, just slow, they aint flat out ignoring you. http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7187/...a6ea0645_b.jpg I had some kerfuffle about off menu items, and exclusivity and specific people that receive it and those who don't..it's a strange skewed concept of customer service, IMO. Return? Uhh....highly unlikely. |
Zephyr Tea House Cafe / Tri-Pot - 7/10 At first I tried one of their famous "tri-pots", which is basically picking a few items and cooking it together. In terms of spice, I asked for it to be mild since I can't really handle spice, but man I couldn't even handle this as well. Altogether my "tri-pot" came to around $12, for a small snack-like dish, (low-carb). It's alright if you try it for your first time. My drink sucked though. I had a honey lemon black tea and it tasted exactly the same as the ones that you would get at a HK style cafe. Maybe that's just being unlucky, I guess. My buddies said their food wasn't that great though, compared to other places. I really like the decor in this restaurant though, but it doesn't look as good as well-tea. Overall, a good place to try. |
Habour Spirit Restaurant (No.3 Road beside Cactus Club) Went there for dimsum with the girlfriend and a few friends. Overall pretty good food 8~9/10 Service was mediocre (could have been more attentive, but it's dimsum, so who really cares?) Their deep fried wonton was pretty good. Other than that, not many items stood out from your regular joints. Came up to about ~$45 for 4 people, so not too bad. |
The shore house meh 7/10 |
Kyo 7/10 Great service as always, food is typical ayce stuff nothing too great. I realize this is the only ayce i go to nowadays. |
