Takano Japanese Noodle Cafe in Port Coquitlam

Had the bbq pork ramen with a side of gyoza. Soup broth was a little bland. The pork slices on top were cold as well as the bamboo shoots. Noodles were clean tasting and cooked well. 6/10

Gyoza was the best part. Crispy on the bottom and juicy on top. Filling was nothing special but good texture and taste. Not sure if made in house. 8/10

Price 8/10
Ambiance 7/10

Would return if I had a craving for ramen again.

Joe Fortes

Had the calamari and truffle parmesan fries to start. Calamari was great, super tender and had a nice dipping sauce with a bit of zing to it. Parmesan fries were good, but I found them a little too overcooked. They were crispy, but sort of dry.

Then moved onto the oysters, tried 3 each of the Kusshi and Joe's Gold. All oysters were very fresh and served properly.

Had the Miso Sablefish for my main. Fish was cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious. I think they should serve something more interesting than plain jasmine rice on the side though.

Tiramisu for dessert, no complaints there.

Overall the food was great, service was top notch, although they forgot to re-fill our water a few times. Still one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver.

9.5/10

Be'Wiched Cafe

Small little cafe in the same complex as Big Ridge Brewing Company on 152 St and Hwy 10 in Surrey. Run by two women who make almost everything in house from scratch.

Had the Pulled Pork Sandwich with apple butter bbq sauce. Holy shit sooooo good! Probably the best pulled pork since Boonie's closed down. The meat was tender but not wet, and the bbq sauce was sweet, smoky and spicy all at the same time. The coleslaw was fresh and gave the sandwich a nice crunch.

Also had a lime citrus bar. Also fantastic.

I recommend this to anyone out in Surrey, their hours are a little tough, only being open Mon-Friday until 4pm but it was awesome.

:fulloffuck: your friend is the son's owner? meaning your friend owns the son? So the dad is who you know I assume? :troll:

I would have to say, the freshness of the fish over there blows away anything here minus the salmon...

Atlantic doesn't do much for me

never disappointed by the food here anytime. buta pon was strangely delicious. who knew ponzu+oroshi+katsu would be a win combo. ika karaage was super fresh too. i wish they would add the pork katsu hayashi permanently to the menu. its so fucking money but i dont think ive seen it on the menu the last 3-4 times ive went.

Was in California for the weekend and happened to drop by a joint recommended by a local foodie I made friends with:

Mantee Café

Pretty highly acclaimed restaurant. Food was exceptional, good servings, fair price, everything homemade. Owner/head chef was super friendly, and even made us a fresh full order of lamb chops to go when the waiter accidentally gave our doggy bag to the table that was leaving beside us.

Will visit again if I'm ever in the area.

Manzo Japanese Restaurant (Itamae)

Ordered few random appies. Had a special dishe where they had a scallop shell that was held up by its own lil personal burner thingymagig i dun even know how to explain it with random goodies on the shell. Overall very creative and looked appealing to the eye. It all tasted pretty good with Asahi.

Peaceful Restaurant
8.5/10

Dan Dan noodles great, almost too rich with the spicy peanut sauce. Xiao Long Bao had a nice thin skin and a good amount of "soup". Beef roll was good but over the top with the meal. Too much hoisin sauce.

Suika
8/10

Ordered the corn kakiage twice and both times it was too heavily battered. Asian kakiage was excellent - crispy, airy and a good balance between savoury with the scallops, squid and shrimp and sweet with the onion. Beef filet fried rice was great as usual (love the slight bitterness from the fried garlic) as was the salmon carpaccio and tuna tartar (toast points stale, however). Matcha brulee was a little too frozen but included the hard caramel top.
