I got The black cod combo with came with kobachi (side dish), tempura (2 prawn, 3 veggie), I think it was 6 pieces sashimi (3 tuna, 3 atlantic salmon). 2 yakitori, Grilled black cod, miso soup and actually, can't remember if the onigiri I got was stolen from my friend's plates or if it came with my combo. hahaha. They've also go fish you don't find much elsewhere... red tuna, toro, tai, sawara suzuki. There were some different combos at the table, all good. My only quibble was I forgot to ask for real sashimi which I heard he has on hand... and the piece of uni wasn't super fresh. I've gone a few times now, never disappointed. |
ive gone once and it was amazing value ($30 omakase), but i'd say only half of the dishes were very enjoyable. he gave me stuff like lasagna and french onion soup at the END of the meal, which i didnt care for. |

the one 9/10 bbt :) very cheap! fried rice big portion but eh. |
Tried out Pho Vinh the other day and had the pho dac biet with a spring roll. There was a tonne of beef, reminded me of pho tam lol. Weird consistency though, some of the beef slices were tender and other ones were almost too tough to eat. Broth was pretty good, spring roll was mediocre. 7/10 By the way, is a large #1 $8.50 or $9.50? Thought it was $8.50, but I could've been wrong. |

Tried out Sanpachi on Bute yesterday and ordered the Mini Char Shiu set (tonkotsu soup base). Broth for the ramen was not particularly flavorful, and the Char Shiu rice was just disgusting. Sticking with Santouka and Benkei. I'm never going back to Sanpachi. 4/10 |
^ Wow, still bad eh? I went there during their opening week. I didn't find it amazing and would rate it along the lines of a 4/10 as well. It was pretty disappointing and I didn't want to fault them since they had some loose ends to tie up but this is straight up bad. |
Thank goodness I'm not the only one!!! People keep telling me I'm crazy that Sanpachi doesn't even make it on my list. The broth had no depth of flavor and the char siu was just kind of sad. I'd like to think I did both better on my first try, and I've got zero background cooking japanese. And it's not that i'm overly fond of my cooking.... Kintaro has me solidly beat, motomachi is miles beyond me, and I could only hope to touch Santouka's broth one day. |
Tried Black & Blue last night. New steak house owned by Glowbal that opened on Oct 29th. Didn't go for the Wagyu but it was tempting. I tried what I always try first at any steak house, the Prime Rib. Got the 10oz for $27 which came with mash, veggies, and onions. It was not 10 oz the thing was pretty big and thick. Even the server was like wtf that can't be 10oz. The server mentioned other times he has brought out the 10oz Prime Rib it was like this so who was I to complain. The steak itself was decent but it didn't blow me away. My gf got the Delmonico 14oz Blue Ribbon steak. According to the waiter at least the Blue Ribbon is exclusive only to them. It's a higher end meat vs the Angus and these cows are raised in PEI. Anyways her steak was pretty solid and both our pieces were cooked exactly the way we asked. Everything except the Prime Rib is the same as Gotham, Mortans etc. Your order just comes with the steak and you get sides on top if you choose. My gf got this Mac and Cheese for her side which is deep fried and you dip it in truffle cheese. It looks like fish sticks but it's mac and cheese inside. It was different and tasted pretty decent. I'm not gonna go on and on about my first experience but I will just say that it was pretty decent both the food and place itself but it didn't give me the WOW factor. There's some cuts you can't get at other places and they have this huge chamber in the middle of the restaurant with all their raw meat where they let it sit for x amount of days. You can hang your name on it and reserve a cut to eat later. Kind of cool but ind of a gimmick for me. If your stuff doesn't taste great I don't really care. Would I go again? I would, but it hasn't taken my place as best steak house though. Here's their menu if you wanna take a peak. http://www.glowbalgroup.com/blackblu...lue-dinner.pdf |
^ So what was your rating? I'm heading down tonight, I'm a sucker for Prime Rib so hopefully i won't be disappointed! |
