Brunch at Homer Street Cafe 10/10

Was in the area running errands, decided to drop in for lunch. The braised beef eggs benny was one of the best things I've ever had in recent memory.

Always been meaning to eat here, don't know why it's taken me this long.

dlo 08-20-2016 04:50 PM

each to their own opinion haha, will try out Ajuker sunday now, thanks for the recommendations!

Obsideon 08-20-2016 05:57 PM

I'm assuming Homer's brunch is only Sat/Sun?

Anyone have a recommendation for a good brunch spot for a weekday?

subordinate 08-20-2016 09:53 PM

Sal y Limon - spicy pulled prk burrito - 7/10. Felt there was too much rice in it, wet, came apart if you eat slow.

Straight out of Brooklyn pizza - only had margarita pizza - 5/10. The dough was nice but just didn't feel it.

if anyone has had the pizza in Portland (Apizza Scholls), they have a killer margarita pizza. That is one pizza I'd rate a 10.

Anyone know what's a good place in Van/Richmond that serves those E-fu noodles inside the crab shell with crab meat and cream sauce?
I don't known what that's called in Chinese but I've seen it appear in weddings too.

Edit: should be this stuff - 蟹肉伊麵

Ajuker and Pocha are good alternatives.

Their burritos have been very hit and miss (in my limited experience there.) Their tacos aren't bad, however. Unfortunately, nothing similar in the area, so choices are limited, unless you count Budgies Burritos a good alternative. :fuckthatshit:

Was back in town for a couple of weeks. Revisited many old places and some new ones.

Kintaro - 6.5/10 in general, 9/10 for their Cheese Ramen. An old favorite.

Dunn's Famous BC - 7/10 Not impressed with their smoked meat or the sandwich. Never been to Montreal to compare though. Felt the meat portions weren't that big. This was the largest 8oz size already.

https://scontent-hkg3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...85769797_o.jpg

Ajisai - 9.5/10 always. My favorite place for sushi rolls

https://scontent-hkg3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...98496146_o.jpg

Burgoo - 8/10. Easily the best Grilled Cheese I have ever had. But at $14.50 with a teeny salad... Yeah. Also tried their Mac and Cheese and didn't like it.

I think you nailed it.

The area is dying for some more restaurants like Main St.

I wouldn't go out of my way for Sal y limon.

unit 08-22-2016 06:58 AM

went to acorn on main, really good kale salad, and amazing mushroom pate.
9/10 for sure.

guurl 08-22-2016 12:05 PM

Went to jam cafe for the first time on Friday. Was super satisfied with my chicken and waffles. Waffles were a little bit sweet just how I like it. I want to come back to try the other items on the menu.

Out of all the places Ive been to, (catch122, medina, el camino, coras)

This place is my new fav (normally don't eat out for brekky/brunch)

ty armind 10/10

Burritos are OK at Sal Y Limon, I like their tacos quite a bit.

The area is a pretty decent cluster of restaurants actually, with Sal Y Limon, Straight Outta Brooklyn, Les Faux Bourgeois, Matchstick, Savio Volpe, Black Lodge, and Los Cuervos. Also Ba Le. That is 8 places within 500 feet of each other.

westopher 08-22-2016 05:38 PM

Between savio volpe, faux borgeous, Brooklyn and sal y limon you have 4 genres of pretty great places on a corner.

Sal y limon is my all time favourite authentic mexican food in Vancouver. Closest thing to Tacos in Mexico that i could find here. The beef tongue taco is to die for. I always go in for 6 tacos and nothing else so i can't comment on the burritos but I'm sure they're just as good.

Derek_N84 08-24-2016 10:36 AM

^ beef tongue all the wayyyyyy!

i like the fact they cube theirs not shredded like some other places.

+1 for similar tacos to mexico for me as well

Galactic_Phantom 08-25-2016 03:06 PM

Anybody know a place besides Le Crocodile that has a good Angel Hair dish

Spoon 08-26-2016 12:05 PM

Tried Peaceful Restaurant (Robson location) for the first time. Ordered a Dan Dan noodle and the flavours were spot on. Price was a bit high ($10), but the portion was decent and the noodles looked like they were hand made. Glad to see some good Chinese food places start up in the area. Would definitely go again to try their other dishes.

bcrdukes 08-27-2016 05:15 AM

Momofuku Shoto

Great food
Great service
10/10

Some may complain about the value, but I left satisfied. In all fairness, for the price of the tasting menu, there are a lot of other excellent restaurants where you get way more bang for buck.

Verdasco 08-27-2016 08:10 AM

hondae pocha cafe

great soy chicken

a place that actually knows how to make chicken unlike dasarang which is garbage (dasarang serve shitty soft and soggy chicken)

great place to meet new people and girls. place is made to talk with other tables, sit around and chill. I felt like I was the only non korean there last night and most of them do not speak a speck of english

poutine size is smaller compared to the past couple of months

8/10

Galactic_Phantom 08-27-2016 10:47 PM

The Pear Tree

Lobster cappuccino = mindblown 10/10. The texture, the flavour, everything just done right. :sweetjesus:

Everthing thing else was above average-great. 8.5/10.

Service is lacking 8/10

Armind 08-30-2016 11:10 AM

Randy's Take-out
Best god damn Jamaican beef patties ever
Oxtail rice dish was bomb.
Add some Ting to drink the side..
10/10

Michael's
Had their Japanese A5 steak
Bunch of sides and drinks
9.5/10

Fishman Lobster Clubhouse
50lbs of lobster, never been done before.. it was literally a mountain of lobster.
Everyone sorta came to our table to take a pic of it. lol
10/10

Banh Mi Boyz
Pork Belly sandwich was good, wish their bread was crunchy.
Kim chi fries was bomb.
8.5/10

Vansterdam 08-31-2016 03:01 PM

^ when you realize this wasent local :(

pics of the lobster lol

ZN6 08-31-2016 03:03 PM

Hida Takayama. Again, this place rids itself of all the uncessessaries and serves up a honest to god bowl of ramen. Flavours were distinguishable and the noodles have a nice chewy texture. $10 with no frills and no lines.

Also felt like a game of MvC and got rocked by some kid who was playing.

8/10
