^
I like their noodles and shoyu soup base. But their pork is way too lean.

Armind 08-31-2016 03:15 PM

Something like this but x5. :lawl:

Part II of my Vancouver visit for good food.

Manzo (Alexandra Road) 8/10 - The only Manzo I like. They still have the best Ebi Mayo in town. Not soggy, like a lot of the other izakaya places. Oh yeah, their onigiri is great too, if you like it crispy and flavourful.

Nightingale - 4/10 - Was looking forward to trying this 'hot spot'. Place was packed. Haven't had a chance to go to Hawkworth to compare but was utterly disappointed. Food was nothing special and some I would say were even bad. The best dish was their pork belly. But if you're chinese, I would say many places have Roast Pork that is better. Same thing with their fried chicken. Churches is better. Also take a look at the plating and presentation. Not worth the money imo.

Miku - 6.5/10 - Minami on Yaletown is better. Service was lacking. Server didn't let us know that there was no Uni until we ordered a Uni Sashimi.... But then we already ordered one of their special sushi which originally supposingly had sushi. When asked about it, he just shrugged and said "Oh don't worry we'll give you a discount on the roll" Wtf.

Bao Chau - 8/10 - I went crazy with Pho this time visiting. Hit up Pho Viet, Pho Tam, Petite Saigon, the old Pho Bich Nga. And Bao Chau was the winner. Love how they serve it steaming hot.

Ebo in the Grand Villa Casino. Their chef, Keith Pears, won Chopped Canada recently.

Read great reviews on Opentable and gave it a shot and was very impressed. Creative fine dining in a nice room. $110 after tax/tip for 2 of us. Service was friendly though the wait for food was on the long side.

Would definitely come back for any special occasion and maybe even the odd splurge.

Just for ZN6, I will give this a 10/10. :D

I went to the take out location next door to the main location. No line up, no mess, no fuss.

just went to bao chao recently, 8/10

had beef oil, a friend told me to get it and add some in my soup, made it good. $3.50 for coconut milk and red bean? fcking worth it

bowl was big compared to other pho places and meats were generous

would go back

prelude_prince 09-12-2016 10:53 PM

^^ Yeah i'm not so sure.

I been to Bao Chau a few times over the years it has always been consistent to me. Pho Tam I went twice. One last year and once recently. Did not see the hype. Petit Saigon and the old Pho Bich Nga only been to once, so I'm not sure if I went on a 'off-day' or whatever.

But yeah, Bao Chau was definately the better one of that bunch during my visit in Van.

Naanbites

Had the lamb ragoush or w.e + butter chicken thali plate or w.e. Comes with naan (crispy) and rice.
I would say this is the best indian FAST food place.

This place should be the indian staple at all malls.
9/10

Hondaracer 09-13-2016 03:28 PM

i personally think Petite Saigon is head and shoulders the best on that list, and i've aten at each one numerous times. Personal preference though

Blue water - had a set menu for a birthday on the weekend

started with the seafood tower, always find it pretty meh, would never order it myself if i was going there

Main was a choice between a filet and sablefish in a miso broth with mushrooms and herbs

i opted for the sablefish, probably one of the best fish mains i've ever had, was unbelievably tasty and cooked perfectly

finished with molten lava cake, good dessert for sure

i'll give the overall experiance a 7/10 even though the main was amazing just cause the seafood tower is so meh, wish it was just ordering off the menu instead

Verdasco 09-13-2016 09:04 PM

guu on thurlow

love the crowd, love their sashimi salad. Wasabi mayo sooooo fcking good

9/10

left the restaurant feeling fat

whitev70r 09-13-2016 09:25 PM

Wallflower on Main. Great food but a bit on the pricey side. Had their crystal eggs benny, coffee, with tax and tips, walked out with $20 less in my wallet but they use good ingredients and organic stuff. Food 8/10. Value 6/10

The Wallflower is great, but their prices have creeped up significantly over the past year or two. They used to be of great value.

That's a pretty generous rating for something you didn't like heh...

Went to Mandarin Cafe on Sunday with my team after winning vball championships. Originally wanted to go Ho Yuen Kee for the Lobster Rice but they were packed, 1 hour wait.
Mandarin Cafe is the sister restaurant to La Amigo in Richmond, a slightly higher end HK Cafe.

Ordered 2 whole lobsters with "milk butter" cream sauce and extra noodles. Lobsters were meaty and cut up in perfect pieces to pull out the big juicy chunks. $40, comes with choice of lobster bisque or russian borscht and dessert.
https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...63&oe=587CDD2C

Also ordered the rib steak topped with longoustine, it was kind of small but for $18 it was tender and decent value.
https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...81&oe=587B16CB

Service was good for a hong kong style cafe.

8.5/10
