Just to touch on the ambiance what do you guys think of Hy's? I liked it but the GF said it felt like it was like an old mans club.

I get the feel they are going for but not sure she did :)

Hy's goes for that old world feel, which I love.

And as far as my experiences go, Hy's is about as white glove as it gets in Vancouver. Never had a bad server there and they've always been excellent and personable.

Gotham was way more casual than I remembered and as others have said, there were a whole bunch of kids there. When I saw one server bring out a fucking high chair I was kinda like uhhh...

Also walking out with fucking chicken fingers..

In a lot of ways that's Why I love Croc as well, cause no ones gonna bring a damn kid there lol

Mainlanders gon' mainland. They used to have this manager Chris, he would straight bitch out people who brought nonstop crying and annoying kids in the restaurant. Too bad he got fired. Would've made everyone else's experience much better. Too many managers bend over to unreasonable customers these days because "the customer is always right".

Hy's FTW! Dat cheese bread doe. :sweetjesus:

Hondaracer 07-28-2016 04:24 PM

Straight up, if i go to one of these places where im spending $300 and there's a crying kid, i'll pay for whatever stage i'm at and walk

Fairmont pacific lounge. Yes it's not the best place to go when there are options but fuck if I'm going to sit at Cactus club again I'm going to kill myself. (I eat at Earls, Cactus, Milestones etc at least twice a week so I pretty much know the entire menu).

2 drinks + 2 sashimi carpaccio.

First off, each of the carpaccio were $16 and $18, which is NOT bad; very reasonably priced compared to Cactus club. They had live band etc but yes, their view is blocked by convention center.

Here's the beef: $18 for Pimp's cup and $19 for Old Fashioned wtffff when did cocktails get to be this mofo expensive. The old fashioned wasn't even that good, Pimp's cup was actually ok. I was just blown away how expensive alcohol is nowdays.

A pimp's cup sure can be expensive.

I prefer the Pimm's Cup.

Is there any place that serves authentic beijing style roast duck (thin skin with some meat attached) that carves it in front of you at your table? Not looking for the regular Guangdong styled ones (just skin)

Bit off topic but there's a lot of lax parents these days. The old "kids will be kids" mentality. That shit pisses me off to no degree. When I was a kid out in public my parents made sure I sat at the table and not cause a disturbance. Well behaved kids is so rare these days. Once again...I'm not a child hater lol. But there's a time and place for everything and a high end restaurant is not happy meal time.

burgoo on west 4th kitsilano

mango cooler, soda with mango + lime fizzy drink for $3.00! worth it!

had cheesey white sandwich with crab bisque for like $17.00? Was awesome but expensive, would rather get a dish somewhere else for $17.00 imo

Salmon banh mi was like a viet sub lmao

nothing special this place imo. overrated hipster joint, $3.00 drink was a steal

5/10 would never go back

westopher 08-03-2016 04:55 PM

Strathcona beer company.
9.5/10.
Great service
Nice place
Good beer
Second best pizza I've had in the city. It's not cheap, but nothing really is so whatever.

Passed Via Tevere randomly the other day. Looks like I'll have to try it out.

My favs in the city are Farina and Nicli Antica. Barbarella on Fraser and Broadway is pretty decent as well, and they have a really good rotating beer list.

swiftshift 08-04-2016 10:01 AM

DINESTY @ ABERDEEN..

Nicli is great. Barbarella used to be the best but dropping the quality of their ingredients has dumped the quality of their pizza.
The guy who runs strathcona beer co's kitchen is one of the original cooks from barbarella.

marutama ramen, girl got food poisoning , puked when she went home

i got the shits a couple times, wet one as well.

been to this ramen shop on robson like 10times my life... never going again now sigh..

westopher 08-04-2016 09:42 PM

If she was puking right when she got home, you probably got food poisoning from the meal before. It doesn't happen instantaneously.

5/10 would never go back

So 2/3 items were awesome yet this place gets 5/10 and you would never go back? That salmon banh mi really must have turned you off big time.

bcrdukes 08-05-2016 10:44 AM

The banh mi made him laugh his ass off. I couldn't figure out if that is the reason why he gave the place a 5/10 or not. Perhaps he couldn't handle the hipster vibe.
