ICBC makes you pay up if your young, even if your a safe driver.

There is always the possibility that an experienced driver would not have misjudged the corner. Or known not to go out in those conditions.

Judgment comes with experience. I think that's the point.

$2800/yr for VW GTI (2010), 15km to and from work/school and $300/500. 3m liability.

25% discount.

Mancini 01-13-2011 11:42 AM

Few people are listing their 3rd party liability coverage. That's the big one.

Insurance companies use what is called a "graded rating". Each successive layer of insurance becomes cheaper. It's less likely that you'll need to make a claim on the second million dollars of coverage than the first, and so on, so it's cheaper.

I always put $5 million liability coverage on my cars. It doesn't cost that much (not with a 43% discount, anyway).

Sure, you can hurt someone and/or damage their property and they can sue you for a million or two, and that's usually sufficient. But what if you have 3 injured passengers and they sue you too, or the other car is a big family in a van? Or both?

The point is it doesn't cost a whole lot and provides you with a lot of extra coverage.

I have a question about the 15km to school Thing, I live near kerrisdale/dunbar and go to sfu. The thing is I park at my apartment building underground which is at kootenay loop which is 12km away from home. SFU is 19 according to google maps. Am I still eligible?

isn't insurance 15k to and from? so it's a combination . so even parking at the kootenay loop and back is over the 15km.

Generally speaking I'd agree with you, but I've seen at least 5 accidents identical to mine on the same corner and black ice was a significant factor in my accident. I'm not saying I wasn't at fault, but it was certainly not normal conditions.

Without sounding cocky, flame suits on, I'm probably a more experienced driver at only 22 than many people on this forum. I drive a $400,000 truck filled with explosive chemicals between Whistler, Pemberton, Squamish, Kelowna and Kamloops occasionally during the winter and mostly back and forth to the Island during the summer. Driving that vehicle, under those conditions add major credit to my experience.
