10 year driver discount as well

i guess im lucky sorta, but still seems odd that insurance per year costs more than the value of my car.

On a side note, does anyone know if insuring a second car would be cheaper? Any help would be great. Im thinking of getting a summer car.

I don't think buying another car would make insurance cheaper. I think your 43% discount and 10 year experience discount is like the MAXXXX you can get out of ICBC.

I just thought that there is a chance, since it would be impossible for me to be driving two cars at the same time.

The second car would be like a weekend car only.

Thanks for your input.

Generally one doesn't get a discount for a second car, but if your second car is eligible for collector plates you can get a substantially discounted rate.

Then why are you paying for full coverage? You could easily knock $500 off by declining collision and comprehensive.

In BC your car is insured, not you. Thus ICBC cannot guarantee they can give you 2 policies and both cars won't be driven.

Its frustrating cause in every other province adding a second car is easy and cheap.

That's without collision and 2 million. Everything else is there. No point having collision, if i get in an accident they're goin to write it off and lowball me $1000 anyway haha.

How come some people don't need liability? Isn't that important?
Is there a law that you're supposed to carry a minimum amount of Third-Party Liability coverage?
How much do you save per year without liability?

tonyvu 10-12-2009 10:46 PM

2005 Acura TL
$1865/year @ 43% discount

Liability is for when you hit someone and paralyze/kill/... them, then they sue for lost earnings compensation for the rest of their life which could easily be $Ms.

ICBC Basic provides limited liability of $300K, so this is the minimum by law. IMHO it is not enough, $1-3M is better and only costs $150-200 more/yr.

You'll notice I'll gamble on my car by not taking comprehensive or collision, yet won't gamble on this. Someone rightfully pointed out the chances of having an accident this severe is nill, yet its not a risk I can afford to take. I can fix my car or buy a new car, it'll suck yet $10-20K is affordable. I cannot pay a family $2M if I kill one of their family members.

Just to correct, its $200,000 TPL for basic which is standard in every basic policy

Liability also extends to property damage you may cause, as well as to your passengers, not just those you hit.

Don't mess around - get a lot of liability insurance.

Must be nice having your parents paying. hahaa

My insurance rate is fucked for the time being. I got into an accident, so it's +30% surcharge. I should get a 5% discount upcoming year, then hopefully in 2 years I'll be back to where I was before. 92 civic, $3000. LOL
