In my case I'm paying $1K for collision/comprehensive, and my car will depreciate $1K/yr. So in 2 years I will have saved $2K not paying collision/comprehensive, and my car will only be worth $8K... in 3 years $3K and $7K... in 4 years $4K and $6K... and in 5 years I'll have saved enough to buy a whole new car $5K == $5K. My math is simple, yet hopefully it gets the point across. If you're willing to gamble with a few years where you'll get screwed, you'll eventually win, and win big. Plus, my car is going to depreciate > $1K/yr, its got a lot of mileage. In your case the math is even more in your favour, as you're probably paying > $1K/yr for collision/comprehensive. Why anyone pays collision/comprehensive on cars worth < $10K is beyond me... then again, people waste money on extended warranties too. Its a gamble with not paying collision/comprehensive, yet its a safe gamble if the car is paid off and you enough saved to buy another car. |
shit. my $2000 doesn't seem too bad now that I see what others are paying lol. Just did my insurance last week on my new car 2009 BMW 335i Sedan Roadstar full coverage $2000/year |
i have 20% discount. going onto 25 in october! yay |

'90 Miata 2m 3rd Party liability Specified Perils (pretty much comprehensive without accidents/vandalism coverage) 30% (i think) discount $1200/yr |
hahah icbc is not max +40% lol... i got my insurance quote in the mail not too long ago... 205% surcharge, they qutoted me $15,600 for insurance on my audi... of course there's ways to get around that, so i'm paying 260/month on it now for full coverage, 3 mil liability, 300 comp, $1000 collision, rental and all |

Yet what portion was ICBC and what was the private insurer? As far as I understand it, ICBC basic is a set amount, lets say $1500, so 205% is only ~$3K. |

Ya you pulled the wool over there eyes and got em. :haha: If you have a 205% surcharge it's because you drive like a blind drunk. You insured your car in someone elses name *golf clap* until you get in another accident and ICBC voids your shit because they'll figure out exactly whats up.They'll ask your neighbors, coworkers or fellow students who drives this car. Then you'll get a bill for the damages to whatever vehicle you crashed into, injuries, doctors, ambulance whatever it might be. I might come across as crude but it seriously isn't worth it. I know a guy who was smart like you, he now owes ICBC more money then he makes in 3 years. |
http://www.icbc.com/autoplan/costs/claim-record/CRS it says although the most on the chart says +205%, its possible to exceed that amount. |

yup... 15k @ +205% would mean his base rate is around 5k. not uncommon for a lot of cars. nobodys pays just $1500 with 0% discount! that would be insane no matter what car you drove let alone an audi |

u fell for an icbc scam....to and from work within 15km costs the exact same if its in excess of 15km...plus if u say in excess of 15km's then it counts for pleasure use aswell. just hope u dont crash ur car 16 km's fropm home or expect a shit storm from icbc |
97 Integra RS 300m / $1000 / $1000 pay $2300 a year with 20% discount |

$185 per month 10% discount 2 mil liability 300 comprehensive work/school within 15km |

They give you 6 days for pleasure use outside of the work driving per month. How can they track how many days I've used. I guarantee if someone t-boned me in kelowna (not where I live by far) I'd get covered. Which is nice to know, since too many old people live there and I spend a lot of time there. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though and I'm gonna double check with my insurance broad, just to make sure nothing has changed since I last renewed my car. who am I kidding, you're obviously wise beyond your years and are never wrong, ICBC scammed me and I should never go 15kms past work!!!!!! |

1. Basic 2. Optional (liability, comprehensive, collision) The XX% discount/penalty only applies to the Basic portion. With a 25% discount my Basic is about $1200, Optional another $800. If I was a 60yo man with a perfect record, my Optional would be $400, if I was 20yo with a perfect record it would be $2K, as 30yo with a perfect record its $800. Guess what? The Basic stays the same (not considering discounts/penalty percentages). Correct me if I am wrong. |
