pretty much unedited.

The pic isnt as sharp as I'd liked, but improving on that and the shots just happened too fast and didnt get my setting right..

I like the use of tones to bring out character of your subjects (particularly the guy). I do think that a little more light in the back to give a bit more separation of his hair to the background would have been nice.

77civic1200 05-21-2009 06:03 PM

Thanks for the comments =)

I agree about the hair light, I tried a bunch of shots with and without. The old vivitar flashes I use don't have a whole lot of choices for power output. Even on the lowest setting and with a 1 stop ND gel I was getting a little too much light. So I gave up and turned it off. I sometimes prefer the look of just one light anyways, depends on my mood haha.

Next time try adding a white board or cloth in the back to reflect back some of the main light. Should give you the separation you need with out it showing too much.

I know her hand is missing, I don't know if it bothers me
I looked at it too long, now I can't decide

MikesJo 05-28-2009 07:41 PM

What lens?

Meowjin 05-28-2009 08:49 PM

The bokeh is pretty harsh. Which lens did you use?

That being said, I think the sepia colour suits the first one more. Nice portraits.

77civic1200 06-01-2009 09:52 PM

^much better expression of the two, but the light hitting under her eyes isn't doing her any favors. I slight movement of the main light would really soften her under eyes and flatter her more

Mananetwork 06-01-2009 10:40 PM

^ Cool thanks for that Kyle
