Domani 06-13-2008 01:18 PM

the 2nd girl is cute, kelly clarkson-ish ;)

Levitron 06-13-2008 01:59 PM

Last one is perfect.

All you need now is a beauty dish or ring light :D

g/rex 06-13-2008 03:26 PM

thanks. i just got a beauty dish. waiting to use it!

1) great shot, great dof, great color, love everything but the thumb but thats an easy crop fix
2) throw away, the focus is a few inches to far back as you can see by the hair
3) favorite of the bunch, the hair over her eye bugs me a little, but not enough that I don't still love it, lighting looks very nice and soft, care to explain the set-up?

[HuCk DuCk] 06-13-2008 05:13 PM

to me it seems a little too much on the face... kinda blown out

on 06-13-2008 06:21 PM

sooooo is this the new portrait thread? :)

MikesJo 06-13-2008 08:13 PM

Are you shooting through a soft box?

yes, the setup is softbox as mainlight to camera left. and umbrella to the left of the subjects. shot with profoto 600 at 1/4 power.

this is the lighting setup.
also the 2nd pic, i cropped that out of another picture which the other one is more in focus. i guess i just liked the mood in that one.

Denny 06-13-2008 09:55 PM

Good choice going for the more interesting picture than the sharper one. The focus isn't that far off and non-photographers probably won't notice it.

on 06-14-2008 08:53 PM

the last picture u posted up... just wondering...
what is the point of the light on their left? that main light will only light up the girl closest to the light and leave the girl on the right atleast 1 stop down, and of course shadows casted by the girls closer to the light

i think for that group shot u'd be better off with that main light on the right of the camera instead

g/rex 06-14-2008 09:20 PM

i had another light, but it wasn't the same power as the one on their left so i just left it.
i will keep that in mind for my next shoot

on 06-14-2008 09:38 PM

btw ur setup looks pretty cool, is this your garage?

Atlantis 06-14-2008 10:09 PM

Well, here's my first attempt at a portrait ever, and it started out as a pretty crappy self-portrait; hence all the processing. No lighting rig (man, they look pretty though ;)), hell, even my tripod was busted! :( Being poor sucks.
