Wrong Mike Denny! hahaha

I find there is way to much shine on their skin, and they almost glow...maybe its just to over exposed? Im not sure, but to me, i dont like it, it makes it look almost pastel like. Composition is good though

^ I like it!

dspirit79 09-11-2008 09:35 AM

Underexposed . Skin is still grey and no distinct white point.

77civic1200 09-11-2008 04:48 PM

Hmm I see what you mean, don't know why I didn't notice that last night, too sleepy I guess.

I'm leaving the second pic as is, I like it like that, I think it loses any mood if I brighten it up. Does this help the first pic though?

You can achieve the same effect next time Kyle by increasing the power off of the light in the back and having it flagged so it doesn't hit the subject so much.

The fill is up to you to keep. You just need to have a whitepoint in that particular picture.

Keep trying and you'll get it. Good attempt!

I wish I had taken a set up shot to show you just how ghetto the set up was. I was only really playing around trying the smoke shot with my buddy, when she decided she wanted to try a couple headshots (she does extra work in movies) and gave me about 2 mins to shoot before she got bored. I was shooting across a bed from them, one light stand on the bed on the right, the other was stuffed into the doorway from the bathroom. I could barely move, much less get my lights into different positions.

I've demanded a reshoot with her, with a longer time allowance, hopefully soon.

dspirit79 09-11-2008 10:32 PM

No worries Kyle,

I've worked in tough situations too. Learning to be quick and effective is important. I once had an appointment with a business executive that literally had only a couple minutes to shoot. In a 5 minute window of time I put up my lights took a light reading and snapped 8 photographs. Then he was rushed out to a meeting. Happens all the time.

Through practice and repetition like you are doing it will increase your ability to see and perform under stressful situations. I give you props for continually trying!

77civic1200 09-11-2008 11:43 PM

Thanks! I'd try more often if my friends weren't so afraid of me lol

What are you using for a light meter? I hate the guess and check that I am doing, its so hard to tell if its right on the back lcd.

dspirit79 09-12-2008 08:58 AM

I use a Minolta VI Lightmeter
