If the peeps who quoted the photos please remove the photo link that would be great.

Thanks.

Removed so no one gets hurt. ;)

Here's a Family Portrait!
Tight room, everyones practically against the wall, hard to get any shots without going < 50mm. I'd love to re-shoot this with more room!

^ what's with the funky lighting? could things be moved around (temporary) like that lamp on the right?

MikesJo 07-11-2008 01:07 AM

The whole family seems to have a good sense of style. Good looking as well.

Dude on the right, yes. Dude on the left is wearing a suit jacket that's a little too large for his shoulders and the jacket sleeves are cut too long. Show a little cuff, buddy! Jacket length is too long overall by a little. Looks like a kid wearing his dad's suit to prom.

IMO, when you're going with a portrait like this, everything needs to be either perfect or everything needs to be a little skewed and off. If one brother's fit is perfect, then the other has to as well...or vice versa. If dad's tie is lopsided...then mom should have something wrong with her outfit as well.

Just my opinion...I love the concept but I think the poses need a little work and the lighting is strange. Since the pretty girl in the picture is right in the middle, she needs to...go bigger with the pose.

Great idea, though, Tom. Love the concept, seriously.

What's a good lens to use for shots like these? Any suggestions

Like portraits in general?

85mm F1.2 if you're looking at Canon :D

Ronin 07-11-2008 07:55 AM

A lot of used 1.2L at Map Camera for about $1300. I'm so tempted. Brand new 85 1.8's are $430, which is way higher than back home.

The lightings a bit weird because they are practically up against the wall. I was trying mixed lighting because I wanted a bit of that green oldish spill around, but not on the back wall, oh well.

Levitron 07-11-2008 10:12 AM

Too bad there's glare on her glasses.

There are places on REVscene for your stupidity. This isn't one of them.

Attention to details. I didn't know those points :).

I think it's a very nice picture. The green spill works and it gives it a slight lomography color effect which is very suitable for that picture. It's a little awkward how the mom isn't holding anything and sitting so normally but it adds contrast to the other family members and makes people look at the picture longer.
