No, but I know the guy who did, I met him at AE. Believe he had the 70-200 too.

Photoflex Litedome Q39 XS softbox kit
http://www.photoflex.com/Photoflex_P...t_1/index.html

Basically a 12x16x9 softbox which comes with a speed ring which with their adapter, allows you to use a speed light.

Mike, nice shoot! I dont like the ambient light one though, his eye sockets are too dark.

What lens did you use for this? Great dof! :)

Senna4ever 07-14-2009 09:18 PM

How did you get the JCI gig? Were you the one that took my spot after I told them I wasn't doing it this time?

IMASA 07-14-2009 09:38 PM

I know 2 photogs that have been doing a few BYOB's, Ray and Budi. Ray told me to go and help him move and setup his lights, but I managed to snap a few shots.
Is it hard to get invited to BYOB? I talked to one photog and she said she just E-mailed JCI asking to volunteer to get some experience and they told her to show up at the BYOB.

I was using my friend's Nikkor 17-55 F2.8. I was quite impressed with its sharpness, despite all the smack you read about it online, I find it sharper than my 30 1.4 sigma and 50mm 1.8
I can only imagine how great the Nikkor 24-70 F2.8 is.

MikesJo 07-14-2009 10:02 PM

What is JCI BYOB?!

Thanks ColinK. Those were all with a 70-200 2.8 non-is shot at F4.

I got in because I was in the professional photography program at Focal Point, and all students were invited to participate. I've only done one so far, but would like to do another one.

The 17-55 f2.8 is pretty much a DX version of the 24-70 f2.8, but you get less DoF with the 24-70 on a FX camera though due to the larger circles of confusion.

MikesJo 07-14-2009 10:10 PM

Ok figured it out. cool stuff

John Casablanca Institute Build Your Own Book. It's mostly an invitation only thing where photographers are invited to do a photoshoot with JCI students. The images are used by the photographer and JCI students for their ports. JCI has a modelling, MUA, fashion stylist, & hairstylist programs, but no photography program so they send out an invite to Focal Point full-time students. The photographer can use whatever gear he/she has. I'm taking a Profoto 7 foot umbrella next time. :p
