Just watched sports on Global with Squire Barnes. Hilarious story on how as soon as Sundin signs, the Canucks start to look like the Leafs. He called it a Leaf's virus. Even before he plays, the Canucks start to slide.

What a fragile team. Fine captain Luongo has been. LOL. Oh well, when you hit rock bottom there's only one way to go and that's up.

I think after the break, the Canucks will turn it around for sure. I also think San Jose will be in for a bit of a surprise.

The team was doing fine without Sundin or Luongo. Then the news of the signing and the news that Luongo's coming back. Mass confusion. Anyway, shit happens. All we can do is watch the games and hope it all works itself out.

AND its funny you say its easy to just point fingers when things go bad..cuz thats EXACTLY what AV is doing right now

pointing fingers at his top players...

The constant juggling, maybe, but the players don't like AV's system? Did he change the system in the last month or two?

AV is pointing fingers? That guy is no Keenan. He's pretty careful not to freak on people. Now making Welwood his bitch (healthy scratch) could be part of something else. Bowness was on Team 1040 and he was talking about how it is important to understand the egos of today's players. That some can be pushed, while others can go the other way and so on. He made a lot of sense. The owner, GM, and coaches believe in the team and they are going to work through all of this. Fans are fans. They whine and bitch and boo...... and call for the coach's head. It's human nature to react like that.

MG1 01-16-2009 06:15 PM

I think all that is needed is for a player to step up and take a leadership role. I personally don't think Luongo's that kind of person......... but that's just me. Maybe nobody wants to take the bull by the horn - afraid to upset the apple cart.

Bonjour43MA 01-16-2009 06:52 PM

time for a new coach.

Didn't we tie another team record this year? A game where we had something like 12 shots on goal.

fobulaus 01-16-2009 08:39 PM

Anyone else afraid to check the conference stats?

Harvey Specter 01-16-2009 08:44 PM

Yup, it was 10 shots vs the Caps in Oct.

And the stats look alright tonight because the Ducks lost.

I don't think getting rid of them is the answer. It's just the timing was all wrong. Sundin taking so long to decide did not help matters.

I honestly never understood why people were so hyped up about Sundin coming here. He's no spring chicken and fitting into the team was also an issue. All in all, a huge gamble. Only time will tell, I guess.

I put my faith in guys like Kesler and Burrows. Young, up and coming, and full of potential. Raymond, Hansen, etc. It's always fun to watch those guys.

Maybe if Nickelback sang the anthems at GM Place, it may inspire Demitra to light it up. LOL.

In fact, Gillis alluded to just that when he was on 1040 with BMac & Rintoul this morning... and Gallagher said outright, with Lu out, the team had fallen back to their former, more defensive style... the problem with that being, none of them are used to it, and some of the newcomers like Demitra are completely thrown off by it. That's why you see so much confusion, broken plays, and bench minors - they tried to compensate for the loss of their star goaltender by making a hard shift to a different playing style, and it backfired. And now last night, they tried (at least partially) going back to their more offense-oriented play, which led to even more confusion.

I'd hope the All Star break gives everyone a chance to get their shit together...

MG1 01-16-2009 09:56 PM

I can't wait till Sunday's game. I wanna see the Canucks come out hitting and laying the boots to the Blue Jackets. I'm hoping our boys will run the opposing team out of town. 6 - 0 shutout for Luongo. End this bullshit now!! Do whatever it takes to win. Take hard shots from the blueline and when their players start to block the shots, aim for their fucking head. Take a few of the players out of the game. Nevermind staying out of the penalty box. If you send a few to the hospital, it'd be totally worth it. Oh, and run the fucking goalie each time. Make them scared to touch the puck. If you can't beat them by scoring more goals, at least beat the shit out of them. Haha.

Harvey Specter 01-16-2009 10:06 PM

Nash is injuried so I guess that's some good news for the Canucks heading into Sunday.

Lol, is that the spin Gillis is putting on it?!?!?! There's definitely a lot of confusion and I've noticed that their passes definitely aren't sharp either!

Never made a difference when it comes to Canucks. 4th liners become all-stars, and so do backup goaltenders when they play against the Canucks.

Harvey Specter 01-17-2009 04:59 AM

So last Jan we had 4 wins and 1 OTL and so far this month we've had 2 wins and 2 OTL's with 2 games remaining.

No, he didn't put any "spin". As I said, he merely alluded to the fact that they'd changed their style of play recently. The rest was Gallagher's observations.

The Edmonton Oilers traded goaltender Mathieu Garon to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday in exchange for netminder Dany Sabourin, forward Ryan Stone and a fourth-round pick in the 2011 NHL entry draft.

Games are won on the ice. That's where you have to compete. That's where your leadership needs to be first.

Whoa, let's calm down and not shoot ourselves in the foot. Crash the net harder, sure. But we don't need to give teams an excuse to run Luongo.

I know. It's just an excuse for me to rant on about the team performing so poorly.
