Because they're not "cool" like the Canucks... there's no panache, you can't go with the "see and be seen" crowd.

i can get into the giants, but not the canucks.

PS: Damn you're almost at 15,000 posts shiiiiiet

I'm actually having a good feeling about tomorrow. Yes its the Sharks but one thing that has been consistent on this team is our checking line of Kesler & Burrows who were already a suprisingly offensive threat on their own, progressed to an even more dangerous tandem with the addition of Bernier.

Sundin is also starting to come around and notching goals. And we just scored 5 on Mason who is:
1st in the league for GAA
1st in the league in Shut Outs
2nd in the league for SV %.

Now, if our D can just shut down Marleau and Co. and Luongo gets back to full form, I'm actually quite optimistic this time round.

411ken 01-19-2009 01:45 PM

I hope Raymond sits out again tomorrow. =)

Gumby 01-19-2009 02:14 PM

Maybe we should stick Sundin in Thornton's face all night tomorrow!

Just heard this on Hardcore Hockey Talk, Steve Kouleas just said he knows for a fact the canucks are going after a big time eastern conference winger and its not Ilya Kovalchuk. He is pretty credible to me, he speaks to all NHL gm's quite often and Strachan is on the show with him occasionaly.
Interesting.

Let the crazy rumours begin.

Marcus Naslund? :p

Maybe it's Simon Gagne? Or somebody for the Isles, Okposo would be amazing but it'll probably be someone like Guerin. Pominville from Buffalo? St. Louis can still contribute but will he be able to adapt to the more physical west?

Grandmaster TSE 01-19-2009 03:22 PM

i think st louis can do well in the physical west
damn, he has only missed 2-3 games since 2003

noots 01-19-2009 03:48 PM

Another question is how well can St. Louis play under AV's system. St Louis is just like Naslund in the sense that he's best used off the rush and that's just not AV's style of coaching. No question he can still be effective if he were to play with players that could open the ice for him (ie Sedins or Sundin) but will he be able to consistently put up points playing that style?

Also he has a whopping contract worth 5-6 million for 2 more years. It'll make it harder for Gillis to sign players since it seems the cap won't be increasing like years past and it'll be harder to resign players such as the Sedins, Ohlund or Luongo.

St. Louis at 5-6 mill looks like a freaking bargain compared to 4 mill for Demitra

well AV's system has changed since last year which is why he kept his job. If we get a big ticket player like St Louis then that would be awesome cause this year is the year canucks have to make some noise. Sedins wont be playing for cheap no more and guys like Burrows and Kelser will command alil more money. It would be a big hit to us if we lose the sedins for nothing but wat else can we do. We can get a rental player thats a UFA next season and keep the sedins, or we can get a player that still has years left on his contract so it doesnt feel like were losing from the trade cause rental players are pretty costly, but we will lose the sedins.....

InvisibleSoul 01-19-2009 04:48 PM

San Jose just recalled Claude Lemieux... he might play against the Canucks. :lol

Harvey Specter 01-19-2009 05:55 PM

Can we use Sanford as trade bait?

noots 01-19-2009 06:29 PM

I think this year will HAVE to be the year we make some noise since we're spending all that money on Sundin. I still don't have faith on AV's system but that's just me. The system works wonders when everybody's keys in and whoever's in net is playing sensational. During rough patches like these it becomes a bit hard and frustrating to watch the team piss away points.

Don't get me wrong, as much as i may have my doubts, one of the things the team needs is a top winger so I'm all for getting St. Louis as long as the price doesn't cost us too much for the future and it doesn't tie up too much salary. For players on the team ATM, we have:

Forwards: Demitra, Kesler, Johnson, Raymond, Hordichuk
Defencemen: Bieksa, Salo, Mitchell, Edler
Goalie: Luongo

signed for next season. And only 1, maybe 2 of them is a legit top 6 forward when healthy. That's approx 29.6 mill tied up in 10 players with key free agents being: Ohlund, Daniel, Henrik, Sundin, Bernier, Wellwood, Burrows, Hansen, O'Brien, and Labarbera/Sanford.

As for St Louis, the TB GM seems like an easy target so we may end up getting St Louis for cheap. ;)

For next season, a lot depends on our rookies and if they can make the team. Also how much will the Sedins ask for/how much it would cost us to replace 150 points. It would be nice to have cap space at the beginning of the season instead of being at the cap.

And DAMMIT Demitra is injured AGAIN. Pulled his groin. Out until after the break.

Probably only a late draft pick like Labarbera or used in a package, especially to a team with goalie/backup issues.

Only if the goalie situations for teams out there change. Sanford cleared waivers to be sent to the minors so obviously no one wanted him at the time.

I believe Salo's back for tomorrows game..Canuck's been missing his tape to tape passes lately.

HAHA. the canucks should take this as an insult to them. The Sharks are taking them lightly therefore they call up a 40 something year old guy who hasn't played a single game in 5 years... are they resting Thornton for this game as well?...

hope we get into a fast start.

Edit - oh and I am glad to see Mr. Salo back! We sure missed him whether you like him or not.

Canucks are known as the "get well card (team)"
Watch Lemieux get a hat-trick or something.
