I never understood this. It's not like he gave the impression that he will be refusing to sign with Vancouver. The best it ever got was that his options were open, whether it be Vancouver or else where.

Other than that, it does raise some questions.

A few years ago, we had an organization in which our key roster players were willingly taking hometown discounts just to maintain playing for Vancouver (Naslund, Salo, Ohlund,). Now you have players that don't care for much either way if they were to keep playing for Vancouver or not.

(Jovo too I believe preferred to stay in Van)

Anyways, kinda makes you wonder about things...

Harvey Specter 02-27-2009 01:50 PM

We should rent out Jovo's services, lol.

Thats not a bad idea if you think about it. Jovo brings intensity, willing to drop the gloves and can get involved in the rush.

That was not the point...sure he would love to stay in vancouver but what if the team wants to head into a different direction. Wouldn't you want to atleast get something in return rather than him just signing anywhere cuz we no longer have the intention of resigning him...

Another question is what if a tempting offer was sent for Ohlund but he refuses to waive his NTC (just an example...JBO for Ohlund). Would you boo/hate ohlund?

68style 02-27-2009 02:44 PM

I think Ohlund's not coming back no matter what because if Gillis intends on re-signin the Sedins and they even get close to their 6.5 asking price... well... do the math, 3 players (Sedins and Luongo) will be eating up HALF the $40 million salary cap next year. Throw Demitra and a few others in that are at the 3-4 million mark and suddenly you've used 75% of your salary cap on 6 players and you need to fill out another 18 roster spots with 25% of the salary cap.

Although the down-side is that Bieksa's trade value does not equal to Ohlund's so the return might not yield the same impact.

I'd take the younger Bieksa any day of the week. Ohlund over the last few years has gotten slower, and produced less and less points. He's not even our top shutdown defense men anymore. The last few years he was paired against top guys like Iginla but thats Willy Mitchell's job now. I wouldn't resign him unless its for the same price, 3.5 mill.

Does anyone know which sports network will have the latest breaking trades come the trade deadline? TSN, Sportsnet or The Score???

I like Ohlund too.... but he's gone after this season, so it's better to keep Bieksa. Problem is, Ohlund is like our own little Mats Sundin... he has a NTC and he may not waive it, so we could just end up losing him for nothing much like Toronto with Sundin.

IMO, it should be Ohlund who should bring up waiving the NTC. Agents purposely ask for NTC in contracts all the time. It's the players rights to have that in their contract.

HAH, I still have my Jovo jersey. I'd SO wear it out!

As long as Ohlund does his job till the end, I wouldn't boo/hate him, whether he leaves at the deadline or in the summer.

Depends, some will have trades earlier before other networks, but I'd put my money on TSN having them faster.

hi5-ive 02-27-2009 04:11 PM

Yup TSN FTW, Sportsnet is a joke on trade deadline day

No, if he leaves next year because we don't have enough cap space to resign him

Yes, if we try to resign him but he chooses to go elsewhere

Tim Budong 02-27-2009 04:44 PM

SOB has more than what Vannenen brings
SOB can somewhat move the puck a bit
Vannenen is a bigger frame tho for that purpose
and SOB right now looks pretty good with edler/Beiksa

DanHibiki 02-27-2009 04:45 PM
