why mess up with the chemistry of the team? maybe bring in a veteran character guy who's been to the playoffs for raymond, pyatt or wellwood. Other than that, we're fine. Our big splash was landing Sundin.

hi5-ive 02-25-2009 10:06 PM

hmm i dont mind picking up jay bouwmeester , but pretty sure florida wants 1st pick.

trip 02-25-2009 10:26 PM

i doubt the canucks will be doing anything major come trade dead line. i would like to have bouwmeester here though

Hondaracer 02-25-2009 10:36 PM

i think pronger is the better pickup for us both in what we need and what we would have to give up

I'd prefer to have Pronger as well just because a defenseman would have to go back the other way with Bieksa being the likely candidate. Ohlund is pretty much all but gone after this season and it sucks because he's been my favourite player besides Linden over all these years. A guy like Pronger would be able to make up for the toughness and scoring left by those 2 guys.

The thing with Pronger is that he has 1 year left @ ~6 mill. He could potentially walk away after next season. I guess you could say the same with JBo but I'd have to imagine that the Canucks would have to have some sort of guarentee that he'd re-sign before Gillis even thinks about making the trade.

what about Mark Streit

Alot for probably one of the elite puck moving offensive Dmen in the league?

alot of teams have either, solidfied their scoring or has found the touch, where as defencemen are always rare..especially the elite!

Kaberle is far from elite. He doesn't even make the top 10 in the league. But Philly offered Jeff Carter and 1st Rounder last year for him but he didn't waive his no trade clause. Imagine if the leafs got Jeff Carter.

I don't think that's a fair assessment. This year hasn't been his best, but considering the Leafs totally suck, it could be excusable.

He's currently 26th in D-man scoring, but he also missed a bunch of games this year due to injury.

Going by points per game, he's currently ranked 15th this year.

Last year, he had the 9th most points by a D-man. The year before that, he was also 9th. And the year before that, he was FIFTH.

So he definitely is among the top 10 for offensive defensemen.

Grabner has been called up to replace Demitra, he's expected to play Friday against Tampa.

GRABNER GETS THE CALL

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that right wing Michael Grabner has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Grabner, 21, has appeared in 47 games with Manitoba this season, posting 33 points (21-12-33). He ranks tied for first on the team in goals scored (21) and sixth on the team in points (33). The Moose are currently in first place in the AHL.

The Villach, Austria native was also asked to serve on Austria in the Olympic Qualifying tournament, played from February 5-8, 2009. Grabner appeared in three games where he led his team in scoring with five goals.

The 6’1”, 177 lbs. forward was originally drafted by Vancouver in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Forward Darcy Hordichuk will rejoin the team at practice today. Hordichuk returned home during the team’s cross-country road trip to be with his wife for the birth of their first child, a son.

Jannik Hansen and Pavol Demitra both sustained fractured fingers on the road trip. Hansen was injured during the February 19th game in Ottawa and is expected to be out 3-4 weeks. Demitra suffered the fracture in Tuesday’s game against Montreal. He is being evaluated by doctors in Vancouver.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have cleared up a bit of their log jam along the blue line as they have sent Ryan Whitney to the Anaheim Ducks for Chris Kunitz and Eric Tangradi.

The 26-year old Whitney was a vital piece of the Penguins' Stanley Cup run last year; however foot surgery caused him to miss the first 31 games of the season.

The Boston-native is one of the better puck moving defencemen in the league and should be a big boost to the Ducks power play. He became deemed surplus goods when fellow defenceman and Penguins' primary powerplay quarterback Sergei Gonchar returned a shoulder injury.

Whitney is in the second year of a six-year contract he signed with the Penguins last season. He was chosen fifth overall by the Penguins in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

68style 02-26-2009 08:21 AM

Wow good deal for Anaheim... I mean Whitney isn't exactly stellar defensively, but I think he's capable of being a point-a-game D-man. We couldn't jump on this why? I'm sure we could have done better than Kunitz and a guy who hasn't played in the NHL yet... although he looks to be a half decent prospect from his AHL stats and size.

7seven 02-26-2009 08:32 AM

Gerber placed on recall waivers today.

Wrong.

Tangradi is a good prospect. He is the same size as Malone and plays the samy style. A tough power forward with offensive skills. Give him a year or two and you'll see him playing the wing with Sid. Tangradi >>> Any Canucks forward prospect right now. Anaheim's prospect pool just got even thinner with this trade.

cspec 02-26-2009 10:02 AM

I'm pretty excited to see what Grabner can do in the NHL.

Hence why I said "although he looks to be a half decent prospect from his AHL stats and size."

I'll believe it when I see it though, lots of guys rack up points like crazy in the AHL and can't do crap in the NHL.............

True.

He's just got more potential to be better than any Canucks forward prospect we have right now.

werd prime example is Krog. Wasn't he the points leader last year? Yet he can't even crack a NHL lineup
