want to know why too. first time going this year. hoping to check out some travelling artist.

Nicotine 04-24-2014 07:14 PM

its less about tattoos now and more a tattoo merchandise show almost. lots of clothing, random licence plate store to have the "biker feel" i guess and some choppers.
but there are great artists regardless dont get me wrong i went to see james tex's stuff while he was here last year. unreal for sure.

Hondaracer 04-24-2014 08:59 PM

is there usually much art to buy?

Hondaracer 04-26-2014 06:27 PM

went to the convention today, it was pretty cool! $20 is pretty steep though for entry

also, i guess if the people getting tattooed by local artists are there as part of the contest for best peice etc. thats one thing, but wtf is the appeal of being tattooed by a local artist if your just getting a run of the mill peice? lol

like even some of the peices i watched get done, i was thinking, you wouldnt prefer that be done in some sort of private setting? lol i understand non-local artists but anyone local why would you do it?

i forgot the guys name but one guy was getting "Master Mold" and some sentinals from Xmen done on his leg, and Wow.. it was amazing the detail in the shading etc.

As well, this Luka Lajoie from quebec, absolutely amazing portraits and realism

guurl 04-26-2014 11:08 PM

i bought some art! a buddha from red9ine and a body suit from horitsuki (dust wu)of toronto.
i want to get all kinds of japanese body suits on my wall!

rob noseworthy is really good too. from nanaimo bc?? didnt think there would be asian styled tattooers on the island lol

Fafine 04-26-2014 11:58 PM

he has a shop there too - i overheard him saying that to someone lol

Is it common practice for artists to email you rather then providing you a contact number?
I've been in contact with Ormiston but just seems a bit difficult to set anything up as he usually takes a few days to respond back to each email.

I did everything via email with him. He's a very reliable guy and likely you will be setting up appointments for months from now, so a few days for an email shouldn't cause many problems. One thing I have to mention about him, although his hourly rate is a bit higher, he is so fast, and doesn't fuck around once the clock starts. His professionalism was very impressive.

Thanks Westopher.
Did you go in for a consultation or do a skype consultation? He gave me both options but I dont want to do skype consultation if I still have to go in for a regular consultation. He gave me a really early appt for drop in, so was trying to weigh the pros and cons between the two.

I went in. I always feel like I'm burdening someone when I'm on the phone or skype or whatever haha. Just a weird personal thing I have though. Its a good excuse for a day up in whistler anyways. I don't imagine you'd have to go in for a second consult if you did the skype thing though.

I've taken percocets. Nothing beats a good meal, lots of water and a good nights sleep though.

IMO being able to meditate at even a mediocre level helps as you are in control of your breathing and in turn relaxes your mind/body

i read a book in 2 of my 3 sessions much to the surprise of my artist

whatitdew 05-06-2014 04:34 PM

The other artist is James Tex. he is,pretty much the man. Also his son kicks ass too. I was hoping to get a piece from him this year at the convention. I couldn't in the end cuz I diagnosed with with cancer 2 months ago and am going through some heavy chemotherapy right now. I bought one of his prints instead and getting it framed.

Post up some pics of the sleeve if you can. Anthony had a sketch of a kapala for the taking at the show I wanted so bad. I thought he was James younger brother at first lol.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Hondaracer 05-07-2014 09:12 AM
