they changed some stuff and left out some things, but overall it stayed pretty damn close to the graphic novel which was great

I wish they had that monster from the comic book in the end instead of the new ending.. but I guess this way it sort of makes more sense.. also the way they dealt with Rorschach at the end of the movie made it confusing for those people who didn't read the book. A bunch of my friends had no idea why what happened to him had to happen.

it does make more sense in movie terms

they should have added more scenes about rorschach
it would have been great if they put the mind fucking he does in the graphic novel into the movie, would have shown more of his personality which would add more to the story

Frankly I think by just watching the movie alone ppl should know why what happen had to happen.

Zyzz 03-17-2009 01:12 AM

im saying this in the grand scheme of things

the watchmen wanted peace, the 2 countries wanted peace, and all the citizens wanted peace

this isnt a fairy tale where winning comes with no sacrifice.... sometimes complicated things can also be looked at very simply, which is one of the first steps in solving a problem. there is no fucking point in over analyzing that

there is no way the watchmen could achieve this without Ozymandias

I haven't read the comic but the way the scenes played out were similar to the way it would in a comic book. It was kind of choppy and there were a lot of flashbacks. I do think that most people won't really understand or be able to appreciate it without having read the comic. There were some aspects of the characters' background stories that were really dragged out and probably unnecessary. I also think they could have gotten a different actress for the role of Laurie. Malin Akerman is BAD. I didn't believe her in that role at all - absolutely not depth whatsoever. Oy.

I think the director wanted to screen Akerman because well, he wanted to show the part in the Archie. It was in the graphic novel and he thought it was necessary. Akerman because she isn't afraid to show her tits. She did it in Harold and Kumar. Imo, there aren't many actresses who show their tits that are good.

I watches the Watchmen yesterday afternoon. Finally, no projector failure, no problems. :) I really, really enjoyed the movie, but this is coming from someone who has read the graphic novel and really enjoyed the little intricacies and nuances of it. That being said, it's not a very accessible movie; most people won't get it or appreciate it. :(

And I want my ending back!!! :(:(:( It's too watered down now, too much stuff cut out. :(

BoneThug 03-22-2009 06:00 PM

it was already 3 hours. they had to cut a lot out

Wow...really? I liked the movie ending better.

No, the original ending had much more impact IMHO, because it was so absurd. But yeah, it would be so wtf on the screen ahahah

The movie did a horrible job of explaining anything. It fails as a movie because the only people that would get it are the people that read the graphic novel and took the time to understand and dig into it.

Saw this in Imax yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never read the comic and was still able to understand everything. Finally, a DC comic based movie that doesn't hold back on the sex and gore. Made everything a lot more realistic and gave it a raw feel to it.
