My Hankook icebear W604's (build date 4403) were pretty good in the snow. I drove out from SFU to Ditchmond for some Aberdeen food court, then went up Oak st. and cut across to 41st. back home. Drove through some side streets. Up hills, down hills. Heavy thick snow, wet slimy slush. Never missed a beat. Get on the gas a bit and the back end steps out a tad. And I didn't need to use second gear to start. Regular 1st gear slip clutch and the tires would grab.

RWD + snow tires = loads of fun.

Nokian NRG2 SUV on front wheel drive 2008 Odyssey runs well in the snow. No issue whatsoever, even in the heavy slushy snow.

I'm wondering where you guys bought your winter tires?

I'm looking at Can. Tire,

I don't see them having Bridgestone Blizzack's though.

anyone bought the Rotalla from TT?

Liquid_o2 12-22-2008 09:22 AM

My street has almost 2 feet of unplowed snow on it. Took 3 attempts in my Nokians to get back into my garage. It is so light and powdery that grip on hills sucks. I'm working from home today.

I'm curious about the TBC Cooper Arctic Claw tires that I was about to get before I found a set of Yokohama Ice Guards. Anyone have experience with the TBCs? I've never even heard of them, the shop said they're an American brand.

icemiko 12-22-2008 06:23 PM

anyone knows if any places still has 215/17/50 snow tires that's going to be good in the snow, ice and slush? lol..

Death2Theft 12-22-2008 07:10 PM

Man screw snowtires and winter beaters... how hard would it be to legalize a snowmobile? Then again I guess it wouldn't matter not like a cop could chase me on one.

Raid3n 12-23-2008 09:58 AM

Caketech: only the first season of a winter tire is REALLY good i believe, after that they decline pretty fast. think of it as reverse heat cycling haha.

I have Yokohama Geolandar i/t GO72 They're sick ass.

2nd Season with these for me, I was driving around on them on some pretty hot days in the summer, and they still look brand new.

narfy 12-23-2008 12:30 PM

i'm really interested in trying the michelin XI2... i've read and heard nothing but good things...

7words 12-23-2008 01:53 PM

i've seen cars that only have all seasons with tire chains.
i've always thought they r illegal to use here sine it doesnt snow much.
would u recommend to use tire chains on a lowered car?

Presto 12-23-2008 01:59 PM

Chains are only good for short trips, or if you live in a snowy climate. When you're not driving on a fluffy layer of snow, then the ride gets really rough.

Depending on how low the car is, you may be able to strap in some chains or cables, but then you have to worry about getting hung up in deep snow.

Gordo.Blue 12-23-2008 05:28 PM

so I'm driving a matrix '06,

my dad (we share the car) recently got these new preformance all season tires. They have absolutely zero traction on snow.

I'm planning on getting 2 snow tires for the forward wheels. Perhaps Michelin X-Ice.

What do you think? Anybody drive a matrix?

apharmdb 12-23-2008 05:33 PM

Dunlop Graspics. Easy to deal with and decent grip through deeper snow and even icy conditions. Doesn't have a stud option like my old Hankooks, but then again I never ran them with studs.

tonyvu 12-23-2008 05:38 PM

I got a set of Michelin X-ice on mine, Damn these babys work wonders. Coming down a pretty big hill, braked, and my car almost didn't even slide.

it's not recommended to buy only 2 snows tires. makes your car a bit unpredictable if you make the rear end break traction. but I guess having at least 2 snow tires is better than nothing.

icemiko 12-23-2008 09:43 PM

I just got some Nokian WRG2. Anyone else using these, what do you think about them?
