How do you like the keyboard on your S10? I've been considering one but I can't seem to find one around town that I can play around with.

I've looked at the Dell Mini9 and the Acer Aspire, but both are 8.9" screen size and the keys are WAY too small for my fingers. I can't type on those things accurately and was wondering how much better the S10 was.

Do any available Netbooks support 3G?

+Kardboard+ 03-17-2009 04:59 PM

Many do, or are fairly easy to hack. The only thing is, you'd have to have another SIM for that... IMHO tethering with a phone that has a data plan is more economical? But to each their own.

The HP Mini has a SIM slot already... but no modem unless you get one installed from the factory or hack it. :p

The keyboard is pretty small and will take some getting used to. And the right shift annoys but it's the same on most netbooks.

The Dell Mini 10 looks like it has a decent keyboard?

!MiKrofT 03-18-2009 12:44 AM

Possible to get one from here in Canada.
I'm going back to HK this May, should I get it there?

Iceman_2K 03-25-2009 11:29 AM

after many trips to HK, i've come to the conclusion that if you can, do it, otherwise you will regret it and end up paying more for something that you coulda got cheaper there and have free stuff thrown in.

bobola 03-25-2009 10:04 PM

Any thing about the warranty if I buy from HK?

I heard most people are having bad experiences with the multi-touch trackpad on the mini 10.
The 720p screen and HDMI out makes it very interesting, but the permanent ram is quite the deal breaker.

How long does the battery on your S10 last in OS X?

!MiKrofT 03-26-2009 09:10 AM

Hmm I've never actually run down the battery in OSX yet but I'm guessing about 3hours with the 3cel. The battery life in OSX is supposed to be better than in Windows. Probably gonna get the 6cel battery soon too.

I've played around with the trackpad on the Dell Mini 10... it's hard to use because you don't actually get 'buttons' to press... it's annoying

But the design is really nice and it has HDMI output. I'm really contemplating it right now, the only downer is that it only has a 3 cell...

Does it look like that the 1000HE is the clear-cut winner? I must say that the 1002HA is really nice though

ienhz 04-25-2009 09:31 PM

Mini 10 was so close to perfect... but the stupid ass RAM is soldered on and limited to 1GB max.

the Mini 2140 is great... i got mine from Staples along with some coupons to bring the price down by like $60 ... has a 6cell, decent hard drive, 2GB of ram, comes with both Vista and XP recovery cds as well a business class aluminum chassis so it's heavy duty netbook.

!MiKrofT 04-27-2009 07:15 AM

I'm currently using the 1000HE. It's great. 2140 I hate the battery buldge of the 6 cell and the lower res standard screen. Otherwise that probably would have been my next choice.

+Kardboard+ 04-27-2009 07:25 AM

The 2140 hi-res is shipping now, I think.

...just not in Canada. :D

inzomniak 04-27-2009 08:40 AM

That's what I'm deciding between. The 2140 and the 1000HE.

How's the screen on the 1000HE though? I must say that the 2140 looks so much better than the 1000HE

!MiKrofT 04-27-2009 08:52 AM

The screen? It's great from what I can tell. It's also a matte screen so there's no glare. I had the 2133 before. It was nice.. Just couldn't stand the battery or the cpu. It's also heavier since it's metal housing.

ecsw 04-27-2009 10:49 AM

I got 4 Aspire one 8.9" for friends/families.

2 of the first batch (3 cell, Linux but has XP installed, 120GB HD) die after 8 months or so around the same time. Send it to contracted service center in Burnaby. They replace both motherboard under warranty.

1 of them has battery problem. it also happened to one of the another same batch I bought where the connectors in the battery slot got banded and can't take a charge until you put it back in place.

The one I am using (6 cell XP Home) didn't give me any problem so far (keep my finger crossed).

If I am to buy another one, it will be either 1000HE or VAIO P. I know VAIO P is un-reasonably expensive, but I can take my eye off the nice design. :) I used to have a VAIO UX. :)
